$7Box the compass “run the easting down” (city boot)The music is, for the most part, post-punk rock & roll that hovers somewhere between emo and hardcore, both in terms of its sound and its lyrics, which generally address issues of inarticulate despair ("Signed Forever Yours"), articulate despair ("Three Weeks In"), failed relationships ("Hollow"), and vague encouragement ("Perennial").

Twenty songs written and recorded between 1995-1997 on a reel-to-reel four track by the young Conor Oberst (former singer/guitarist for Commander Venus). During the hardcore years of the late eighties, Chain of Strength showcased its straight power with this album. They did several passes through the states and did shows with bands like Gorilla Biscuits, Sick of it All, Youth of Today, Bold, Soulside, Social Distortion, and the Cro Mags. This amazing release also includes the 7" release "True Till Death" from Revelation and the self released 7" "What Holds Us Apart" plus an unreleased track. Chain of Strength brings you hardcore straight edge in the purest form. Most of you already know, others are still learning.

$18CONVERGEAxe To FallWhiteDeathwishHardcoreConverge have learned from Black Flag's mistakes. They work as a team and have taken DIY to new levels. Singer Jacob Bannon runs the Deathwish, Inc. label and does artwork for Converge and other bands. Guitarist Kurt Ballou runs a recording studio and has become this generation's Steve Albini. Bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller have made waves with other bands like Doomriders and Cave In. Together, they whip up a catharsis matched by few. They play hard and wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Crime In Stereo’s movement towards catchier tracks, complicated arrangements and widespread appeal should land them much success. So what if it wasn’t what people were expecting. Crime In Stereo explored new ground and are ready to share their treasures with the world

$14ELLIOTTFalse Cathedrals (180 gram)LP Elliott's debut full-length, "U.S. Songs," was released in June of 1998 to critical acclaim while winning the hearts of the independent music world. After a year and a half of touring and songwriting, the band found themselves in Los Angeles recording "False Cathedrals" with accomplished producer/engineer Toby Miller (Wallflowers, Korn, Fiona Apple). Far surpassing and all but abandoning their post-hardcore roots, Elliott created a sophisticated and elegant rock album of epic proportions. Now available again on 180 gram vinyl and limited to 500 copies.

$6END OF THE LINE - 12"End of the Line was an amazing hardcore band from San Diego. Three members were in Heroin, one member was in Antioch Arrow, and one member was in John Henry West. Their sound was very San Diego and could be described as a much more aggressive version of Heroin.

$5Former Members of Alfonsin / Project Hate (Phyte) Gosh, that band Alfonsin. Amazing! Eh? No, don't buy this record because you once heard a band called Alfonsin. There are no former members of any such band here. Instead, this is a bunch of kids playing postive, straight edge, wait for it... emo-core! Way! That's a new one. Screw that emo-core word by the way, no-one knows how to use it right. I've seen it crop up in describing bands as divergent as Far and the Get Up Kids. Wrong. Use emo-core in it's correct sense, i.e. a band with large elements of both emo and hardcore. But are not predominantly one or the other of those. And not pop music. Pop music is not emo-core. Check it!

$5Glasses And Ashes Glass And Ashes No IdeaLoud and hard. Shouty, hoarse vocals over fast speedy hardcore, Choatic and noisey. Just what I like. Emo ish but mostly raging hardcore in the Dagnasty (Heavier) vein, sometimes vocally it reminds me of Poison Idea and rocks just as hard. I know this is going to get better everytime I listen to it. The lyrics range from pretty dark subjects to personal stuff, reflecting the music. For fans of Planes Mistaken For Stars.

Having written songs together since they were 14 years old, the Saugus, MA natives are trying to bring an earnest approach to the electronic scene, putting as much emphasis on songwriting as programming. With Bobby's intricate structures of piano, keyboards and programming, Chris's layers of upbeat vocals and the pair's heartfelt lyrics, Hailey It Happens is trying to bring emotion and sincerity into electronic pop, while still giving you something to dance to.
