| It is a great honour to be chosen to carry the Olympic torch for London 2012. The Olympics will have tremendous impact on communities throughout the UK. At a more local level, I have been privileged to be involved in a charitable project to commemorate the life and work of a great locally-born writer, including holding a literary festival to introduce local schools and the community to the art of biography, and to establish a learning experience to educate and help regenerate an area of Scotland still suffering from loss of traditional employment. | Peter Kennerley | Company Secretary and Legal Director | Ayr | 55 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-06-08/index.html | Girvan | 08/06/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=girvan/index.html | http://www.london2012.com/imgml/torchbearers/s/2980-F0B7-C218-4546.jpg | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=peter-kennerley-1955/index.html |
| As part of the senior management team for a global organisation I travel far and wide regularly and realise I am very fortunate to be in the position I am. On my travels I not only see the good but also the bad where poverty and financial deprivation are rife. So I have given back by using my time and knowledge over the past 25 years in a variety of ways. One of which is to help those with drug and alcohol problems. This to me is truly inspirational as I see how these individuals can escape their dependency and turn their lives around, be revitalised with a renewed focus and enthusiasm for life through the help, guidance and support of others. Carrying the Olympic Torch is an honour - to be a part of this with so many people from all walks of life is something I will never forget! | Bill Caplan | Managing Director Europe and Middle East | East Horsley | 54 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-07-20/index.html | Dorking | 20/07/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=dorking/index.html | http://www.london2012.com/imgml/torchbearers/s/48E4-AF67-36DD-B94F.jpg | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=william-caplan-1984/index.html |

| Whilst more keen on sport than book studies at school, I never dared dream of anything like the Olympics ever featuring in my life as I ran up and down the hockey pitch or around the running track with the relay baton or flopped into the long-jump pit! Then my interests turned to equine pursuits and, in my role with the British Driving Society (Scotland) as area commissioner for the West of Scotland, I enjoy encouraging others into the carriage driving world which is definitely a sport for all, embracing all ages and abilities. I am thrilled and honoured to be given this once-in-a-lifetime chance to be a torchbearer for London 2012. | Sheila Mcneill | PA to the CEO | Glasgow | 51 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-06-09/index.html | Luss | 09/06/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=luss/index.html | http://www.london2012.com/imgml/torchbearers/s/CAB6-384D-A7E2-DF4E.jpg | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=sheila-mcneill-7539/index.html |
| There are few things in life that can be of true value and even fewer that will be remembered by future generations. Participating in the Olympics is surely one of these. To be granted the honour of running with the Olympic torch and sharing in all that it represents is thrilling beyond words, thank you for this opportunity of a lifetime | Tom Armstrong | Chief Information Officer | Ardrossan | 50 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-06-08/index.html | Stewarton | 08/06/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=stewarton/index.html | http://www.london2012.com/imgml/torchbearers/s/1C6B-63B3-A5F0-7C48.jpg | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=thomas-armstrong-5796/index.html |
| For a number of years I have worked for an organisation that's been involved in the execution and support of major events such as Beijing Olympics, Vancouver Olympics and now the London Olympics. The company gave me the great of honour of being nominated for the torch run, which I am pleased to accept knowing that I represent some 4500 employees who work to provide power solutions across many parts of the developing world. These countries see our company as a beacon of light in providing essential electricity, and more importantly they see a British company providing a solution for the community. | Kash Pandya | Regional Director International | Dubai | 49 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-07-24/index.html | The Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames | 24/07/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=the-royal-borough-of-kingston-upon-thames/index.html | http://www.london2012.com/imgml/torchbearers/s/FDFE-2B74-702F-834F.jpg | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=kashyap-pandya-1987/index.html |
| I have always been a bit of a dreamer. Luckily I chased many of my dreams and found that they can come true. I was born in rural America but dreamed of seeing the world. Joining the Marine Corps was the first step in fulfilling that dream. Later in life I met my lovely Scottish wife and moved to Scotland making two of my dreams come true. Carrying the Olympic torch will be another dream that I never thought I would see become true. This dream is becoming reality through the support of the many great people I work with. Their nominations and votes have afforded me this great opportunity ? that of being an Olympic Torch Bearer for the 2012 Olympic Games. It is an honour that will stay with me for the rest of my life and proves yet again that your dreams can come true. | Dennis Cooper | senior analyst | Houston | 48 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-06-09/index.html | Glencoe | 09/06/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=glencoe/index.html | http://www.london2012.com/imgml/torchbearers/s/0546-9A70-2DF9-8D43.jpg | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=dennis-cooper-1957/index.html |
| Whilst bringing up my 2 daughters I taught myself computer skills & changed my career path into office work. Once my children went to school I volunteered for a Healthy living Project in my area which gave me the great experience. I have worked for my organisation now for the past 5 years which I truly enjoy & I am proud to work for, this has led me to be nominated for carrying the torch by my fellow colleagues. The thought of carrying the torch makes me feel honoured, privileged & hopefully it will make my family proud of me for this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. | Helen Docherty | Receptionist | Glasgow | 47 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-06-09/index.html | Fort Augustus | 09/06/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=fort-augustus/index.html | http://www.london2012.com/imgml/torchbearers/s/1653-F704-5AF9-5C4E.jpg | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=helen-docherty-5799/index.html |
| I feel immensely proud to be one of the individuals that have been given the opportunity to take part in the London 2012 Torch Relay. I have always enjoyed sport and in recent years I have competed in several half marathons and this year took on a personal challenge, a 28 mile coastal off road marathon which also allowed me to fundraise for a chosen charity. Now I have my own children I value even more the role that sport can play in a child's life and each Friday evening I help to coach Kingsbridge RFC under 11's team. It is a great thrill to see them growing in agility and tactically grasping the game, both during training and when competing against other teams. And now the boys are also gaining from the new friendships that they have formed through sport. My involvement with junior rugby is a small way of putting something back into the game given the enjoyment I had as a player. I hope my involvement with the 2012 Olympics will inspire the boys to continue their interest in sport for many years to come. | Andrew Wotton | Major Accounts Manager | Modbury | 43 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-06-30/index.html | Lichfield | 30/06/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=lichfield/index.html | http://www.london2012.com/imgml/torchbearers/s/E4B6-6CA8-8C20-CD4E.jpg | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=andrew-wotton-1975/index.html |
| The opportunity to take part in the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will be a fantastic experience for me. I really look up to Olympic athletes because of their skills and dedication. They are such an inspiration to me, watching them makes me want to take part in many sports. I do play individual sports, but I also like being part of a team and helping my friends have more fun. When I'm not in the team, I go and support them and cheer them on. I think it is important to play sport even if you don't win very often. The dedication of the Olympic athletes is a good lesson for me so I must try my best at all times. Carrying the torch will act as a reminder to try my hardest at everything I do for the rest of my life. | Tom Richardson | Son of Robin Richardson | Alcester | 15 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/day=2012-07-01/index.html | Stratford-upon-Avon | 01/07/2012 | http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/community=stratford-upon-avon/index.html | http://www.redditchstandard.co.uk/2012/05/11/news-Ready-to-carry-flame-39508.html | |
