Interactive TechnologyTouch sensitive surface. More expensive models feature multi-touch (simultaneous input from two sources). Can use pen or your fingers to manipulate the board. Technology is in the pen, pen uses camera to pick up dot pattern off of board to determine location, pen communicates with computer via blue-tooth to USB blue-tooth dongleMulti-touch surface with dual user capability. Pen input, connects to the computer via USBCamera from the Mimio Xi is mounted to a dry erase board, you then touch the Mimio Moune “an IR pen” to the board and it acts as an imput device.Interactive Technology - Infrared pen and camera, USB connection to computerThe Wiimote can track sources of infrared (IR) light, you can track pens that have an IR led in the tip. By pointing a wiimote at a projection screen or LCD display, you can create very low-cost interactive whiteboards or tablet displays. Since the Wiimote can track upto 4 points, up to 4 pens can be used. It also works great with rear-projected displays. This option uses a tablet to remote the screen of your computer. This is not a slate, that only acts as an input device, with various apps the tablet mirrors your desktop.

Cons-Basic models only allow for single touch
-Software upgrade cycle can come at bad times, such as the start of the school year
-Some people have complained about the tech support provided by Smart, including long waits fro responses and parts. They do ask you to do quite a lot of the troubleshooting yourself, which may be a result of the nature of the board technology.
-Board scratches easily.
-Concern about lifespan of the board. Many of ours fail in a few years with dead zones or un-synced writing. It seems that the Smartboard has more things that can break.
-Cannot be used for regular whiteboard, so you will give up that space in the classroom when not being used interactively with the projector.
-Must connect by USB unless you buy $200 Blue-tooth accessory
-Glare on glass surface in areas with lots of natural sunlight
-Replacement pens are pricey ($150) and warranted for only a year
-Cannot use finger as cursor
-Pen must be held in with sensor facing down.
-Pen can use batteries pretty quickly.
-Must be hardwired through USB
-You cannot write on with dry erase marker, or screen will discolor over time
-Can be challenging to mount.
-Need surface to project on
-software resources limited compared to other IWBs
-suction cups are a joke (use 3m adhesive strips on bar)
-Some people have reported inaccurate writing compared to where pen really is
-Potential interference from other IR sources (Christmas lights, bright sunlight)
-RM EasiTeach has a smaller online resource collection compared to Smart Teacher Exchange
-Must use pen, which could be a challenge for younger children or those with motor issues.
-Requirement for use of USB cable can limit placement of controlling computer
-Requires a Techie person to get the project started and then to keep the it running
-You may have to pair the Wiimote to the PC and calibrate your board more often if your Wiimote is not permanently powered and mounted in your classroom.
-You must have wireless in your classroom if you don't already.
