Introduction Hello east house! As you know my name is Danielle Carlson. Verification (Steps to check for student understanding)• Beginning of Presentation: Can you guys deffine soil? What is healthy soil? What do you guys consider to be "bad soil"?
• End: Soil is a living enviroment that is made up of minerals from the earth. Soil has just as much influence in your flower garden, or not more, as the enviroment above ground.
10
Body (Give and/or demonstrate necessary information)Break down what you plan on talking about into manageable sections.

• Literal: What is soil? Soil structure, what is in soil and soil type (most important). Descirbe how to make soil healthy and how to maintain it.
• Interpretive: Salinated soil and how it effects grown plants. Describe science project and how the plants react with diseased soil.
• Applied: Knowing what healthy soil will help with the future of growing plants and helps the world in many ways that most people are unaware of. EX) golf courses, crops, food production...etc. As for my senior topic, healhty soil is basically a starting block for all of my answers to grow on. Without qualilty soil, you could not start a garden, let alone a healhty organinc one.

Activity (Describe the independent activity to reinforce this lesson)• What is the activity: The activity I'll be doing is trying to determine which soil is healthy out of 3 given. If the students get it right, I will come around and give them a starofoam cup and a seed. Then, the students will proceed to plant there own flower.
• How it will be done: In 3 plastic baggies I will put soil in each. 1 out of the 3 will be healthy. The students willl then examine the soils texture, color, and how it feels and, based on what I taught them, will proceed to then tell me whether its healthy or not.
• What materials will be used: Plastic Bags, soil (3), starofoam cups and seeds.

Three Important SourcesThree Important Sources
1. Bauder, James W. "The Basics of Salinity and Sodicity Effects on Soil Physical Properties." This article was written by horticultorist working at the Unviersity of Michigan. It was the first article I read about soil because I was searching for a problem for science fair. In this article they explained sailanted soil and the effects on the plants. If it wasnt for this article, I wouldn't have had a clear understanding of what can happen when you don't care for soil.
2. Maintaining Healthy Soil: A Gardener’s Duty by Megan Prusynski. This article explained how to maintain healthy soil and some tips and tricks to make it easy.
3. Pears, Pauline. Organic Gardening. This book was my favorite. It gave me all I needed to know about soil and more. Things I didn't even know excisted where taught to me in a great way. Not to mention, it had PICTURES! :)
