6
List->FindFast from List to Find, just a couple of tapsPretty fast, a few more taps
7
FilteringNone/Found/Not Found, needs "Did Not Find"Able to hide found and disabled. Still would be nice if there was an attribute for "Did not find"
8
SortingDist/Name/Type etc. Maintains sort selection.Dist/Name/Type etc. Maintains sort selection, including reverse sorting
9
Refresh of SortUser Configurable, works good, never need manual refreshNeed to see how it behaves in real life
10
Speed/SmoothnessVery fast, also has "fast scroller". Does not slow with 1000+ caches in list4200 in one category, 3 minutes import, 30ish seconds to enable all. 10000 caches on screen is still fast on Dell Streak 7.
11
User-Generated in ListOnly imports in Cache DB, user-generated waypoints go into Waypoint listAll categories are treated equally, can add user-generated in any
12
Stay in Waypoint ListGoes from List to Cache back to List easyBack and forth in details/list works ifne
13
Searching WaypointsNo problemAvailable from Map screen only, need to add to Points screenNeeds to be available in more places, not just Map screen
14
Waypoint Maintenance
15
ImportingImports from GPX, ZIP of GPXs. No need to navigate around sdcard.Imports from GPX, ZIP of GPXs. Maintains location on sdcard, no heavy navigating.
16
Importing updatesUpdates existingF/DNF, waypoints, notes
17
Import SpeedQuite fast, 550 in 4 GPX in ZIP file in 17 seconds27 seconds for same file. But for some reason on phone this keeps failing? Imports nothing.
18
Maintain user dataF/DNF, waypoints, notesF/DNF, waypoints, notes
19
User-generated waypointsUnlimited, but separate from Cache Database. Only one Waypoint database.
Unlimited, in any category
20
Waypoint AveragingWorks great, runs as long as desired, shows delta, number of points, accuracy etcUse GPS Averaging, then from Locus app shows up to use, or use standalone.
21
Moving between categoriesNot possibleLittle tedious but works. Copying to another DB is pretty fast and that works, but then have to manually delete old entry.
22
Marking F/DNF/DNAQuick and easy from listHave to tap Details, Field Notes. Could have Long-Tap in list actions
23
Waypoint Waypoints (Parking, stages)Unlimited, and can associate with cache or not associated.Seems to be unlimited, waypoint icons seem to be limited. Connecting lines is a nice feature.
24
Remove/Move stale on importOptionally remove caches not imported for N days (to remove archived from list)Can sort by updated, can remove oldest as necessary. Enhancements coming in the future.Ability to automatically mark for deletion in future would be nice.
25
Import non-GC GPXSort of, into waypoint list. Limited.Seems to be pretty robust here.
26
Waypoint Actions
27
Nav by CompassWorks very wellSeems fine
28
Nav in-app by any Map TypeDraws overlay over ANY type map of driving path. Very useful.
Excellent road with (simple visual, no audio?) turn prompted driving, works on any map type. Stores length and even altitude info, graphs etc
29
Nav by Google MapsWorks very wellYes, via Waypoint Info->Gear->Maps
30
Nav by Google NavWorks very wellYes
31
Nav by Third PartyWorks great, any handler can pick it up. Waze etcYes, via Waypoint Info->Gear->Maps
32
Nav by RadarWorks, rarely useRadar App
33
See all detailsDetails are good, rendering if large images in description can sometimes make scrolling weirdSeems good
34
See logsUser selectable, can see 5, 10, 15 etcShows logs in GPX I assume
35
Decode hintsAutomatic or manualYes
36
Show in BrowserYes, comes in handyYes
37
Online LoggingCan log F/DNF/Comment/Maint/Archive via connector instantlyNoGeocaching for Locus might have this function in the near future
38
Field NotesYesYes
39
Quick "Mark As"Quickly mark as F/DNF in listHave to tap Details, Field Notes. Could have Long-Tap in list actions, or under Menu
40
Cache Hunting
41
Compass NavigationWorks very well, very importantSeems okay, but would like to be able to replace pitch/roll with Waypoint info
42
Switch btw Compass and MapWorks very well, and also very importantNo (immediately obvious) quick way to do this, needs it. Have to go back and forth with some things to switch between compass and map and I do this constantly. Resolved by adding Compass button on Map
Added Compass button to map
43
Overall Usability FindingVery quick and easy, don't need to fight with systemMore taps to go from launch to navigating to a particular cache, but usable
44
Visual Hunt IndicationsNone, would be nice to have some visual indication if I'm heading wrong wayNone, but low priority
45
Audio Hunt IndicationsNone, be nice to have indication of right direction, getting closer, near to a cache, etc type without holding phone all the timeFrequency or beep on distance, need to try this in action but sounds handy. One quick trial and it was a bit obnoxious, need to tune distances, volume..
