It wicks fantastic if rolled correctly, so make sure to roll it as tight as you can throughout the wick creation. If it's too loose, it will make the draw tighter (which some may like). Roll it so the wick slides in and out of the wick hole with very little resistance to increase the draw. If the wick is too thick, it will have problems wicking.

I made it by starting with a loose straw and then rolling the mesh on one end slightly diagonally -- negative 5 degrees or so if the wick was being held vertically -- from the mesh already rolled below it. A paper clip -- used during oxidation of the mesh -- inserted into to the bottom of the wick only goes up about 1/3 of the way. It produces a beautiful vape with no dry hits or burning taste at all using 6 wraps of 30ga kanthal.
