5/14/2012 16:13:03CascadiaYesFrom our bargaining agreement:

Faculty may teach distance education courses upon the completion of at least one (1) quarter of teaching at the college and completion of the WAOL online
instructor training or equivalent type online training.

**** NOTE FROM Brandy *****
This policy holds true for anyone who wants to use the LMS. They MUST complete training or have their eLearning person email us indicating they had training at their previous institution.
Same for F2F, online & hybrid. Passing the SBCTC class or equivalentFor Angel, Boyoung's class, so 2-3 weeks

10/24/2012 16:35:55ClarkYesAt Clark, a Moodle account is only delivered after a “basics” 2-hour Moodle workshop (f2f or Collaborate only at this time). During migration to Moodle, online and hybrid faculty were paid to attend 9 hours for a more extensive 3-part workshop that included setup/design (pedagogy with QM emphasis), hand-on course design, and an online “teaching with Moodle” experience. Since migration, new faculty and face-to-face faculty are required to take the basics workshop, but not paid by eLearning to take it. Some individual departments pay faculty to take it (particularly adjunct faculty). The rate is always our contracted $31.30 per hour.

We have separate workshops that are recommended but not required: grading in Moodle (3-hours), effective online discussions (2 weeks online), online teaching strategies (4 weeks online), designing hybrid courses (3 weeks hybrid), APPQMR and so on. These are all attended quite well, most of the time with folks on the waitlist.

I’m interested in the responses here because I’d like to see our campus require the online and hybrid workshops before faculty can teach either (partially to prevent their scheduling without a qualified instructor assigned). Most of these faculty are coached and/or mentored by me or someone else if they don’t participate in the workshops, but there are some online and hybrid instructors who have slipped through the cracks.

10/24/2012 16:32:12CPTCYesTraining from other institutions was accepted until we incorporated QM training. Now they have to also be able to demonstrate QM training. If they can’t then we offer that separately which they also have to pay for if they want PDUs.

Kelley Meeusenkelley.meeusen@cptc.eduActually, our faculty pay to attend our training, but only if they want PDU credit for maintaining their professional certification.

5/14/2012 10:56:01Olympic CollegeYesOur policy is that faculty must have training before they teach online. Unfortunately, there have been times when exceptions had to be made, as when an instructor is assigned at the last minute. There was no follow up to make sure the training was received. We now have some who are teaching, but have not completed any of the state training.

5/14/2012 16:00:29PierceYesWe have two levels of training.
To use Angel (or any LMS) for Web-Enhanced classes (3 hr training), they must have a basic skill level in using the tool before we will 'connect' their course to the SMS-Angel Integration. We start collecting WE requests around the 8th week of the previous term, review the requesters for training completion and then generate the shells several weeks before the start of the coming term (along with online and hybrid).
For online and hybrid courses, faculty must have completed the WAOL "How To Teach Online" training (or some facimile from another institution). The departments plan which courses will be offered online and hybrid and the department staff communicate annual plans with eL in Spring which coincides with district budget development. Quarterly updates are sent to eL as adjustments happen. eL process the online section SMS input and e-schedule data uploads. We fund the majority of the sections from eL's budget. There typically is enough advance notice to get new faculty through the WAOL training and provide time for course development. We are eperiencing more last minute changes that are driving us to have a local training. We are just introducing QM into the new course development and routine review of courses. Our new faculty contract requires all online faculty to take QM's APPQMR in the next three years.
WAOL's fully online for Intro to Angel and How to Teach Online and 3 hour F2F Intro to AngelIntro to Canvas will be required if previoulsy teaching with Angel.4 weeksApprox 40Ed Bachmannebachmann@pierce.ctc.eduNo charge to Pierce employees to participate, No stipend unless part of another college initiative or grant activity with a selection process and deliverables.

10/6/2014Renton Technical CollegeNoNothing formal; there is an online faculty orienation that I hope to turn into a self-paced course. We get word out about SBCTC and QM trainings and also have an in-house online course on hybrid teaching, but nothing is required at this point. Have started coordinating a "Quality RTC review" based on QM, but only a few faculty have participated.Liz Falconerlfalconer@rtc.edu