46
Built-in Bluetooth supportNone, but works fine with market apps like Bluetooth GPS ProviderBuilt-in, but have not tried yet as I like using it globally with Bluetooth GPS Provider
47
Maps
48
In-app navigationDraws overlay over ANY type map of driving path. Very useful.
Car, bike, or walking, from OSM or CloudMade. Navigate button, Compute route, Fastest Car, Green Check, Guide On. Must delete track later, wish it could delete itself when done.
Could make this a little more streamlined to create and remove the track.
49
Offline Map CreationNone, no real caching at allGreat
50
Offline Map UseTiles with BCN, SQLite from Locus. Semi-slow to parse initially but quick once selected, easy to switch between Live/Offline, slow to switch between different OfflinesGreat
51
Online Maps (Google Street/Sat)YesWith Add-on
52
Online Maps (OSM)YesYes
53
Online Maps (Topo)YesYes
54
Show all waypoints or only waypoints associated with current cacheNice to see all waypoints associated with a cache/waypoint, as such as listed (or user generated) stages, parking, etc. And only see them if I have a cache selected, so they don't clutter the map.Can toggle categories on/of, but no way to see waypoints associated with a cache
55
Screen utilizationWorks well, large or small screen
56
In-Map FunctionsInteract with waypoints, change map types, zoom. No multitouch, fairly simpleRich map interface, customizable
57
Show All/Some/None CategoriesShow current Database + Waypoint DatabaseShow None, or some, or all
58
On the Fly
59
OTF Cache DownloadsYes, can download "Nearby" caches. Can be done with Geocaching 4 Locus app in market. Select waypoint (or address on map) and hit the Gear icon, G4L in list will launch.Handy, but only when I'm out of my areas I have PQs, prefer using my GPX
60
OTF Caches into DatabaseYes, can insert downloaded caches into DatabaseG4L can do this
61
OTF Cache UpdateYes, can update cache details OTFG4L cannot as far as I can tell, but it could load a more recent version perhaps.Very handy to have
62
OTF Cache LoggingYesG4L has this on the todo listNot a huge deal but handy to have. I usually log in browser at home.
63
Live MapYes, dynamically loads nearby caches into map viewNoneAgain, mainly handy out of my main area.
64
Puzzle Tools
65
Text or other number SolversMany different types built-inNoneFor me, non issue, only one I ever used was the Sun/Moon Rise/Set. GCC in market has TONS of these.
66
528 ft radius around cachesNoneBuilt into LocusCurrently a small bug, removing "temp" items does not clear, exiting app does though.
67
Mid-point solvingNoneBuilt into Locus
68
Draw linesNoneCan draw lines between points
69
Draw circlesNoneDraw circles around location or cache, arbitrary sizeOnly allows meter input, bug here IMO
70
ProjectionsFrom new or existing, create new waypointFrom new or existing, automatically creates new temporary waypoint. Slightly more confusing.
71
Speed
72
Importing 950 cachesN seconds to importN seconds to importZipped GPX file
73
Scrolling with 950 cachesNo lag, very fastNo lag, but sometimes it'll try to show the cache name under the cursor but that option can be turned off.
74
Scrolling with 10000 cachesNot triedNo lag, runs very well
75
Misc
76
Night HuntingDark or Light theme, no problems at nightQuite a few screens are white background, too bright at night
77
Battery UseNot bad, but only got 6 hours on a cache hike once, 39 total caches. I believe the electronic compass is on the whole time if the app is runningSeemed higher, but this is hard to measure.. Compass, GPS, etc all disabled if Locus is running in the foreground and the phone is suspended?
78
UsabilityVery specific to Geocaching, interface flows well, not a lot of unmarked icons. Pretty simple to use.Very powerful tool, therefore lots of functionality. Can be a little overwhelming, sometimes have to hunt to find a function I know exists. Lots of small icon buttons, although most are marked very clearly and so far no confusion on "is it this button or that one"Have touched the wrong button once or twice on the phone in the field. Have to poke fairly carefully.
79
StabilityNever crashes or FC'sNever seen a crash in normal usage, did find it "gone" twice while downloading map tiles but it continued from where it left off.
80
Nice to Have
81
Default Database typeI want "Online Shared" every time. I want it to default to this, not accidentally make an offline database I can't convert and have to delete and re-download.Have accidentally downloaded thousands of tiles into the wrong database type..
82
Quick Find/Move to FoundQuick find, but no MoveMultiple steps, but can Find/Note/Move. Simplifying this would be awesome. Could alternatively just make moving to a different database less steps. Might be improved here with "Copy" function in latest LocusWould love a "one touch" mark as found, smiley on cache icon, fill in field note, and move to the Found database so I can mark found a cache and go to the next with little fussing with the app.
83
Bugs to Fix
84
Some measurements don't match systemDrawing circles requests in Meters. Any others?
85
SQL Database weirdnessNot sure why, but when I rsync from my tablet -> PC, then PC -> Phone (to share map databases etc) it hoses the Waypoint databases, they're read-only. I think this also applies to the map DBs too :(
