3
5/25/2013 20:12:14Because the support, connections, opportunities, and relationships that are built through Twitter will push to become an even BETTER educator than you ever realized you could.
4
5/25/2013 20:13:43It's a fantastic way to LEARN every day!
5
5/25/2013 20:14:05To see that you're not the only one struggling, and to get support for what you want to do to help your students learn!
6
5/25/2013 20:14:47To get new ideas and help implementing them... Then to share your successes with those around the world that have helped you and your students learn & succeed!
7
5/25/2013 20:15:09I have found so many professional resources using Twitter. I love reading messages from teachers on a national basis. I also love sending out quick assignment reminders or well wishes to my students. I think the kids really like seeing my interest in popular technology relevant to their lives.
8
5/25/2013 20:15:47Educators should join Twitter because it is the best form of constant professional development- 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week! It is free, current and personalized, which are all critical features of sound professional development. It also allows for connections with educators from across the globe and those connections are so important for educators for so many reasons!
9
5/25/2013 20:15:57Although I haven't quite gotten the hang of it, Twitter is a great way to connect with teachers with the same interests, our students. I have already gained access to some wonderful ideas and insights.
10
5/25/2013 20:17:08The use of twitter as a professional tool has allowed me to gather wonderful information that has helped me be a better deliverer of classroom content, user of technology in an effective and interactive way, and connected to educators with like minds (and different minds) from around the country and world. Using social media in a responsible way in front of the students also has demonstrated the appropriate use of technology in the 21st century (NETS: Digital Citizenship - Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior). Lastly - it has brought others to my door so that I can share my philosophies, beliefs, and practices in my classroom with others to help them become stronger and more focused, attentive, and planned educators.

5/25/2013 20:18:03It allows you to stay current on technology integration tools.
12
5/25/2013 20:23:45I have learned more from my PLN this year then any worshop!! So powerful to meet ppl like me that like to share the newest Ed ideas!! Workshops etc
13
5/25/2013 20:23:48Twitter has allowed me to collaborate with other educators and business people outside my school, making my classroom experiences more relevant to students. Through Twitter I've found a way to get my students' experiment on the International Space Station, brought a NY Times best selling author to my school, and collaborated with a national educational consultant. All these experiences, in my first year of Twitter use, have brought many valuable experiences into my classroom

@MrStaubSTEM
14
5/25/2013 20:24:44You can personalize your own PD. How many meetings have you sat through where someone presented information that didn't meet your needs? With Twitter you can have 24/7 PD from experts in the field. It has allowed me to stay current and sense changes in education before my colleagues. Just do it.
15
5/25/2013 20:26:48If two minds are better then one, image the potential of a hundred minds.
16
5/25/2013 20:27:54Two words: FREE PD
17
5/25/2013 20:28:22I had several twitter conversations with Todd Whittaker while reading his books WGPDD and Shifting the Monkey. I could have paid hundreds of dollars to hear Todd speak and not ever have had dialogued. The cost to tweet = free! Twitter is an excellent way to extending my professional thinking and learning.
18
5/25/2013 20:30:13It's professional learning & ideas at your finger tips. You customize what you want to learn (by building your PLN) and how much time you want to spend learning. Twitter has articles, research, ideas, and people to learn from.
19
5/25/2013 20:31:25Twitter is the #1 source of personalized PD. Ed Chats take place each night. Participating in chats broadens knowledge and perspective. I love twitter for the endless resources and the constant PLN support. With twitter I'm not on an "island" any longer.
20
5/25/2013 20:38:48Remember that book "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" ... that's kinda like what joining Twitter is for an educator.
21
5/25/2013 20:39:55Twitter connects educators from every corner of the world. Never before have we had the opportunity to share, learn and collaborate with so many of our colleagues at any time on any day.
22
5/25/2013 20:39:57Twitter is the best pro-d I've ever found! Connecting with amazing educators around the world is awesome and inspiring. If we want to create change in education we need to share our learning with as many people as possible; Twitter allows us to do this effectively as well as develop meaningful relationships.
23
5/25/2013 20:42:42To connect with other educators all over the world and open up their minds to what is possible in their own school. Twitter had been the best professional development I have ever reviewed.

