Tuesday, 8/07/20125 hours (4 PM - 9 PM)I met up with one of my mentors, Ernest Martinez. He's also the DJ known as Ernie D on Radio Disney. Ernest also introduced me to his Live Show Producer, Sean. I shadowed Ernie and Sean for their last half hour before Ernie introduced me to Candice and Gonzo, who were the next DJ and Producer to take over for the night shift. Candice and Gonzo then elaborated on their responsibilities regarding their job. I learned about my main topic, which is being a Radio DJ, which is also known as an "On-Air Talent". "On-Air Talents" focus on interacting with listeners, handling on-air contests, and work with the producers to come up with fun topics to talk about during a show that will entertain the audience. The DJ also has to watch over the tight schedule the show has, which means that songs, ads, interviews, and contests have to be started and ended on time. They also have to interact with listeners by taking requests, and handing out prizes from contests. When awarding prizes, Candace would record the conversations she had with the winner to not only announce the contest being over, but to use the listener's reaction as a way to promote the station and to encourage to listen for another chance.5 hours

Friday, 8/10/125 hours (3 PM - 8 PM) On my second day, I was also curious to see as too what the Studio Supervisor and the Live Show Producer do on a regular day. First, I shadowed Miguel, the Studio Supervisor. Miguel showed me the programs he used to to edit the Top 30 Countdown that's played every weekend on Radio Disney. He uses Pro Tools, an Apple program to about 14 slots of audio to make sure the show plays smoothly. He also supervises the technology used all over the studio, so if in case something goes wrong, he can fix most problems, unless there's something serious with the equipment. When something goes really bad, he calls one of the technicians who work in the building to fix it up. Miguel, along with Candace and Ernie showed me how to work with another program, called Vox Pro. Vox Pro is used for only caller and DJ interaction. That's because it only uses to slots for audio, one being the DJ and the other being the listener. Right after, I went back to the main studio to learn about what Live Show Producers do. Gonzo showed me how he works with Candice to not only come up with good topics, but to also find contest winners, callers who want to talk to the DJ about the topic, and take requests from all over the nation. Gonzo also showed me about how Candice and he use social networking to reach out to their teen audience. They both said that it helps a lot with building a brand or a personality in the radio, TV, or music businesses. I finished the day learning about their demographic and their style of music. Radio Disney focuses on kids and teens between the ages of 9-14 years old. Their audience has always been mostly girls, but they also try to appeal to the male audience in between those ages as well. Topics always have to be as gender neutral as possible because of the possibility of losing listeners from both sides.10 hours
