I’m Michael, I’m Brenden.

Join us and together we’ll dig deeper into the silver-screen classics of yesteryear as well as the box-office hits of today, we’ll take a closer look at the stories they tell, and see if we find the face of Jesus looking back.

We’re gonna explore the deeper meanings of these films; their plots and their twists; the characters and their choices; and how we can relate them to the gospel of salvation, and ultimately our Christian walk.

BLTFRODO, SAMWISE, SMEAGOL, and Meeting Others Halfway

Scene 1: Smeagol has promised to take Frodo and Samwise to the Black Gate, and on the way there, Samwise antagonizes Smeagol by calling him names and making fun of him. Frodo, however, stands up to Samwise on Smeagol's behalf. [Play SFX #1] Gollum (the world) is still worth saving.

Scene 2: Samwise has just saved Frodo from the incoming Ringwraith. He then delivers a monologue in which he reveals a new understanding of this world. [Play SFX #2].

Samwise now sees the world as in need of saving (exempllified by Smeagol), and he will now operate with that in mind. Likewise, when we come to the point where we realize that the world needs saving, we'll start operating on that level.		John 21:15-19: If you love me, feed my sheep.

mhFRODO AS THE HIGH PRIEST/CHRIST-FIGURE

Types and Shadows. Not the substance, but rather what is created when the light shines on the actual thing.

Lev. 16 and The Scapegoat (Day Of Atonement Offerings) = Two goats: sin offering (YAHWEH’S) and scapegoat (Azazel - ‘aza’zel).

“Azazel” - 4 possible meanings: ‘Go away goat,’ ‘the goat that departs’, ’scapegoat,’ // ‘to banish, remove,’ i.e. ‘entire removal’ // most common view is the proper name of a demon (perhaps even the Devil himself) // ‘mighty goat,’ marking a close association with the ‘goat demons’ of the desert.

Atonement - The root word means “to cover over”, and is used to describe how Noah covered the ark with pitch.

It is not synonymous with "forgiveness." It is business; paying a ransom - "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭20‬:‭28‬ NET)		Is. 53:5 NET

He was wounded because of a our rebellious deeds,
crushed because of our sins;
he endured punishment that made us well;
because of his wounds we have been healed.

I really enjoyed your latest podcast FCC40 Finding Christ in the Fellowship of the Ring! Truly it made me long for the days of Middle Earth Minutes podcasts, but that is a topic for another day.

To me, one of the more human moments in the movie was when the company was lost in Moria waiting for Gandalf to get his bearings, sitting for a while (kind of like the disciples sitting at Jesus’ feet being taught) and we have this powerful statement from Gandalf:
“...all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us “

In the “Parable of the Wise Steward” Christ said something not unlike that or rather that should be considered with it:
"To whomever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom much was entrusted, of him more will be asked." Luke 12:48. As a Christian I am reminded to be about my Father’s business and not wasting time with unprofitable things (Note: GCTN podcasts do not fall in that category). Like the steward, we will all one day give an account for ourselves. Jesus makes his message heard to us and says now it is up to you to decide what to do with the time that is given you.

At the same time Gandalf gave us that sage advice he admonishes Frodo:
“Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement.”

This is such an excellent reminder that God is in control and sees the evil in this world, but stays his hand of judgment which we also have benefitted from when we were in the grasp of sin just as Gollum is ensnared by the power of the Ring. I really hope this made some sense.

FirstShowing.net - WILL THE WEB-SLINGER JOIN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE FOR ‘AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?? ===

Remember the big Sony Pictures hack that happened late last year? Yeah, well many things were revealed that shouldn’t have been. One is that Marvel Studio had been in talks with Sony about getting Spider-Man back in the family, so to speak. Namely to get Peter Parker to appear in Captain America: Civil War - seeing as how he is an integral part of that storyline - but alas, those talks fell through - though Spidey could have a cameo. However, Latino Review is saying that Spider-Man will enter the Marvel cinematic universe in The Avengers: Infinity War - Part I. Apparently the explanation as to how this all makes sense in the scheme of Phase Three is filled with many much spoilers. So If you want to read more about that follow the link in the show notes. BLTComing down from the hype of the blockbuster adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel GONE GIRL, the author along with director David Fincher and actor Ben Affleck are reuniting to remake the 1951 Hitchcock classic Strangers on a Train.

Each of this powerhouse trio would take on their respective roles: Fincher will direct, Flynn will draft the screenplay, and Affleck would star as the leading male (in the original, a well-to-do tennis star meets a charming psychopath...while on a train).