@dgoble2001
24
5/25/2013 20:45:04I have learned more in the last year using Twitter than I have from any PD I have attended in the last 10 I've been teaching.
25
5/25/2013 20:45:25Educations should join Twitter to be connected with like-minded people who share a passion for teaching and learning, and who succinctly offer jewels of wisdom of inspiration.
26
5/25/2013 20:46:34Because it is the best, most self-appropriate PD you can find. It may take some time, but you will find a network of educators with whom you can share thoughts, ideas, lessons, and let them blossom. The best classroom ideas I find, now all come from twitter friends.
27
5/25/2013 20:46:58Twitter offers daily professional development, support, connections, and inspiration. It takes the educator out of the box of what can be an isolated classroom into a world of possibilities. It helps the educator reflect on how different personalities make social connections which hopefully helps that educator better understand the students social connections.

5/25/2013 20:47:48Discovered so many awesome resources and have been inspired by amazing educators.
31
5/25/2013 20:49:26Sharing of ideas, on-demand access to hundreds (thousands) of like-minded professionals, inspiration, motivation
32
5/25/2013 20:49:39To build their PLN, to learn from others, to grow in ways they cannot within their school/county/district, to be able to ask a question and engage in dialog with peers
33
5/25/2013 20:50:04I get great ideas from my Twitter PLN.
34
5/25/2013 20:50:15There is no better way to connect and collaborate with fellow educators. Fantastic for sharing resources and ideas. The best PD out there! Evolved more as a teacher after a year on Twitter than 5 previous years combined!
35
5/25/2013 20:50:30@andre_meadows
I use it to find people that are as passionate about education as I am. We share ideas and make each other greater learners !
36
5/25/2013 20:51:28Twitter is one of the best tools for professional development.
37
5/25/2013 20:51:38Right now, I'm having a conversation with at least 5 teachers about the trouble with innovation in math. We're sharing links of bad ideas as well as great ideas. We've even thrown in a bit of old school humor discussing classrooms from "back in the day". During this conversation I've learned so much about what the ideal classroom and instruction should be and now I can take this back and share with my team of teachers. Where else could this happen??? Hence...Twitter
38
5/25/2013 20:52:16I've made more meaningful professional connections in the past 4 years on twitter than the previous 10 without it.
39
5/25/2013 20:54:27I twitter for PD that's available to me 365/24/7.
40
5/25/2013 20:56:35Allows you to individualize your Professional Development. You get to learn more in the areas that interest you the most about Education.
41
5/25/2013 20:57:34As a technology teacher I find it difficult sometimes to keep up with the ever-changing trends. Twitter has been a great way in helping to keep up with new trends in both education & technology. It's a great way to learn from others and stay in touch with a growing group of professionals.
42
5/25/2013 20:57:37Knowledge, resources, community and unity. Also the power of sharing experience and stories.
43
5/25/2013 20:58:11I joined the PLN of twitter just three short on this ago. I was just in time. My spirt was seeking something my district, to school could provide, deep meaningful and rich conversations. My PLN to only provided me with ideas, they provided encouragement to finish strong. You are familiar with the story of the quacking geese in flight, maybe ducks do it too, they quack to encourage the lead flyer, but they also take turns at leading. That holds true for the Twitter PLN as well. Please join us as we fly. Sometimes, we know where we are going, sometimes we don't but we take refuge with others who know the way and will lead us when we don't. We quack very loud, teachers never stop chatting. We care for each others experience even if we never meet this side of Heaven face to face because at the end of it all, end of the day, end of the year, end of our career, it is about the kids. We are here, not just because we love our jobs, we love our students and above all, we Love learning. A great teacher never stops learning. Respectfully Submitted, Kimberly of Isanti, MN
44
5/25/2013 20:58:31Teachers collaborate students collaborate all learn
45
5/25/2013 20:58:57Educators should join Twitter because of the wealth of knowledge that is shared freely between educators. It provides an amazing opportunity to: network with fellow educators, share ideas, invite collaboration between classrooms, and bring the global community into your personal/professional environment. It's free PD held when it is convenient for you!
46
5/25/2013 21:00:44Educators should join Twitter to get inspiration and information from teachers that have similar interests and passions as they do. It's a powerful source of information and resources for building lessons, collaborating on projects, implementing new instructional strategies. If they want to reach their 21st century students Twitter is their source for doing just that!
47
5/25/2013 21:02:30Its the fastest way to collect the latest ideas, strategies, and approaches in education. It allows you to have contacts all over the world to collaborate with!
48
5/25/2013 21:02:36Twitter is one of the best ways to keep learning turned on. Why wait for PD when it is constantly at your fingertips? Connecting to teachers and administrators across the country and globe broadens your idea of educating, gives you a chance to brainstorm with those outside your little 'pond,' and creates a supportive, positive forum for sharing and collaboration.
49
5/25/2013 21:04:32Twitter has allowed me to think and create with like minded in innovators from around the world. My feed is full of relevant reading from visionaries and the leaders if their field. As my PLN continues to grow, so does my thinking. Twitter has kept me constantly reaching beyond my grasp.
50
5/25/2013 21:05:10It is a great way to connect to thinkers in your field and outside your field. In the 21st century, it takes making connections across contexts to solve the challenges we face in educating children living in poverty.
51
5/25/2013 21:05:54Twitter has allowed me to think and create with like minded in innovators from around the world. My feed is full of relevant reading from visionaries and the leaders if their field. As my PLN continues to grow, so does my thinking. Twitter has kept me constantly reaching beyond my grasp. @mwmedvinsky
52
5/25/2013 21:06:25How else can you keep up in such a compact way on what the Kardashians are doing? 140 characters take a lot less time than those entertainment TV shows.

