He served as Head of School at The Jacob Pressman Academy of Temple Beth Am in Los Angeles, California, from 2001 - 2013. Mitch earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Columbia University in 1990. He spent his junior year at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1991, he earned a Masters Degree in Judaic Studies at Jewish Theological Seminary of America. From 1991 to 1992, he worked in Washington, DC, as a Legislative Assistant at the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism. He became a Judaic Studies Teacher at the Solomon Schechter High School of New York in 1996 and held the position through 1999. During this period, Mitch undertook a rabbinics program at the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), achieving rabbinic ordination in 1999. He went on to earn his Doctor of Education degree at the Wm. Davidson Graduate School of Education of JTS in 2001. In 2002 he was certified at the Principal’s Center at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Since 2008, Mitch has served at the national level on the Board of the Schechter Day School Network. Mitch also is on the board of MERCAZ, USA. Mitch has been a Mentor in the Day School Leadership Training Institute since 2011. Mitch is the author of numerous articles and essays on curriculum and teaching which have appeared in the Journal of Jewish Education and other educational publications. Since 2000, he has presented regularly at the Conference of the Network for Research in Jewish Education and at the Conference of the Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education (PEJE). He is currently serving as Co-chair of the Israel Education Panel for the Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education (CASJE), a pilot project connecting researchers, practitioners, and philanthropists in the field of Jewish education, and a member of the CASJE Advisory Board.
