| 1/12/2011 | Shadyside | 2 | $0-$500 | E&J Management | 412-421-1945 | $750/mo rent for 2-bedroom includes heat and water, storage unit, and uncovered parking. Landlords good for time-critical stuff (leaking roof, leaky plumbing, lockouts), but we've spent the last three years trying to get them to repaint the kitchen, where the paint came off in sheets after the above mentioned roof-leak. | 5th Ave and Shady Ave | 15232 | 11+ | 3 | Unknown
| 1/12/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $801-$900 | Darragh | 412-624-9988 | Apartments are fairly new, so there aren't many problems. 9 | 1/12/2011 | Oakland | 2 | $1001+ | Darragh | The best aspects of the Darragh apartments is the responsiveness of the landlord and maintenance. Every request I've made has been dealt with within a day or two and emergencies are responded to within a half hour (even on the weekends and evenings). Darragh is new and well maintained with decent appliances. A washer and dryer in the apartment was a huge plus for me too. As for the cons, the design for all the apartments is terrible and there is a great deal of inefficient and wasted space in the apartments making them feel cramped. Walls are a little thin and neighbor arguments/aerobic exercise/loud singing can usually be heard. | Darragh Street and Terrace Street | 15213 | 11+ | http://www.ocl.pitt.edu/apartments/darragh.html | 5 | No
| 1/12/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $0-$500 | Meyers Management | These rooms are HUGE! Three people can fit into a 1 bedroom comfortably (which makes rent like <300 a person) though ideal for two people. The building next door (which is managed by the same company) is also very nice and has two bedrooms and smaller one bedrooms (the rent is slightly higher though). Ideal distance away from school -- 20-min walk, Pitt shuttle, or public bus routes. Plus, lots of restaurants right down the street on Craig! I lived here all through undergrad and loved it so much that I decided to stay on for med school! | N Craig and Bayard | 15213 | 11+ | 5 | Unknown
| 1/12/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $801-$900 | Darragh | Rent is high but the convenience of being a block from the school is great. The apartments are new and clean. You have a dishwasher, a washer and a dryer in your unit, which is really great. Walls are very thin so I can hear my dentist student neighbors when they are partying (which is sometimes the day before we have an exam). Some apartments have really bad views (I look at another wall and window). | Darragh and Terrace | 15213 | 11+ | 5 | No
| 1/12/2011 | Squirrel Hill South | 5+ | $0-$500 | Mark Desnoyer | This isn't really an apartment, but a shared house full of graduate students. It's great! 15 | 1/12/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $601-$700 | Lobos | Avoid lobos property. They do not fix anything that breaks for months. I have had no heat all winter and they keep saying they will come out to fix it and they never do. They also have electric heaters installed in their units which are super expensive and inefficient (compared to normal gas force air heat, with electric heat you don't even get a thermostat). I have never talked to anyone that has lived in a lobos property and had anything positive to say about it. Save yourself the time, money, and hassle and go somewhere else. | Neville and centre | 15213 | 4-10 | 1 | Unknown
| 1/12/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $801-$900 | Darragh | Pros: -Great location, -Landlord responsive about fixing issues, -Safe building Cons: -Thin walls, -Big hill | Darragh Street and Terrace Street | 15213 | 11+ | 5 | No
| 1/12/2011 | Shadyside | Studio | $601-$700 | Mozart Management | 412-682-7000 | The landlord is a large management company, which has its pros and cons. Requests for services may take some time to complete, the lengthy and detailed rental contract was intimidating, and the initial rental application fees are unavoidable. However, they have a great website (very helpful for apartment hunting at-a-distance - that is, over the internet), are available to tenants by phone 24/7, and their rental office is open during business hours, 7 days a week. They have also approved larger-scale requests for me, such as refinishing my hardwood floors, which a smaller company or private landlord might have been hesistant to do. Regarding the apartment itself, I'm quite satisfied. It has exactly what I need for one person, nothing more, nothing less. | 5th Ave and Shady Ave | 15232 | 11+ | http://www.mozartrents.com | 4 | Unknown