Seriously, I think it's access. It's very easy to find out what is on the minds of some of the great thinkers by following them.
53
5/25/2013 21:11:44Because it connects you to the real world. Not only do I find answers to my questions, I find questions I had not even thought of yet. And last, it's addictively engaging!
54
5/25/2013 21:17:38I found that I found the most information and the most networking connections via Twitter. It's easier to find and connect to the leading minds in the industry, and in some cases, even talk with those leaders directly!
55
5/25/2013 21:19:00Because of the awesome ideas being generated by brave and positive voices of educators across the world. Wait, did I use more than 140 characters?

Because when you only have 140 characters, you need to refine your message.

Because when you follow people across the world, the world gets smaller and we all matter more.

Because when kids follow me at @mapowell I can tailor my message and information to them.

Because when I tweet from @marciarpowell, I can ask questions and learn from others in a different role.

Twitter really has rocked my world and my learning.
56
5/25/2013 21:21:18It's a personalized professional development that you can open and close at will. I've learned more from twitter in the last month than in
all of my professional development.
57
5/25/2013 21:24:47Through twitter I create global connections with educators not only for my own benefit but also my students'. Being able to ask advice from other educators and learn from others sharing has made me feel a lot less isolated as a teacher in a remote town. It's become an integral search tool as well, being able to ask questions of real people and receive responses from real people and educators who know what I'm talking about.
58
5/25/2013 21:27:28From my experiences, twitter has opened up a whole new meaning to professional development. You can find info & PD on any topic at any time and learn from professionals across the world. In a nation where education is changing rapidly, and the ability for information to be exchanged literally in seconds from anywhere in the world, I think professionals who do not begin to use these forms of communication will find themselves behind and increasingly frustrated. I see it in the schools I work in every day.

5/25/2013 21:27:47it is quick, up to the minute and easy
60
5/25/2013 21:28:30Twitter lacks the personal inanities of Facebook. Twitter allows you to create your own professional learning ... It's almost the conference that you build to your own personal needs.
Especially great for teachers working in isolated communities or, as was the case for me, as the only teacher of a subject within a school. Twitter should be an absolute must for school administrators; show your wider school community that you are an "active champion" of effective social media use.
Simon McKenzie @connectedtchr
61
5/25/2013 21:29:15Twitter is a GREAT place to learn from educators, administrators, authors and many others. Reading and discussing what is best for students from the folks in my PLN gives me sooo much energy. I have learned more in the last 4 months since I became active on Twitter. I am leading a Twitter session for the teachers at my school this summer and I am so excited for them to start learning!
62
5/25/2013 21:33:34Because Twitter opens the doors to learning. You have the opportunity to learn and interact with educators and learners from around the world. It's a great PD connection and building your personal learning network connects you to resources (text, video & people). It was through twitter that I had the opportunity to Skype in with and meet an educator. Through Skype he presented to a group of teachers that I was presenting to! It's also a great way to connect with student. In my Bio 30 class, all student cell phones were connected to twitter. Each time that I tweeted, student received a text message with links to my website, blog and YouTube channel. It was a great way to communicate with my students.

