1 | Hours 1-2 | Prepared for breakfast early on. Had to load ice chests and the utility truck. Had to work together as a team in order to load the ruck effectiviely and quickly in order to arrive at the park in time to set up for breakfast. | ||||||||||||||||||
2 | Hours 2-3 | Arrived at park and set up for brekfast. Had to unload all of the ice chests and stoves and remaining food in order to feed the community. Also had to set up the ez-ups and tables so we could serve the food. i had to personally get the eggs ready for cooking. I had to crack hundreds of hundreds of eggs. | ||||||||||||||||||
3 | Hours 3-5 | Had to serve the community. I had to serve the eggs and actively make conversation with the community and answer any questions about the explorer program that they had. Some of the questions that were asked were: What is the uniform for? What do you do as an explorer? What other types of community events do you do? | ||||||||||||||||||
4 | Hours 5-6 | Walked around the park after i was done serving and tried to sell lottery tickets in order to raise money for our post. I also had to greet people and tell them about our post and any questions that they had. | ||||||||||||||||||
5 | Hours 6-7 | Had to take everything down and throw away any trash. Had to tear down the ez-ups and put all of the equipment including stoves, ice chests, ez-ups, and food back on the utility truck. Also had to go back to the station and unload everything and put everything away. | ||||||||||||||||||
6 | Hours7-8:30 | Had to meet at the station and prepare for a full day of training exercises for the next day. Had to get ice chests ready with waters and ice. Had to get 20 sets of turnouts ready. Had to get gloves, boots, helmets, tables, and ezups prepared for the next day. Had to load the utility truck with all of the equipment and get the engine ready to go in the morning. | ||||||||||||||||||
7 | Hours 8:30-9 | Met at the station at four in the morning and got any last minute equipment that wen needed for the all day training. Had to work as a team again and load the flag and the last couple of ice chests full of drinks and snacks. | ||||||||||||||||||
8 | Hours 9-11 | Arrived at our destination and had to set up. Had to take everything off of the utility and set up ice chests, ez-ups and all of our firefihting equipment. Had to set up turnouts in our boots and report for a short physical training where we did some warmup exercises such as situps and push ups. We then met other posts and interacted with them. We hen had an assembly where we had to stand at attention and start the trianing exercises for the day. | ||||||||||||||||||
9 | Hours 11-14 | Search and rescue training where we had to work in teams of three and crawl underground in tunnels. We had to communicate with our fellow explorers and move a rock from point a to point b and have a medical report of why the patient (rock) was suck in the tunnel and how we got him to safety. We ran through this activity a few times and learned about search and rescue the rest of the time.I also researched more on search and rescue and that took an hour of research time for the search and rescue aspects in the fire department. | ||||||||||||||||||
10 | Hours 14-17 | Worked with heavy machinery such as pick axes, concrete bits, sledgehammers, coring bits, and a jackhammer. This section was training for a structure colapse. As firefighters they may have to break apart concrete in order to get to a victim or even to help better conatin the fire, so we were there using this machinery and practicing with it.I also got extra experience with this working with my dad breaking some concrete. | ||||||||||||||||||
11 | Hours 17-21 | Went to orientations to learn about some of the heavy engines that are used all throughout the fire department. Went to a question and answer for the different types of tractors in the fire department. Also went to a Q and A for the helicopter sin the fire department where we learned about the life of a pilot in the fire department. Also did additional learning learning about the different types of fire trucks in the fire department. | ||||||||||||||||||
12 | Hours 21-24 | Worked with the forestry department in the fire service. They alowed me to cut line and use tools such as shovels, rakes, pulaskis, and pick axes. We had a line of explorers and we had to make a continous one foot deep line in order to put our hose in to contain a fire. We had to do this and watch other explorers do this. It was one of the harder parts of the day because it is constant movement and digging. | ||||||||||||||||||
13 | Hours 24-27 | Had to put out an actual fire. The fireman lit an actual fire where we had to get the line off of the truck and contain the fire and eventually put the fir eout. This was the highlight of the day because we had a live fire. They would also put gasoline on the fire and we would have to put that out. We had to fully dress for this training exercise in turnouts, flame masks, helmets gloves, boots, everything we need in order to stay safe in case of an accident. | ||||||||||||||||||
14 | Hours 27-29 | Had to clean up after the event and put everything away in the utility. We also had to finalize all competitions we did and report to my mentor. We then had to go to the station where we unloaded everything and we washed the utility and the firetruck. We then had a short meeting about what we did for the day and how it heped us benifit in our study of the department. We also talked about what would happen with future events. | ||||||||||||||||||
15 | Hours 29-30 | Had additional research with the forestry department and realized i rather focus my senior project on structure fre. After realizing this i talked to my mentor and asked him differences between the two. | ||||||||||||||||||
