Summer mentorshipMichelle Benavides     phone : (626) 404-90447/2/20127:30 A.M. - 12:40 P.M. Total #'s hours: 5 hours 10 minutesFrom 7:30 to 10:05 I went with my mentor Michelle Benavides, to her job at South Hills High School where she interrupts for the deaf and hard of hearing students (dhh), with her I was able to sit through a mainstream class. The class was full of hearing students and one deaf student. I was able to see how Samantha, the deaf student, interacted in her freshman English class. Later on through the day Michelle let me go to a full deaf class from 10:15 to 12:40. In the deaf class all the students were deaf or hard of hearing, even the teacher was deaf. This deaf class was focused on English.

7/3/20127:30 A.M. - 12:45 P.M. Total #'s hours: 5 hours 15 minutesToday i was able to go back to the English deaf class. this time Mrs. Gough allowed me to help around in the class which was a frighting and thrilling experience for me. when i went back to her class i notice that Mrs. Gough would rearrange the students desk. i asked the aid, Jill, what was the purpose for it? She told me that it was for the students to focus more on their work than talking with their friends. for my second part of the day Michelle introduced me to another interrupter and allowed me to sit in her class. this was a mainstream CASHEE math class and a total of three deaf students. the class was over all very quite but i notice that the deaf students grouped up and were always helping each other out.

Independent Componet 1      (extra 30 hrs of mentorship)sgough@cvusd.k12.ca.usoct 3,201212:50-3All during this time I was with Mrs.Gough and when I came in during 5th and 6th period she was teaching both a math class. And as usual I did help the students that needed help but there wasn't alot. They seem to be fine on their own so I mostly would just see how she would teach her math class and she used this one method that she learned from a conference I think it's called EFI. Which stands for Effective First Instruction. It did seem to work in her class and that was one of the things that I learned.
7
oct 8,201212:55-3helped one of the students correct his test. I learned that i ahould learn some math signs.
8
oct 11,201212:50-3This day there was a subsitute. I felt really bad because this sub didnt know any sign language at all, which is rediculious because that a deaf class she is subbing for. She had me to intterupt for her. I dint mind but if they are going to get a sub for a deaf class they should know sign language or have an intterupter there.
9
oct 15,201212:50-2:30there is another sub, but this time she is deaf. this time she made them do book work so i sat there till they asked me for help.
10
oct 18,201212:45-3Mrs. Gough taught me and explained the concept that she learned, EFI, and she used it in class so i got to see that concept used in the class.
11
oct 19,201212:50-3All these days were the same. I came into the class room, watch the lechture, then help the students when she had them do book work or a worksheet. Sometimes help prepare for test.

lvannerson@cvusd.k12.ca.usjan 10,201312:50-3starting the new year Mrs.Gough told me of other teachers that I could go and vistit and maybe help them out. So far I've been to Mrs. Lubman, Mrs.Vannerson, and Mr.Coner's classes. I do change up where I gp first. 5th period (the time I get there) for Vannerson is math, Lubman doesn't have a class so I don't go in there at that time, and Connor has a DHH English class. 6th period for Vanderson is tutoring, Lubman also has a tutoring class and Conor has a ASL class. And in all the classes all I do is help the students that the teachers are unable to help at the moment.*ranking of whose class I went to the most: Gough, Conor, Lubman, Vannerson

Also she had me tell my story to the class, which was pretty cool and nerve wracking all at the same time. That day the students had speech so I got to see what went on during that time.