Because if it wasn't for Twitter I wouldn't be able to contribute to this discussion because I wouldn't have known it was happening!
- Stephanie from Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Canada

63
5/25/2013 21:35:53Although PLNs are in our buildings and boards, Twitter allows educators to reach out beyond the walls, and district boundaries to connect with others around the world. Sharing ideas with others who may have similar situations in far away places and some in very different situations, allows us to open our minds and broaden our experiences.
64
5/25/2013 21:36:32Twitter has expanded my professional learning network.
I have Instant access to experts in all areas of Education who inspire me, challenge me, & remind me daily what amazing work is going on in education! Twitter has connected me with educators I now consider friends & mentors. What an AMAZING tool we have.......Let's all work to grow our educational PLN on Twitter- Together we all get better!
65
5/25/2013 21:40:27I already submitted a reply, but I had one more thought:

Part of where we're moving in education is to empower our professionals in the classroom, schools, and districts. We are also working to empower students to lead in their learning. Knowledge does equal power for adults and kids so through using forums and avenues designed to provide efficient communication of ideas, resources, support, etc., twitter becomes one of the best ways to empower educators.

5/25/2013 21:50:05Creates the opportunity to collaborate with educators from all over the world. You can receive instant feedback and gain great ideas from others.
67
5/25/2013 21:50:13Twitter represents a wide-open window to the world that is open 24 hours a day that can be shared by everyone. Fantastic source of Professional Development!
68
5/25/2013 21:56:11If collaboration is the key to professional growth, then twitter is a must for educators. It opens doors of collaboration not just within the building, but around the globe. It is anywhere, anytime opportunity to learn and share.
69
5/25/2013 21:57:00Teachers should use twitter because it is the most underutilized form of professional development out there right now. You can engage in whatever your interests are whenever you want. I have learned more on Twitter in the last year than I did in any of my admin classes. Amazing to learn and connect with people across the world.
70
5/25/2013 21:57:58No need to attend boring conferences, your professional development can take place in your own home via Twitter!
71
5/25/2013 22:01:04It's the best PD ever....thought provoking, collaborative and helps me grow as a learner. I'm smarter when I read and share 140 characters with people who care as much about education as I do.
72
5/25/2013 22:01:55Why? I can explain a little bit more here than on Twitter. Last January I watched some EVO webinars and Graham Stanley, whom I really admire among others, convinced me! As simple as that. Twitter in Argentina, my home country, is all about politics, gossips and football=soccer. I just joined to be better connected to some other educators and get quick updates although I do need a Smartphone. I´m still checking on my laptop :-(. Hope this helps!
73
5/25/2013 22:08:02Twitter personalizes life-long learning for every connected educator seeking guidance, direction, mentoring, examples, and common forums. Furthermore, twitter fosters deprivatization, transparency, & urgency for improved educational practices.

5/25/2013 22:13:42Twitter is AWESOME!!! I have received more meaningful (and useful) professional development in the last few months on twitter than in years of traditional PD. I urge all teachers, administrators and parents to join twitter as soon as they can!

76
5/25/2013 22:30:29Twitter provides non-stop PD from amazing educational resources and educators. Twitter allows one to personalize PD to meet their needs and allows for tremendous collaboration, sharing, and learning to take place! The best thing I did for myself this year was to join Twitter!
77
5/25/2013 22:58:30The ideas are endless. The educators in your PLN support risk and provide support. Learning never stops. I have implemented multiple activities in my room that I've found on Twitter!
78
5/25/2013 22:59:13Twitter is my one stop shop for on the go for professional development recently. I can jump on Twitter, read up on an array of ed related topics, send a few tweets sharing a post, reaction, or idea of my own, and connect with other educators who are equally as passionate about student success.

