8/26/2012 13:30:37Charleston Miracle LeagueAssist with Miracle League GamedaysThe Charleston Miracle League was founded almost 10 years ago with the goal of enriching the lives of disabled children and adults in Charleston. We now have almost 200 players that come out in the spring and fall to increase their physical skills, build self-confidence, and most importantly HAVE FUN!

Our fall season starts on September 22nd and we are looking for volunteers! We play three youth games and three adult games each Saturday for 8 weeks. Some volunteers only come for a few hours and some others stay all day. Volunteer opportunities include simply being a "fan in the stands" or being matched with a player to help them round the bases or field the ball (called being a "buddy") or helping with concessions or registration. There are lots of things to do and we rely on the community to help us ensure game day is a success. We are also in need of coaches for the fall season so please let me know if this interests you.

I encourage you to watch this video which may show you a little more about the miracle league and what we do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UQ1CLiJszk&feature=youtu.be

If you would like to sign up for a few hours or a full day of volunteering, let me know, I hope we can count on you. You may also stop by the field on any Saturday between September 22 and November 10th and check out all the miracles happening. I welcome you to "like" us on facebook so that you know when we desperately need volunteers or if we get rained out http://www.facebook.com/pages/Charleston-Miracle-League-Official-Facebook-Page/137694812918231 Thank you again for your interest in the Charleston Miracle League and your support of this incredible organization. 8/16/2012 10:24:09Charleston Animal SocietyNew foster program called Adoption AmbassadorsThis is a new foster program and has been quite successful in the past several months. We place dogs and puppies that are up for adoption into foster homes. We will then supply the Ambassador with everything they need...an adopt me vest, business cards for the dog, food, crate, we will train you on the adoption process, advertise the dog on our facebook and website, and encourage you to take your dog/puppy around the community to try to find someone to adopt them. We will also invite the Ambassadors to our adoption events. If you find someone to adopt the dog you will perform the adoption process. This is a research and development project that we are participating in for the ASPCA, meaning we are collecting data on why families are adopting the dogs out of the foster families homes. This program allows us to have more space available in the shelter for new animals entering the shelter, animals adopted out of foster homes are less likely to be returned, and the animal is able to live in a home environment and never has to come back to the shelter! We would love for us to have more people participate in this life saving program! Most of these dogs are getting adopted between 0-4 weeks. College students would be great for this opportunity.DowntownBecoming an Adoption Ambassador will depend on the foster family and their availability.Courtney Gumienny843-329-1577cgumienny@charlestonanimalsociety.orgwww.charlestonanimalsociety.org

2/9/2011 12:23:07Good News Afterschool ProgramLandscaping Overgrown shrubs and Clean upGood News Afterschool resides in a low income community. Our program in located in a previous daycare unit in a rundown plaza. We would welcome as many students as possible to come out and cut overgrown shrubs, help clean up trash, do some minor landscaping that would help vandals from hiding in or around our center. Recently vandals stole our only central/air and heat unit leaving us freezing during the last sleet and ice day in January. Maybe helping to clean up all the trash might help deter some crimes. Unfornately we have no money resources for cutting tools or bags or what ever may be needed to clean up. The owners of plaza is a non profit struggling with no finances. We would welcome any help the students could give in helping us alert the community and business at large what happen to our air/heat unit and the numerous attempts to break in our program. Thanking everyone for caring about the children.North CharlestonAny Saturday the a group could come just let Rezinda (843-327-7695) know and we will meet the groups there.Rezinda White843-327-7695rezinda@yahoo.comGoodnewsafterschool@myspace.com