| 1/13/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $801-$900 | Darragh | 412-624-9900 | Landlord is understanding toward waiting for student aid to arrive with regards to rent. Keycard entry. All utilities included in rent ($895 for type B single, $795 for type A single, $1100 total for two-bedroom). Walls are somewhat thin and can hear loud sounds in other apartments. Building is for dental and medical students only and is 1 block away from where our classes are held. | Darragh St & Terrace St | 15213 | 11+ | http://www.ocl.pitt.edu/apartments/university-owned.html | 5 | No
| 1/13/2011 | Shadyside | 1 | $601-$700 | Union Real Estate | (412) 288-7800 | The landlord is really responsive and I've had a maintenance person at my apartment the day that I call or the day after. My only complaint is that they've been "painting" the stairwell and basically hallway of my building for over 3 months. It's half painted and there's still painters tape down. The hallway is definitely not nice and my floors definitely are beat up, but for the price and location, it serves me well. | Aiken and Ellsworth | 15232 | 4-10 | http://www.unionreal.com/home | 4 | No
| 1/13/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $701-$800 | Darragh | The apartments are relatively small but adequate, with washer and dryer in every unit. 22 | 1/13/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $801-$900 | Darragh | 412-624-9900 | Maintenance responds within 24 hrs to nonemergent issues. Apartments are a little smaller but are conveniently located to the med school. Apartment includes washer, dryer, fridge/freezer, dishwater, and rent includes utilities, cable, and wireless. I live in a single- rent is cheaper for doubles. | Terrace St and Darragh St | 15213 | 11+ | http://www.ocl.pitt.edu/apartments/darragh.html | 5 | No
| 1/13/2011 | Point Breeze | 3 | $0-$500 | Kevin Chung | 4124500557 | Landlord is OK - I've had better and worse. He isn't enormously responsive and uses contractors with a pretty shoddy attention to detail, but he's pleasant to deal with and open to the concept of things being fixed (ie. you don't have to fight him to get work done, just remind him). For the price (1150/full 3 BR house), you really can't beat it. Point Breeze is a good place to live as long as you don't mind a slightly longer commute. | Murtland Ave and Thomas Blvd | 15208 | 2-3 | 3 | Yes
| 1/13/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $701-$800 | Darragh | 412-624-9900 | Pluses: Living in Darragh is super convenient. <5 min walk to Scaife, Oakland hospitals (Presby/Monte/WPIC). Apts are small (style A is more like a studio), but all utilities are covered, including standard cable and internet. Best perk is personal washer and dryer in unit. Property Management generally pretty responsive to tenant needs. Minuses: expensive parking ($85/month), small living space for the price. | Darragh and Terrace | 15213 | 11+ | http://www.ocl.pitt.edu/ | 4 | No
| 1/13/2011 | Oakland | 2 | $501-$600 | Darragh | 412-624-9900 | The convenience of location and a utilities-included rent are hard to beat. The apartments are only a few years old and still in good shape. Maintenance issues are very quickly taken care of - you can submit an online form and many times the issue is fixed the next day. I believe there's an online application to submit through the Off-Campus Living website, but most people that I know who live in Darragh were persistent in calling the office to ask about openings. Submit the application as soon as you're accepted to Pitt (you can call and cancel it later) and keep calling in April or May! | Darragh St. and Terrace St. | 15213 | 11+ | http://www.ocl.pitt.edu/ | 4 | Unknown

