One section of this course was taught and it was assessed using the final exam. Final Grades were distributed as follows:
6 A's, 2 B's, 2 INC's, and 1 WU
(Students with INC and WU grades are NOT included in this assessment)Prove theorems about open sets, unions and intersections in metric spaces.Prove the Euclidean Geometry Theorems for similar, congruent and right triangles.Prove statements about parallelograms, circles, and the coordinate plane.Identify and describe the main properties of hyperbolic and spherical geometry.Prove theorems about symmetries and transformations. Identify the properties of solid Euclidean Geometry.E. State and apply mathematical definitions and theorems F. Prove fundamental theoremsG. Construct and present a rigorous mathematical argument

The instructor lectured less than 5 classes (in total) all semester. Instead, students completed detailed worksheets on a nightly basis and presented their solutions in class. For this reason, weaker students with exceptional participation were able to secure high final grades despite low final exam scores. Course Outcome 1Course Outcome 2Course Outcome 3Course Outcome 4Course Outcome 5Course Outcome 6The final exam included many types of problems: stating definitions, applying results, proving theorems, and performing computations. Each question had several parts pertaining to the indicated topic. Overall, I was surprised and pleased with the results. Students studied hard, reviewed the course material, and practiced the problems that were given to them during the semester. The high assessment results reflect the time, effort, and hard work that the students put into the class all semester. Major Outcome EMajor Outcome FMajor Outcome FThroughout the semester, students were expected to memorize important definitions and recall the proofs of foundational results in Euclidean Geometry -- these skills were considered essential for any future high school math teacher. Interestingly, students seemed to have the most difficulty recalling precise definitions. Though students are familiar with the vocabulary and the geometric objects, they seem to have difficulty remembering the small, but important, details.

Plans To Adjust The Course
20
In the future, student presentations cannot hold as much weight on a student's grade as they did this semester. Though student participation is important and will be encouraged, a student's final grade should better reflect how well they can complete the course objectives. In addition, more should be done throughout the semester to encourage students to memorize precise definitions. It might be possible to do this by including quick vocabulary quizzes throughout the semester. Overall, though, I think that having student presentations (in place of lecture) had a positive affect on student performance. Though large class size might not allow for such a set-up every semester, student presentations should remain as apart of the class.
