AshleyMary Ellen Fryem.frye@frontier.comRochester, NYUSAMDSHBlue12/12/20121/21/20137521GA4/4/2013Snoring, loud breath sounds, increased body size, increased head size, huge appetite, excessive drinking, excessive peeing, not using the litter box, neuropathy rear legs, lethargy, hiding. Lantus. Currently 9units twice a day. Just added R Insullin .5 units twice a day to start. Went OTJ spontaneously.NoAshley went OTR in January of 2013 spontaneously. However his condition deteriorated and he develped severe diabetic neuopathy in all four legs and was unable to walk. He was hiding in my bedroom closet and I made an appointment to have him euthanized but then changed my mind when I saw a spark of life and took him to Veterinary Specialists here in Rochester. The internist who saw him REFUSED to believe he had acromegaly despite his 521 IGF and other symptoms because "he did not look like he had acromegaly" and because he suddenly went OTJ.. They did an ultrasound which revealed severe organomegaly in liver, heart, kidneys. The kidneys had advanced portal damage and no longer even resembled kidneys. They suggested I test Ashley for acute renal failure. I did not like the internists arrogant attitude and refusal to discuss my thoughts and concerns so I took Ashley to my former (and now current) vet who redid the ultra-sound and confirmed the results. The test for acute renal failure was negative however his renal numbers were very bad. Ashley remained OTJ and over the next two months his neuopathy improved with supportive care. I took him back to my vet for a recheck and he was amazed at how much better Ashley looked and he was encouraged. He redid the renal panel expecting improvement but the results were very very bad. Ashley died April 4, 2013 when (it is believed) his kidneys shut down. RIP Ashley.11/15/2014

As of 3/2009 renal values high (early stage). Tested for auto insulin antibodies IAA same time as IGF-1. Result = 0. Buckwheat has noisy breathing/snoring while sleeping. It seems it gets worse the older he gets. He has always been a big cat with large paws and head and we have not noticed any significant changes.Currently on Levemir (8/30/09) 12U BID. Started using R 8/15/09. Originally on PZI Vet and then Lantus.http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p8XrdQO76jraLCCP5UlP7Vw&hl=enN/ABuckwheat is a Maine Coon who was the last kitten from the last litter of Maine Coons that we bred. He has always been a big cat with large paws, head and stocky bone structure. He currently weighs 21.5 lbs. (9/1/09) which is an increase of 1 lb. since 4/16/09. He is definitely a "gentle giant" and a very sweet boy. In February of 2008 he became increasingly harder to regulate. He eventually was being dosed with 6U of PZI Vet before going on Lantus in May 2008. He was switched to Levemir 12/11/08 beginning with 4U BID and currently 12U BID (8/30/09) and is on .75R if 250 or over.He is regularly checked for ketones and has only had a trace in February 2008. He does not squat to pee but uses a spraying stance and occasionally goes "over the edge" of the litter box. Currently he's being dosed with 3 ML BID Lactulose for constipation (8/29/09). Buckwheat has never been an overly active cat and is pretty much a lovable slug. He can run when he wants to and still jumps on the bed and the kitchen island where he is tested, shot and fed.Currently 21.5 lbs. (9/1/09) but can range from 18-22 lbs. He is up 1 lb. since 4/16/09.Use FortiFlora if on antibiotics.Friskes Special Diet and Merrick. Working to keep the carbs, phosphorous, fats and protein at lower levels. Fancy Feast gluten free/low carb is gradually being eliminated from his diet to see if his renal values come down.Insulin and currently (4/2009) Lactulose for constipation. We are watching how Buckwheat's numbers correspond to cooler weather. The temperature overnight on 9/1/09 dropped to 60º and his preshot was 170 and he stayed under the renal threshold even with a trip to the vet for a physical. Vet is asking us to track this idea of lower BGs as the weather becomes cooler. Updated 9/2//09.

GeorgeLynnette Carrhousecat@blueyonder.co.ukKentUKMOctober 2006July 2007Estimated 5 years< 2000ActiveN/ANoisy breathing, deterioration of vision, diabetes.Varies At the moment George is on 16 units twice a day of Glargine Lantus. Has been up to 24 units twice a day.YESGeorge had a 5 week course of radiotherapy July/August 2007. There has been no change in his condition unfortunately.George is a large cat, and very broad across his nose. He has a front leg missing. He lost his leg shortly before I took him on in a RTA. He is a rescue cat and was picked up as a stray. He is currently included in a trial at the RVC and has recently started having monthly injections of a human drug called Lanreotide. This is not licensed for use in cats and don't know if it ever will be but is worth trying. Injection is once a month for 6 months. So far George has been the same but today he has very low BGs compared to what we usually get!! So fingers crossed this could be a good sign. George has his next shot in two days!George will sometimes urinate or poo outside his tray. Not sure if this is confusion or due to a deterioration in vision. Now have lino and paper down next to try just incase! George will sometimes turn around in a circle several time while settling and has hit his face a couple of times when jumping down. I have also noticed that he sometimes does not like his back legs to be touched and they also look thinner than they did. Will have to check and come back to you on that one!.None.Tinned food in jelly and Hills M/D biscuits.Glargine Lantus (Insulin)George had his CT scan bought forward as he was circling a lot more. Unfortunately the tumour had grown to 1.5cm. George would have had another 2 Lanreotide injections but it was obvious that the treatment is not working for him so withdrawn from the trial. This was in June. (2009) George has good and bad days but seems happy most of the time. He misses his litter tray now more often than not but we are taking each day as it comes and treasure any time we have left with him.
