| 8/18/2013 | 8 Hours | Today was my first day with the Cabrillo Marine aquarium. I learned my surroundings and where everything was located. Was taught how to feed the jellies and other marine animals there. Learned how to keep tanks clean, along with the displays. Was introduced to other volunteers who gave me tours of where everything behind the scenes were. Learned the water/filter systems, what kinds of food for what fish, where extra tanks and gravel were and what not to do. | 8 Hours
| 8/25/2013 | 8 Hours | Today I got to feed the Moon and Sea Nettle jellies by myself, along with the Kelp Bass, Red Abalone, Pipefish and Wolf eels. Cleaned the tanks and wasshown where a few things were. We then had to take egg samples from the California Spiny Lobsters there. Both females had eggs and we needed to take samples of the eggs so that we could see how far along in development they were. So while another volunteer held down the lobsters, I removed a small clump of eggs from each and put them into separate jars. When we looked under the microscope, the larger female's eggs would need quite a bit more time, while the smaller lobster's eggs would hatch within three weeks. That was really cool. We also got a new baby sheepshead today and I learned that all sheepshead are born females but when they mature, the most dominant one will turn into the male. | 16 Hours
| 9/1/2013 | 8 Hours | Fed Redc Abalone, Pacific Sea nettles and Moon jellies. Collected crabs, snails and hermit crabs down at the tidepools for the octopus. Interviewed Andres Carillo. Talked about senior project, decided to try and do something with Swell Sharks. Researhed Swell sharks at library then returned for p.m. feeding and cleaning of the tanks. | 24 Hours
| 9/14/2013 | 8 Hours | Today I went on a Saturday instead because I had a meeting on Sunday. Did usual morning feeding and cleaning. Studied the sharks in the shark exhibit. Also got my mentor today, Andres Carillo. | 36 Hours
| 9/22/2013 | 8 Hours | Participated in Icebreaker. Watched a presentation about the young scientists program and met the possible 'mentors'. Went down to beach to perform beach seine, caught many Topsmelt. Weighed them and took length. Then we did Quadrant Squares. Then I went back to my normal duties and fed the fish and stufff. | 44 Hours
| 9/29/2013 | 8 Hours | Did not feed anything in morning. Otherwise normal day. Met with mentor to discuss my research project. | 52 Hours
| 10/6/2013 | 8 Hours | Normal day. Got my interview done with Andres. Went to tidepools to collect snails and crabs. Learned how to prepare laval buckets and how to make green water. | 60 Hours
| 10/13/2013 | 8 Hours | Fed and cleaned everything. Checked for eggs, to no avail, in the gobbie tank. Helped remove gametes and larvae from moon jellies. Went with a new volunteer to collect snail and crabs for octos. Talked to mentor and Kiersten about my project, we decided to switch from sharks to olive rockfish. | 68 Hours
| 3/16/2014 | 8 | Today was a very exciting day, it was the Young Scientist Symposium. But first I needed to feed my Olive Rockfish for my research project. I helped with the larval buckets, a.m. and p.m. feedings as well as cleaning tanks and tank checks. | 76

| 5/4/2014 | 8 | Today was not a data day but I still had to feed my Olive Rockfish. I talked to Cody, a staff member, to get ideas of how I could improve my research project had I wanted to go into a third trial or something. He suggested that I make the tanks a lot bigger. Also, we discussed how the sudden change from being fed every day twice a day, being in a larger tank and all together compaired to their current state could change their behavior. | 124
| 5/11/2014 | 8 | Today was my last day of my Olive Rockfish research project. I collected my last set of data and used ImageJ. Then I did my fourth interview with my new mentor Nicole, and I learned a lot about larval fish tanks that I didn't know before. Then, she took me up to the library to help me find some good books to read since I am interested in fish Larva. I got to catch adult smelt to help transfer them from one tank to another for later release. That was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I learned that the larval buckets were changed a bit, they took out of Pavlova 1800. | 132