| 1/13/2011 | Other | 2 | $0-$500 | Al Meyers | My fiance and I live in a 2 bedroom bilevel apartment that's approximately 1100 square feet on the Mexican War Streets (a Victorian house district on the Northside of Pittsburgh). Our rent is extremely cheap and this is an up and coming neighborhood with a mix of singles and families. We live a block away from the bar that was just rated as having Pittsburgh's best bartender (Monterey Pub) and have a park and several buses within a block at our disposal. The nice thing about living on the Northside and commuting to Oakland is that you're going against traffic aside from the Steelers games, so the commute is fast! We wanted to live near downtown without downtown prices and have more of a city feel than some of the more traditional neighborhoods (i.e. Shadyside, Squirrel Hill). Our landlord is extremely responsive and lives down the street. There are also a few other apartment buildings on our street with landlords as neighbors that are also great people. I'd highly recommend the Northside. | Resaca and North Ave | 15212 | 4-10 | 5 | No

| 1/13/2011 | Squirrel Hill North | 4 | $501-$600 | Walnut capital | (412) 683-3810 | Squirrel Hill is a wonderful place to live, lots of restaurants/cafes/grocery store easily walkable. 31 | 1/13/2011 | Oakland | Studio | $701-$800 | Mozart | Awesome location. Next to bus stop. Next to Panera and Starbucks. Mozart definitely will fix problems right way. Outdoor and indoor parking available for fee. | S. Aiken and Centre Ave. | 15232 | 11+ | 5 | Unknown
| 1/13/2011 | Oakland | 2 | $601-$700 | Ronna Scoratow | I'm not sure how many other units my landlord owns, since I am renting her personal condo from her. However, I will say that living in North Oakland is convenient IF you can avoid the undergraduate party crowds. If possible, look at the building you are considering living in at night on a fri/sat to get a feel for how much noise there will be. | Dithridge and Bayard | 15213 | 11+ | 4 | No
| 1/13/2011 | Squirrel Hill North | 3 | $0-$500 | Henry Chuang | I recommend Squirrel Hill! It's only a 20 min busride, a 45 min walk away from school. 34 | 1/13/2011 | Oakland | Studio | $701-$800 | Darragh Street Apartments | 412 624 9900 | The Darragh Street apartments are very convenient, with all the amenities necessary (washing and drying machine, dishwasher, oven, big refrigerator, internet, cable, etc.). The place is clean and very very well upkept (within hours of sending an electronic complaint to their website, Kevin comes to fix it). Overall, it is a bit pricy compared to other places, but it is great to be able to come home in between classe, for meals, or even if you just forgot your white coat :). PS: even if the website says they are full, just call and talk to Kevin, he'll work something out. 36 | 1/13/2011 | Shadyside | 2 | $601-$700 | Mozart management | 4126827000 | They come into my apartment a lot, I suspect that they have been fabricating reasons to enter my apartment in order to get me to move out. I do not recommend this company to anyone. | Centre Ave. and S. Aiken | 15232 | 11+ | 3 | No
| 1/13/2011 | Shadyside | 2 | $501-$600 | Union Realty | Apartment is quarky...shelves are not what one would call even and the walls are plastered alittle funny. The place is huge, though, and an easy busride/bike ride in to scaife. This area requires more planning, b/c the apartment complexes often don't have many available units and you have to be willing to call the number on signs. Anyway, no bugs, the manager is responsive and the place is cheap. | Walnut street and Negley | 15232 | 11+ | 4 | No
| 1/13/2011 | Squirrel Hill South | 2 | $501-$600 | Mozart Management | Building is old and has weird walls and ugly paint that you're not allowed to paint over. Old radiator heaters are SUPER HOT during the winter (we sleep with our windows open and just a thin sheet!). If you don't have a corner unit, you get no cross breeze and it's pretty hot in the summer and you're pretty much running the A/C all day. But you don't pay for gas so other than rent, you're only paying for electricity. You can pay an extra $50 or so for a parking spot in the garage but we have no problems with street parking usually (except for snowmaggedon). Management is really responsive and usually come the same day and always within the week to address any maintenance issues. All hardwood floors so no gross carpets to deal with. | Hobart and Wightman | 15217 | 11+ | 4 | No

