***Thank you all for your support of your children and our classroom! Parent volunteers truly make a big difference, not only by helping our classroom run more smoothly, but also by adding to an environment of community support and involvement. Here is an information page to find out what assignments are needed and what to expect! I love to have parent volunteers in the class, and if there is ever anything else you feel you could contribute to our classroom, please feel free to email me any time! cfredrickson@providencehall.com
***To see our complete classroom schedule, scroll below the sign-up categories!***
1) To find a specific month or volunteer sheet, click on a sheet at the bottom of the page
2) Type your name next to a number to sign up.
3) If you know you can sign up for something on a regular weekly basis, please just email me and I will remove a slot from the volunteer calendar so you don't have to type in your name every week, and we'll just count on you to be there.
4) Sign up categories (all are needed volunteer slots, but I listed them from highest priority first):

a) Spelling Tests: On Fridays, we need a parent to help by pulling spelling groups in the hall for their test. Just grab a folder, call the names of the students on the folder, and have them bring a pencil & something to write on. Please read the word, then use it in a sentence, then repeat the word again. As with spelling sorts, please help them maintain respectful hallway behavior expectations to avoid disrupting other classes, including sitting in a half circle around you and raising hands for questions.
4
b) Spelling Sorts: on the first day of the week during independent study, students meet in their spelling groups to sort their words, make connections as to why the words are sorted the way they are, and to identify especially tricky ones, such as homophones. You will take a folder (the students names are written on the outside), the book that group is on (also written on the folder), and call the students to work on the lesson from the book in the hall. Please also help them maintain respectful hallway behavior expectations to avoid disrupting other classes, including sitting in a half circle around you, and raising hands for questions.
5
c) Friday Fun: As an incentive to turn in all work on time, on Fridays, students with all their class and homework turned in get an extra 20 minutes of "Friday Fun." We need a parent that is willing to supervise students who have earned "Friday Fun" by supervising them outside on the playground, in the computer lab, or in the hallway as they play board games. From 1:05-1:35.
6
d) IB Read Aloud: Please select a picture book to read to the students that demonstrates the IB profile attribute of the month. If you need ideas, the following website has some good ideas: http://pyplibrary.wikispaces.com/. If you look to the left, there is list of the Learner Profile attributes. Click on an attribute and you will find a whole list of suggested books. You may follow the book with a short discussion and/or activity, but please keep within the time frame!
7
e) Fluency: you will come in during independent study and find the clipboard with the list of students who need fluency help, the fluency cards, and the stopwatch located in the parent volunteer box. Take the child out in the hall and use the card they are on (see the list) and talk to the child about what they did last and what they feel they can try today (if you do one card and the child can do all the words quite easily, feel free to have him/her try something harder). Time the student and encourage him/her to beat his last time as he tries it 2-3 times. After working with the child, please mark next to his/her name on the list the date and which list you mainly worked on so the next parent has an idea where to start (please be sure to include the list number and whether you worked on words or phrases).
