My thoughts about the school culture video is that it was interesting to see how other school function and what they do in their schools.	My thoughts about the subculture/ counterculture presentations was that it was interesting to see what people picked.

When we did the sites I was able to get a pretty in depth feel for how people in those groups are.	It was a cool experience to see how other schools are compared to ours and how kids at our school see the school compared to our thoughts on the school.	It was fun learning about other people cultures and their traditions and mores and how they interact in society.	Overall was a very good unit.

They keep to themselves and even though the mosh pits look very hostile, they're actually a way of releasing frustration. There is a list of things you dont do in a mosh, there's also a dance you do while moshing called Skanking.	It was fun and enjoyable. I liked learning about the other schools around the country. You should do it again because it was a lot of fun.	I enjoyed doing the website and presentations. I liked educating people about this counterculture and learning about all the other subculture and countercultures around the world.	none

I liked the school culture video I learned a lot more about the values and sanctions and non materials and folkways about west hills high school. Yeah I think you should do it again because it was fun and different from other projects I have done.	I liked them because I didn't know much about subcultures and countercultures and I didn't know most of these existed or even heard about them.

(Negative)- Running a BB (suicides)	There are so many subcultures to each culture and so many counterculture because there are so many different walks of life.	It was fun to create our school video projects and let people from around the country learn about West Hills.	There are so many different subcultures/ Counter cultures that exist. there are endless possibilities of what people could talk about.	Very good way to learn about Culture is by doing presentations and videos.

I didn't enjoy this project, I feel like it was a waste to explore our own culture when we are already familiarized with it, even if labels were never matched between material/non material/etc. I don't think you should do it again.	I really enjoyed this project, I thought it was nice to learn about something I probably wouldn't have bothered really looking in to without it. It was equally interesting to see what others had chosen.

Personally, I didn't really like doing it. I didn't see the use for doing it. I didn't really learn anything new about my school that I didn't already know. I bet a lot of other students enjoyed this project though, so yeah you should do this again.	I learned about what a lot of other people are into and what cultures they are in. It was interesting learning about other in my class.

Something that is so simple can be considered group with a togetherness. And also that that group has certain parts of it that need to work together in order for the group to function. Like everything has its meaning and place for it to be what it is meant to be.	I really enjoyed the school videos. I liked being able to watch everyone's videos and seeing how we all go to the same school but see things differently. Maybe some people saw the school values different than I did. I think this project was a good idea.	I think that some of the websites were really cool. I liked that we were able to pick out our own sub or counter culture to research and present to other people. Creating it was hard because I honestly had no motivation to finish this project so it was hard getting out of that mind set to finish it. I liked going around to other people's computers to see their websites because it let me see a little new about that person themselves because their project semi reflected them.

I thought it was a neat way to see how other schools in other places operate and go about their daily routine.	I thought they were unnecessary. Some people might even know that try participate in a culture or subculture	I fell like it was cool to be able to see what people think our school is about and other schools also are like	I think it was awesome to see what other people are in to and what makes everyone different from each other. Like with the Furries. I didn't know people actually dress like animals and pretend to be animals on a daily basis	It was sorta hard to think about something new like that.

Non material- dancing, rapping, singing praises, praying, socializing (actually really important) Material: bibles, Folkway- tithe on a regular basis More- must attend church on a regular basis and be actively involved in ministry Sanction- see lives changed and renewed	That there are many unorthodox, or very odd cultures and subcultures. They're not necessarily weird or even wrong, just unusual and different. I liked being able to see what other people chose and what they're involved in. Helped me to get to know them better. I didn't even know the student section at the Aztec games could be a subculture!	It was a fun experience. I think we could have edited the videos better an spent more time learning about the other schools, but I think we did a good job on presenting our school and explaining our cultural components. You should definitely do this again! With more schools!	I thought it was fun! It was easy as I was already involved in the culture I chose. I learned that people really aren't as judgmental as young think when presenting a part of your life.	We should spend more time in this unit. It's fascinating.