| 1/13/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $501-$600 | Lobos Management | Poor building structure. Really old building. Think walls (can hear your neighbors watching TV). Not well insulated. Pests. Electricity is very expensive. Landlord does not response to requests unless you threat to report them to the housing authority. Definitely not worth renting from Lobos Management. 41 | 1/13/2011 | Oakland | 2 | $501-$600 | University of Pittsburgh | Great deal especially if you have a roommate. Internet, Cable, utilities included. Best of all very convenient. 42 | 1/13/2011 | Oakland | Studio | $0-$500 | Union Real Estate | I have had a really great experience thus far. I love North Oakland; close enough to school to walk and close to Shadyside to do fun stuff. My building manager is very responsive and trustworthy. I don't know if my experience is an anomaly with this company or not, but I would recommend them! | Bayard St & N Neville St | 15213 | 11+ | 4 | Unknown
| 1/13/2011 | Other | 1 | $701-$800 | Forbes Management | 412-441-1211 | Forbes is pretty good. Our apartment is in really good condition... hardwood floors, all new appliances, new windows, AC, etc... and included everything but electric, so it's a bargain. They're also pretty good about responding to maintenance issues. When we moved in, the key they gave us didn't work (previous tenant had broken a key off in the lock) and they went above and beyond in getting us new locks within a day or so (this was on a weekend). | Penn Ave & S Negley Ave | 15206 | 11+ | www.forbesmanagement.net | 4 | No
| 1/14/2011 | Shadyside | Studio | $701-$800 | McQuarters Realty | 412-441-0820 | I love the responsiveness of McQuarters when they're using their own maintenance people, but they take a very long time to resort to outside help for a problem with the apartment. For instance, I was having toilet issues for 5 months before they finally replaced the toilet. | S Negley Ave and Elwood St | 15232 | 1 | http://www.mcquartersrealty.com/index.asp | 4 | No
| 1/14/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $801-$900 | Darragh | apartment really clean and new. tons of amenities and all utilities included (cable and wi-fi too). | Terrace St and Darragh St | 15213 | 11+ | 5 | Unknown
| 1/14/2011 | Shadyside | 3 | $601-$700 | Kenmawr Apartments | Living at the Kenmawr is almost stress free, but the price is higher than the market. If you share a place with someone else, then expenses can be reduced. What you get for the money is worth it. The maintenance is very prompt with on-site people. Doormen handle package deliveries. That's great for online shopping when you don't have time to go to the malls. The big bonus is that the heat is part of the rent. So having the place at 80 in the middle of winter is part of the norm. Even if I turn off the heat, the apartment is still heated by the floors above and below. The building is eight stories tall with about 200 units. I live on the 6th floor and have nice city views. Be careful about choosing an apartment facing the west. I have been told that you will have beautiful sunsets, but pay for it during the summer. Underground parking is extra. Valet parking is included in that fee. Free parking is available on the streets, but not always close. The building is within easy walking distance to several bus lines. When going to campus, you need to select a line and wait for that one bus. But when returning home, you can pick any of the several buses and return quickly. Two large churches next door add to the scenery. The building is within walking distance to a Giant Eagle, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. The shops on Walnut are 10-minutes away by foot. Target is opening up also in the neighborhood. I have a family. And the building is family friendly with many other people having small kids. For single people, this does not mean that the building is noisy. The building attracts graduates and professionals including medical residents. So the building is quiet in general. | Shady & Walnut | 15206 | 11+ | http://www.kenmawrapartments.com/ | 5 | Yes
