Mentos & Soda Experiment 3 - The Perfect Recipe
2
Background:
3
The CO2 that is dissolved in solution in soda can be released by adding a low-surface energy agent, such as Mentos. The liquid molecules are attracted the surface of the low-surface-energy agent, leaving the dissolved CO2 molecules free to escape the grasp of the liquid molecules.
4
In experiments 1 and 2 we found the best soda to be Pepsi Max and the best candy to be Mint Mentos
5
Goals:
6
Verify if Pepsi Max is indeed better than it's close contenders, Diet Pepsi and Diet Pepsi Wild Cherry
7
Determine the effect of adding more mentos
8
Determine the effect of whole, smashed, or chopped mentos
9
Determine if temperature is a significant factor. Also, is the reaction exothermic or endothermic?