I learned how other schools around the country differ even though we all live in the same country. Also how other people reacted to our culture at west hills. You should do it again because it will show the kids how other schools are and they are able to share our own culture with others	I thought islet was very interesting. I learned all about subcultures in our class and got to see people that were part of these cultures talk about them. You could tell the many students cared deeply about this project because they were able to relate to the subculture.	Keep doing both projects because many students care deeply about the culture/subculture they are apart of would love to share it to others.

The most interesting thing that I learned this unit was the culture of the rainbow family while doing the project.	I learned a lot about our schools culture. I would have never thought about these things before the project. It was also cool seeing videos from other schools to see similarities and differences. Yes, you should do this project again.	I learned a lot from the research and my subculture was very interesting. I also enjoyed learning about others groups during the presentation. It was interesting learning more about these groups because you don't think about these things every day. Learning how to creating a website also will help me with future school projects. It shows that people are really trying to make a better life for themselves rather than falling into the Norms of where they live.. But it was cool to see everybodies passions shown through what group they chose and iow in depth they were in explaining it. I really liked how you taught us this section in many different ways by showing us other peoples cultures and having us look at our own culture to see what our own lives are really like.

I thought the videos gave views of west hills from different groups eyes so everyone could see different points of view.	They helped you open your eyes to many sub cultures and everything out there that you did not know about.	I think this unit opened people's eyes to different cultures and helped them maybe become more accepting and understand why certain people are part of the culture

Our material culture is our uniform, black pants, white shirt, Vons apron, no-slip shoes, and a name tag. Our folkways are pretty much the same as out non material culture. Our positive sanctions are raises, promotions, and paychecks, our negative sanctions are write-ups, suspensions, and getting fired.	The most interesting thing I learned during this unit was the sanctions in each culture. I thought it was interesting how there are positive and negative sanctions.	I thought this school video project was very interesting. I think it tonight us a lot about West Hills. I think we learned a lot about the school even though most of us are seniors and have already been here for 3 full years.	I thought everyone's presentation was great. Everyone knew what they were talking about and knew how to navigate through their website.

The thing that I though was Intresting was seeing the videos from other schools doing the same projects, and seeing how either alike or completely different they are from West Hills. And also seeing why different things students in our class put in there videos that was different from other videos, and seeing how West Hills has our own language, and different ways of doing things.	I think you should do the project again, its nice to see Different schools outside of San Diego and how they are so different from West Hills, and how they have there own little unique ways at there school.	I thought that it was nice that we didnt have to present in front of the whole class, and had that option to if we wanted. I liked researching the different things about our topic, really learned different things.
34	11/18/2013 11:46:01	Terenzini	Native	Period 3	I'm actively involved in an artist culture which has non material components such as = appreciation for other artists , open mindedness, ambition, different views, right brained. Some material components are art tools and supplies, art, possible artistic dress and hair such as dying your hair a different color, expression through outward appearance and art are the major material components of culture.	The most interesting thing I learned was during the websites the presentations on furry fandoms and the Japanese love industry. The details were things I never knew and never would have known if it wasn't for those presentations.	It was hard to find things that were specific to our school but made us challenge ourselves and I learned that out campus is slightly unique from others especially the park likeness. I would recommend doing the project again because it really challenges people to look at the components of culture and apply them to something they know well	I learned how to apply the components of culture to almost anything. There are almost endless subcultures and counterculture . The website was easy to create and made us look deeper into our subject and answering people questions made us realize some of the components of culture we missed. Other groups presenting made me realize how many subculture and countercultures and people are very passionate about their cultures and there are many components of culture people don't know because they don't give cultures a chance.

