| Date | Hours | What I Did | Total Hours |
| 07 / 23 / 13 | 11 AM - 3 PM (4 hrs) | Was introduced as to what I would going to do for my presentation in the next upcoming 3 weeks // Met the other workers and members // Took a tour of the shelter and interacted with the animals // Took notes // Introduction of ourselves (mentor & I) // Created a custom made doggy tag for my puppy | 4 hours |
| 07 / 30 / 13 | 11 AM - 3:30 PM (4.5 hrs) | There was an event for younger kids and learning about the shelter and animals and why it's so important to keep in check // I was observing and taking in how things were presented, since I'm doing this next week // Acted as an assistant and helped with the kids // Answered questions the kids had // Met two dogs & discovered how dogs really do have different personalities // Took both for a walk and bathed them | 8.5 hrs |
| 08 / 06 / 13 | 11 AM - 3 PM (4 hrs) | My mentor and I prepared for next week's seminar and put together a scrapbook of the history of the humane society, which included the orginally building, the founder, and different articles written about the humane society. | 8 hours |
| 08 / 13 /13 | 11:30 AM - 5:30 PM (6 hrs) | Today was the introduction to the seminar, in which I assisted my mentor. There were 12 students total. I answered any questions they had, helped pass out the materials, played an activity with them, toured them around the shelter, and also sat there and learned myself. Afterward, my mentor & two other volunteers and I put out beds in the cages for the more ederly dogs. | 14 hours |
| 08 / 14 / 13 | 11 AM - 5:30 PM (6.5 hrs) | Our topic for the day was animal behaviour. So to contribute that to real life, two of the aspca admins came up & introduced two dogs to the students. Before doing so, a short section of a film off netflix was played, which showed relationships between animals of two different species (it was really touching). After, we split the kids into two groups (one for eac dog), and walked them down to the park to allow the dogs to show off their tricks & what they could do. Towards the end of the day, the kids were given doggie treats to give to the shelter dogs and they made little cards for them. | 20.5 hours |
| 08 / 15 / 13 | 11 AM - 5:15 PM (6 hrs / 15 mins) | Last day! Today's topic is very serious. It's of discrimination and puppy mills. The descrimination has to do with the certain breed of dogs, more so commonly the pitbulls. Sadly, they're used great to scare others off and used in dog fights, but little do these people know that they are the biggest, most playful babies. And the only reason a dog acts the way they do is because of the owner and whatever kind of training they give them. That comes with love and affection. As for the puppy mills, getting the dogs spayed & neutured is very, very important. Puppy mills and pet shops are a no go, and we are striving to get the kids to lean more towards adopting and getting the word around. Now that they have all this knowledge, they can educate the next person they know that wants to get a new companion! | 26 hours / 45 mins |
| 09 / 22 / 13 | 3:30 PM - 5 PM (2 hrs / 30 mins) | We spoke about the senior project as a whole and have already schdualed and planned the next three interviews. Also, I grabbed a couple of book that I thought might be useful to me in the near future. One of the interviewees actually walked in and had brought her neice from the UK. So we just spoke about the feild and what goes on in the shelter. I also had shared what I did during the summer | 2 hours / 30 mins |
| 10 / 11 / 13 | 3:30 PM - 5 PM (2 hrs / 30 mins) | Today was fairly easy. We spoke about upcoming events and about my senior project. We also went down to the kennels to get a dog to walk down to the park, which is always interesting because it allows me to realize that all dogs (and any other animal) individually have their own personality). | 5 hours |
| 12 / 26 / 13 | 10 AM - 3 PM (5 hrs) | I split my 10 hours into two days. Both days consisted of putting together the packages for the kids, as I mentioned in my last blog post. The packages that we mailed out included animal stickers and pencils and stamps and just little goodies for the kids. In between working, my mentor actually let me take this adorable red haired pitbull out for a stroll in the park. We didn't have a name decided for her. But she has a pink and green collar, which I said reminded me of strawberries. And with that, we named her Shortcake! See, her fur is red with a white chest, as a strawberry shortcake would be. ♡ | 10 hours |
| 12 / 27 / 13 | 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM (5 hrs) | - same as above - | 15 hours |

| 04 / 07 / 14 | 1:51 PM - 4:46 PM (2 hrs / 55 mins) | Today, I helped my new mentor, Milenna clean out her office and the other because since PHS got a new building for the store, there's more room. They'll be moving in where the stoe was before and the vounteer department is moving from portables to this place. I wasn't here as long. But there definitely was a lot of cleaning and sorting to be done. | ↓ |
| 04 / 08 / 14 | 1:12 PM - 5:19 PM (4 hrs / 7 mins) | Still working on cleaning. They have a week left. Today I faxed over some important documents for the developement department. Some contained newspaper articles where there were Pasadena Humane Society events mentioned or whther it be abot PHS itself. The developement deartment is in charge of hosting all events and taking in donations. They plan and budget, which is crucial to my second answer. | ↓ |
| 04 / 17 / 14 | 9:33 AM - 1:05 PM (3 hrs / 32 mins) | Today's task was to get the flyers with labels I had already done and putting them into packages for the event. There was 200+ packages. Each package contained three different sponsrship cards and little goodies here and there. There wa also an information pamphlet for people to look into incase they were curious about someting. | ↓ |

Right onto the next event: San Morena Motor Class. There, they will have a car show aong with promoting their shelter animals. They will bring out dogs to meet and greet. It's a cool, fun little fundraiser event. They are also taking in donations and such. To prepare for this, again, flyers had to be made. Also, mail donations were sorted. Name of people and their cars were to be filed and logged in... | ↓ |
| 04 / 25 / 14 | 2:01 PM - 4:28 PM (2 hrs / 27 mins) | Finishing up yesterdays work. | ↓ |
| 04 / 29 / 14 | 1:29 PM - 4:43 PM (3 hrs / 14 mins) | I was going back and forth between development deartment and the volunteer coordintor. In between, I visited the puppies and gave each one my love. Still working with getting the San Marino Motor Class event going, along with helping Mary Ann Organize her office. | ↓ |
| 04 / 30 / 14 | 1:15 PM - 5:07 PM (3 hrs / 52 mins) | I met some new faces today in the volunteer room. I also met a couple new dogs and made new friends. I again was going back and forth between these two departments and helping with whatever was avaiable. | ↓ |
| 05 / 06 / 14 | 1:43 PM - 4:51 PM (3 hrs / 8 mins) | I was asked to help Mary Ann, the volunteer coordinator to run a couple of errands around the shelter and helping her out with some of the volunteer things, such as gathering the name badges together or grading the new volunteer's tests to see if their eligable to actually become a volunteer. It was all based off the orientation in which is crucial to attend to. | ↓ |
| 05 / 07 / 14 | 1:24 PM - 4:35 PM (3 hrs / 11 mins) | - same as above - | ↓ |
| 05 / 12 / 14 | 1:23 PM - 4:18 PM (2 hrs / 55 mins) | Wrapping things up, I helped put items away in our new storage room. Within there, we organized all the things for the different events. I was given some little goodie bags to use for my presentation to give out. When we returned back to th room, there was a dog visiting and I was asked to take pictures of her. She was super shy, so it was up to us to make her break out of her shell. | 57 hrs / 7 mins |
