12/13/20131 & 1/2Got a tour of the entire school, and the office in the back, and the desk where I'd be working at. I didn't do much besides get familiar with the place and my mentor showed me where I'd store the files and what I'm supposed to write on the time sheets and progress sheets. 1 & 1/2
3
12/16/20131 & 1/2I went with my mentor to the office and we worked on time sheets and progress sheets together.3
4
12/20/20132I helped file and scan papers and print certificates for the kids who had completed the program. Nothing too big, but I met some other counselors. 5
5
12/21/20131 & 1/2I didn't do much besides clean file cabinets (which contained alot of files btw) and move them to a different cabinet cause they needed more space. 6 & 1/2

1/6/20142 & 1/2I went to the office without my mentor this time because she was busy conducting home visits, but she did leave me under the supervision of her coworker Aurora. I helped Aurora finish her time sheets and file them because I guess she was a little behind. She also spent alot of time telling me stories about her clients (without mentioning names of course)9
7
1/7/20142I did the same thing this time but i finished kinda early, so I got to snoop through all the books they had stored.11

1/8/20142This time I didn't go to the office but instead i did my hours at home with my mentor, who is also my mother. She made me do spreadsheets on her work laptop and then helped me to find good research,13

2/4/20142My day consisted of me meeting someone who I might start doing hours with, and her name is Teresa. She used to work with my mentor until my mentor switched offices to Los Angeles. She's been working at SEA for a number of years as a Home Visit Counselor. Basically what she does is visit clients at their homes, with their parents and offer advice and support to not only the client, but the relative as well. She told me that she noticed that alot of the times, the parenting within these households doesn't exist, and that's why these kids turn to drugs or gangs for comfort.15
10
2/6/20142I thought I would never work on progress and time sheets again, but i was wrong. That's literally all I worked on today.17
11
2/11/20142Another day of progress and time sheets.19
12
2/13/20142I got to meet some other staff members at the office today, and I remember one of them went to Cal Poly with my mentor but I hadn't seen him in years so it was nice. I also met some other, older ladies, but i forgot their names unfortunately, and they all told me about their experiences with working with SEA and these families.21

2/18/20142My day consisted of progress and time sheets again.23

2/20/20142Another day of progress and time sheets.25

2/25/20142Another day of progress and time sheets. Paperwork is my least favorite part of the job.27

2/27/20142Today was a slow day. All i did was help deliver some files personally to the client and their families. I wasn't able to actually meet the (which sucks) but I was able to assist.29

3/8/20142I'm taking advantage of the fact that my mentor is my mother and I get to see her most days out of the week so I've started doing hours on a Saturday! Yay!(not really) I plan to do at least 10 hours this month so i can focus on my independent component beginning April. My mentor has recently decided to go back to school to get her masters in Psychology, and is required to write 10 page essays like every week. But since she works and does all this stuff, she lets me help her research. She took a class on drug addiction today and told me that meth is becoming one of the most popular drugs these days amongst youth, so I got the opportunity to research meth and all its effects(which are horrific if I'm being completely honest.) and she also told me some of her experiences of working with kids who are addicted to meth. I won't say any names here, but she told me that when someone is high off of meth, their sex drive increases by alot, and they end up having sexual intercourse with the person they took meth with. (even if its two guys). 31

3/10/20142So today I didn't really do much but I had to move all the files in one cabinet to another and alphabetize them by last name and coordinate them by year, I guess for organizational purposes? Of all the students enrolled/previously enrolled in the school and what services they were enrolled in. I noticed that the bulk of them were from 1995 to 1996, and that's around my age. It's crazy to think that someone my age is out there addicted to cocaine or living on the streets or something like that, cause the majority of these kids are.33

3/15/20142Today I had to go into the office on a Saturday and had to finish all the files from yesterday that I didn't finish. Believe me when I say there were hundreds.35
20
3/17/20142Believe it or not, I didn't finish with the scanning and inputting into the computer so I had to keep doing that. It doesn't seem like alot, but it's super time consuming.37
21
3/22/20143And yet again, I had to finish the remainder of the files that I didn't finish(which were still alot to be honest) It took forever but I finally got it done. 40
22
3/24/20142Today my day consisted of spending my time on the computer and printing all the applications that are needed for kids who are new and are trying to enter the program. I also saw in the office today that they have calendars up and actually teach substance abuse awareness classes to all the students enrolled, but they didn't do one for the month of March which bummed me out, but nevertheless, it was still interesting.42
23
3/29/20142So today consisted of me scanning already completed applications and then organizing them into specific files by last name and year onto the computer. The scanner automatically sends the file to the desktop when it's scanned and I thought that was sooooooo cool. That was probably the highlight of today.44

5/1/20142So today I found out that the SEA office in Pomona is officially closing. :( I'm not really sure why, but this means that every employee is losing their job(which really sucks) and that everything has to be packed by June(which also really sucks) So my task today wasn't that big, but she told me to go to a cabinet, take out all the papers from the boxes, determine which ones are needed and which ones are not, and shred all the ones that aren't needed. I really didn't think it was possible for someone to spend two hours just shredding a box full of paper. BUUUUT today two kids from the school next door walked in to the office because they didn't wanna go to class. There were three staff members in the office, and one of them was a really tough looking guy, and even he couldn't get them out of the office. These kids really aren't that compliant with anything. (P.S I ATTACHED A PICTURE OF THE OFFICE JUST SO YOU KNOW HOW IT LOOKS LIKE)46

5/6/20142So Teresa got me to start packing by cleaning out some client cabinets which I took a picture of that you can see on the side. I had to arrange them from year (which ranged from 1992 to 1998) and let me tell you, there were ALOT. I also had to alphabetize them by last name, which took forever considering there were so many. 48
26
5/8/20142So today I went in and Teresa handed me like 4 huge binders filled with a bunch of applications from the teens for different programs. She had me take them out, throw away all the unnecessary files, clean out the binder, and tie all the remainding papers with rubberbands to have it more organized. All these files were from like 2008 and I didn't know they had to keep all these files for that long, which I thought was pretty interesting. I also had to alphabetize them as well. At this point I really hate alphabetizing. I spent two hours at the office and I only finished ONE binder. There were about 100 applications in just one binder. I'm going in next Tuesday to finish the rest.50