The most interesting thing I learned from the culture unit was watching the video Rize, before watching that I had never heard of the clown culture. Usually when you think of south central LA you think of gangs and violence because of what you see in the news. I liked learning about their culture because it portrayed a different part of south central LA where people were trying to do something positive to help keep young kids out of gangs and committing acts of violence.	I enjoyed doing the school culture project because it made me apply the different components of culture to our school. Through this project I started to understand the concepts of culture from mores such as being on class on time to non-material culture such as excelling academics.	I liked this project because I was able to learn about different cultures some which I've heard about and some that I never knew existed. The most important thing I learned this semester was that different cultures have different rules and that even thought something/someone's culture is different from mine it doesn't mean that it's a "counter culture" or unaccepted by society.	I thought that this was fun. I learned so things about about our school by talking to people and hearing their opinions. everyone has a different opinion and high school expire cow and it was fun to hear about what other people think about our school.	I learned a lot of information about groups or cultures that I thought. knew so much about. this project opens my eyes in regards to certain cultures. it also gave me a chance to dig deeper and examine a culture before assuming that I knew everything about it. Following the mores of our school like getting to school is important to me because its good to follow the rules of our school. It makes you feel responsible and its just a normal thing most students know to do.	The most interesting was the school culture video project. Seeing other schools in other states and how different they are from our school was really cool. Also just seeing the things the other schools are more into compared to the things our school enjoys was interesting. Some of the other schools aren't really into sports and here at west hills sports are a big part of our school so the comparisons were interesting to see.	I enjoyed doing the culture project video and I definitely think you should do it again. Even though I'm a junior and have been here at west hills for almost 3 years there were some things that I learned more about that I either didn't know before or didnt know very much about.	I learned a lot from the other groups because I got to look at the real facts of other cultures I didn't know much about. Now after learning some of the background knowledge about some of these cultures I look at them differently and with more real facts. Sometimes we may judge a culture or group of people based on what we think we know about them or the labels people place on them.	I think it's a positive thing to have lots of knowledge on culture because we live in a world with lots of diversity from race to religion to culture so it's good to have an understanding of the people around us.

Watching the west hills culture video it shows that everyone views west hills differently, we all have the same main idea but, people's opinions vary. I think it was interesting that culture shows that everyone has different views on the same idea.	I learned things about the school which I liked, this being my first year at west hills it helped me learn more about the school and what's normal and what's not. And I liked the uniqueness in everybody's video, every one had a different perspective. I liked this project and enjoyed creating the video. I also enjoyed seeing the differences between my old school and west hills	I learned a lot about making the website and I think it helped me to know more about sanctions and folkways and taboos, etc. I personally enjoyed learning more about other peoples projects than my own, and I found some people in the class to have very interesting topics. I didn't learn much from my own personal topic and if I could go back I would change my topic.	I enjoyed the culture unit, I kind of wish we could of talked about our home culture or sport culture, or any extracurricular activities culture and not focused on school so much, other than that I enjoyed this unit.

I liked that we got to go around to whatever we wanted but I thought we should have a couple more minutes so that we can further explain or go into a bit more depth with our questions. The most interesting thing I've learned during this unit were the clowns and crumpers subculture. If I hadn't watched the video and saw these people, I would have a different perspective about their way of life. The film helped explain how they were doing something positive for the community.	The school culture video mostly helped me with learning more skills when it comes to editing. For example when a certain part was not working, I discovered other ways to make it work for me. The project itself was fun besides the fact that technology was difficult to work with at times. Also learning about other schools and their culture was interesting. You should do this project again, but maybe find a more reliable way for editing.	I feel as though some groups did not get as noticed by others. If everyone had to present to the whole class, there would have been more interaction and learning about others subculture/counterculture.	No further thoughts.