5/25/2013 23:28:11Twitter has become my 'superpower' as a teacher. It is a way for me to burst out of my boundaries and get connected to people that are interested in the things I want to learn. These people are passionate, excited and very smart. It have transformed me from Clark Kent stuck in Smallville, to SuperMan flying high and able to stay ahead of the curve!!
83
5/25/2013 23:49:45@twitter brings together all reasons to avoid chatter, and to get to a point, thus providing a chance for finding and sharing ample short and impactful points!

(The beauty comes from practice at restating points in 140 or less characters!)
84
5/25/2013 23:58:46When you follow those who are in your field, you gain an unlimited amount of ideas that fuel everything you do. The pace of idea sharing and things you can implement instantly will make anyone a better leader and teacher!
As new Common Core standards arise, it will be a tool to help teachers in all states work through issues.

86
5/26/2013 0:06:15Connect with other educators across the country to get different perspectives and ideas. When you stay within your building or district, you are closing yourself off to a world of PD. I've learned so much more from Twitter than I have from years of district PD.
87
5/26/2013 0:33:11It is an open forum for educators across the country to collaborate and problem solve.

5/26/2013 5:58:25It is targeted PD when you want it. My PLN teaches me something new every weekend. Keeps me fresh and lifts me up when needed.
90
5/26/2013 7:02:26Twitter puts the knowledge, experiences, and resources of hundreds of educators at my fingertips. I am able to connect with people I normally might not have access to. My Twitter PLN includes educators, educational leaders, and tech specialists from around the world.
91
5/26/2013 7:07:05You can connect and learn from those around the World! Your PD no longer has limitations or restrictions! @ColinWikan

5/26/2013 7:10:47Join Twitter because the learning is on-going, any time, focused, and you can pick the brains of people from around the country and around the world. The world gets small with Twitter but your ability to affect change gets very large. Enjoy! @mmatp

5/26/2013 7:41:55Bill, I'm working on the same thing for a mid-June presentation. Here's a list of some articles that I've saved from Twitter about the power of this tool: http://tigerpd.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html
95
5/26/2013 8:39:01For this, this is one of the greatest benefits of using Twitter as an educator. I have been connected to other educators from my content area from all over the world. We have shared ideas, frustrations, and motivation. It has expanded my role as an educator. @Motexan31Springfield, MOAsst. Principal
96
5/26/2013 8:41:46Twitter is an amazing place. The PD opportunities never end. One can follow numerous people and hashtags. Asking questions and sharing ideas is encouraged. It helps to know that others have the same challenges, successes, and concerns. We are not alone.@skjenkinsWarrensburg, MOUniversity instructor and Labs manager
97
5/26/2013 8:46:06Twitter is chock full of amazing, ongoing, differentiated and flexible PD for educators - on your schedule.@sguditusBoston, MAAssistant Principal
98
5/26/2013 8:49:491. Twitter learning is free
2. Twitter learning has no schedule. If you miss a chat you can read the posts later
3. Twitter learning extends beyond your own building or district
4. Twitter learning can occur anywhere...at the soccer field or your bed!
5. Twitter learning is whatever subject you want to focus on
6. Twitter presents new topics you've never even thought of before
7. Twitter inspires teachers to learn by providing instant information. I can read something and immediately use it in my classroom
8. I feel valued when other educators retweet my ideas or give me compliments.

5/26/2013 8:50:21Twitter has opened a whole new world for me. About a year ago, I was playing around with Twitter, not knowing what I was doing, and came upon #ptchat I have to credit Joe Mazza to getting me on board with twitter. He was doing a pd for his adminstrative team and I chimed in during the chat as well as other, and then I was hooked. Then came #satchat That launched last year. WOW!! Did that take off. Word of mouth and so many twitter friends later is awesome. It is the fastest professional development ever and it's free!! The only downside is I like face to face, but sooner or later, I know I will meet some of my PLN somewhere! I am an old dog, been a principal for 15 years, and this has been the best pd ever and you are in communication with folks like Todd Whitaker, Paul Bambrick-Santoyo, Daniel Pink, you name it.
