Carolina Beach State Park

YesMust stay on or near the tent pad in the campground.

Can rent a group camp area (there are 2) for $13 - up to 6 hammockers without extra charge. Plenty of good trees and a pit toilet. Site 2 better for hammocks. These sites are about a 1/4 mi. hike from the parking area. - PappyAmos, Feb 2014.

Cliffs of the Neuse State ParkYesYesYesNoThere are several sites in the family campground that are hammock friendly.Group Sites 1,2 and 3 are real nice with lots of trees but road to get to group site is a PITA. While a 2 wheel drive vehilce can make it, I would be worried about driving on this dirt road after a heavy rain as it is one lane with very limited.places to pull over. Large parking area. Camp sites less than 100 feet from parking area. Pit toliet, no showers or sinks. Water at camp sites, Pleanty of picnic tables with a rock fire ring and steel cooking ring., Site 4 would be a creek as all the water in the area will be flowing thru it after a rain..

Pettigrew State ParkYesYesYesNoYou will need stands at the family camp sites as there are not any suitable trees. Restooms have showers. If plannig on camping here in the winter time, check with park staff as they close down the restrooms due to cold and you will have to use restooms at park office ( no showers ).The group side has very limited parking ( like 2 cars ) and if it rains it looks like the place will be a mud hole. Has a pit toliet and a water source.

Stone Mountain State ParkYesYesYesSomeBackcountry camping has lots of trees. Family campground has several sites that are hammock friendlyHike in camping starts strenuous and gets easy to A after an initial gravel hill climb. Site A is about 1 mile in and has a large area for a group hang with immediate water access. B,C,D are all on an uphill hike. C and D get strenuous, but not difficult and are the only sites without direct water access. E is the only site that lacks suitable trees. Site F usually requires a muddy hike though somewhat dense sections. -Wyker

William B. Umstead State ParkYesYesYesNoHung over near Reedy Creek Lake for a long afternoon.

Park is right next to Raleigh / Durham Airport. Campground is right off the end of one of the runways. - PappyAmos
Most sites at family campground are hammock friendly. While park staff said we had to set up over tent pads, Park Ranger said he did not care if we hung from trees. No need to set alarm clock as jets taking off and landing early in AM will wake you up.