We should learn more about a culture before we judge it or write it off.	This project was cool because we got to see what other schools are like and what makes them special. This wasn't my favorite project just because I'm not the best at video editing, but it definitely helped with my understanding of culture a lot.	I think this was my favorite project so far. I had a lot of fun learning about and trying to understand the beliefs behind my counterculture. It was also really cool to see what other people in the class were passionate about. It was also really easy to tell who in the class actually gave some effort and who didn't, so that was interesting as well.	I really liked this unit and found it really interesting. We talked about some fairly weird and different things which made it really fun. I also thought it was cool that we got to learn about dancing clowns which is unique to say the least :)

My thoughts on these were that we really were intrigued with the idea of learning other cultures and researching them with fascination and questioning them about what they do and why they influenced these specific people to make them a culture. I absolutely loved how well were into the project because some of us really outdid ourselves on some of the websites that we created. Living in San Diego, we don't have much of an opportunity to see how life is outside of this beautiful area. I remember thinking that indoor schools weren't real and only used in movies. After seeing the school's presentation videos, I kind of realized that those High School stereotypes are pretty accurate. We just aren't living them here.	I think that the majority of projects weren't very interesting due to the lack of freedom many should've been given. Since such strict limitations were placed on the project, I don't think students could fully and accurately represent their schools with the culture they really have.	I think that the majority of students weren't able to express themselves in all they ways they wished they could. Although the topics and presentations were interesting, many students have the inability to use all of the software they're expected to use this year. I think too many of the teachers are trying to integrate too much technology this year and is making these projects more challenging.	I just wish that we could've made it more interesting somehow. Maybe exposing more students to media before expecting so much from them.

Many kids will go to a concert wearing merchandise from the band they're there to see that night. Many people during these shows get into the music so every time there will be a mosh pit where kids will pretty much express how they feel.but sometimes people will get hurt by being in the pit or standing next to it. Most of the time you can meet the bands that play their and its really awesome when its your favorite band.	The most important thing I learned was to just be yourself and not worry about what other people think about you because you're in some other kind of group then theirs.	I thought it was a good thing because you get to see how other kids are in different parts of our country. A lot of us forget there are different ways kids act at other schools and its always good to see how others act .	I thought it was really cool to see how people had different ways to express how they feel whether its through.scaring, dancing,clothing, how you look. I learned that a lot of students at west hills value their school more than one may think	I learned a lot about body alterations indie games snd much mmore. This was an excellent way to experience cultureq	How can we learn more about specific cultures?

Trying the food was really interesting, the different types of culture there are with in the schools, people and what they enjoy doing with their everyday life.	I thought it was very interesting what other schools did or have in their everyday life compared to west hills. How they have to have art, music and all required.
79	11/18/2013 19:19:07	Villagomez	Jaeanna	Period 4				Viewing other groups were really interesting I was surprised on what I learned. One group got to me it was heart breaking. Creating a website wasn't thaaaaat hard. And presenting wasn't bad at all, I didn't know that much about skating so I did learn things myself. I learned about the body modifications those were gross yet interesting and the foster homes, I was really surprised what went on and all, and how open the girl was about it.	It was an interesting unit thing we have done so sat, I loved it!
80	11/18/2013 12:40:54	Wilde	Joe	Period 4	Family- helping around the house, doing chores- clothes, food, allowance- participating family game night- doing your homework, cleaning up after yourself, being respectful-desert, one on one fun time, allowance, money, getting to use the car, go places.	I really liked how we classified culture. We broke different cultures down and that really helped me to better understand them and to appreciate them. Before I didn't know anything about couture expect for the basics, but now I could break down eland culture and give someone the details.	It was a really good idea. I liked seeing other schools an how they do things tere because I'm so accustomed to wet hills culture that I forget that other schools do things way differently. I do wish my group tried better on our project to better represent west hills though.	It was a good eye opener I'm terms of being able to distinguish a culture from a subculture. It allowed me to better understand a specific sub culture of people.	I actually really like the subject of sociology and figuring out why people do what they do. I've always been someone to ask and wonder why things are and this class is right up my alley.

Positive: women's day negative: Russians can be scary	I learned that in other cultures, in their mind, it is normal. Just like in our mind, our culture is normal.	I thought it was cool, because I loved seeing all the things that goes on in my school, because I can relate to it.	I learned that everyone has a different perspective on anything. It showed how the other cultures think, and Their way of doing things.	I really enjoyed doing a project on anything I wanted, because it was something I actually wanted to learn about.
