ABCDEF
1
Here are a few notes on these plans:
2
3
All asterisked items have recipes included
4
5
I include one "less bad" dessert item each week -- we usually have these things on Saturday; I noticed if the kids know dessert is on the way, they don't ask for it the other days
6
7
I do lots of prep for the week on Sunday. I have a row at the bottom of the sheet that has the items that can or should be prepped ahead; in addition, there is a tab called "cook ahead" that lines it out.
8
9
We have pasta once a week, so I have done the same for you. I don't eat the pasta myself; on those days I have a big salad. I buy the organic baby greens in the cello box and keep them for these kind of days. Alternately, if there is a meat sauce, I will eat it on a bed of veggies. Oh, we handlie it like dessert because the kids love it so much - - we have a special day for it -- we call it Pasta Madness Thursday!
10
11
I have included at least one meatless meal every week. If you don't roll that way, you can always add chicken or fish to the meal. We eat bean based foods usually on these days because the fiber in the beans is so good for all of us. If you think it is too many beans for you, let me know and I will put "regular" food in.
12
13
I also let my kids have some healthier (non-manufactured) sweets during the week after school. In case you do too, I have included my carrot cake recipe that I make with whole wheat. It has a lot of sugar but is still 10 times better than a fruit-roll-up or twinkie. I freeze it in individual pieces and just put it in the fridge the morning they will eat it. It also makes it way less tempting for me!
14
15
I sometimes use beans as a starchy side because they are lower carb than starches. If all this is too beany, just put in some regular starch like brown rice.
16
17
Some recipes include an option to cook a larger batch and freeze it for future meals. In case you want to use this option, I have created the shopping list both ways.
18
19
I assume you have on hand: Salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil, cooking oil (like canola); these items are not on the shopping list