| 1/14/2011 | Bloomfield | 3 | $0-$500 | Sweet Property Management, Caitlain LeDonne | 412-924-8907 | The landlords, Caitie and Joe LeDonne, are fabulous. 48 | 1/14/2011 | Point Breeze | 3 | $0-$500 | John Zitelli | Great house! Quiet neighborhood and very safe. The house is clean, well taken care of, and spacious. Parking on the street never seems to be a problem but there are street sweeping days. However, this house is next to a cemetery, but I don't really notice it. The various bus stops to Oakland, Squirrel Hill, or Shadyside are within a 10 minute walk. The only downside is that there are very few buses that run to Point Breeze from the more popular locations, so I would recommend a car/bike for convenience especially on weekends. | Wilkins Ave & S Dallas Ave | 15208 | 2-3 | 4 | Unknown
| 1/14/2011 | Oakland | Studio | $601-$700 | Sterling Land Management | (412) 682-5000 | Rent is $640/month with utilities included. You would just have to get your own cable/Internet. Clean apartment & decent size for a studio. Great location ~15 minute walk from Scaife and shorter if you take the 10A Pitt shuttle, but not an area populated by noisy and annoying undergrads, esp since the building is not rented to undergrads. No problems with management. | N. Craig and Bayard St. | 15213 | 11+ | www.sterlingland.com | 5 | No
| 1/15/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $801-$900 | Mozart Management | 412 6827000 | The management company is relatively quick in responsiveness. The buildings are old (built in the 1920's) which makes them very charming, but not necessarily new and clean looking. The landlord does random inspections which means they can come into your apartment anytime without notice to rate your cleanliness, etc, which makes me very uncomfortable. I am planning on moving out when my lease is up because I don't feel incredibly safe in the surrounding neighborhood at night. | Centre Ave. and North Dithridge Street | 15213 | 11+ | 3 | No
| 1/16/2011 | Other | 2 | $0-$500 | Wayne Albright | 412-400-5679 | Beautiful and spacious 2BR/1bath apt in a 4 unit building, in the quaint and residential neighborhood of Regent Square for $1000 plus utilities. Frick Park 1 block away, and restaurants/bars/laundry 3 blocks away; 1 mile from Sq. Hill (Shady & Forbes). On bus lines 61a and 61b, about 20-30 minutes into Oakland (depending on traffic/time of day). Neighborhood populated by grad students/young professionals, young families, and professor-types. Proximity to Wilkinsburg lends to cheap rent but isn't any more dangerous than Shadyside, Lawrenceville, etc. Great for a couple or young family. | East End Ave & Biddle Ave | 15221 | 4-10 | wa64.com/Waltz.html | 5 | No
| 1/16/2011 | Bloomfield | 2 | $0-$500 | Steve Powanda/Birchwood Group | 412.276.6974 | Steve is a very nice guy. We haven't had any issues with the apartment. The apartment is part of a house that is divided into 4 units each with a private entrance. Parking is cheap, and the rent is amazingly cheap. If you want to save money, Bloomfield is a great area to check out. I would recommend looking in the south end of Bloomfield to stay within convenient walking distance of the buses that run down Centre Ave. | Cypress St and Baum Blvd | 15224 | 4-10 | N/A | 5 | No
| 1/18/2011 | Point Breeze | 3 | $0-$500 | John Zitelli/Zitelli Properties | 412.242.0895 | John is fantastic. When moving in, both our fridge and dryer needed replacement and he did it super quickly, with a promptness that is rare of landlords. There was also a leak into our the downstairs neighbor's unit and John got in and out to fix it ASAP before my roommates even moved in so it disturbed the fewest number of people possible. He was very accimodating of my not being able to sign the lease in PGH until move-in day and very straightforward about what he wants from his tenants. He's a straight shooter and really emphasizes making your rental a home not just the place you live. I would live in ANY place that Zitelli Properties manages bc it's a smaller, family-owned and operated company and they really do a fantastic job managing their rentals. Complete satisfaction, and the rent is totally cheap to boot. The main drawback is that living in Point Breeze can be a bit isolating if you don't have a car to get around to social events and sometimes the bus can be unreliable. That said, I hear gripes about the bus everywhere (even Shadyside-overcrowding during rush hours) and if you have a car, Point Breeze is a fantastic neighborhood to live in. Family friendly, quiet, removed from the student-populated feel of Shadyside and Oakland, and much more affordable. | Wilkins Ave & S Dallas Ave | 15208 | 2-3 | N/A?? | 5 | Unknown
| 1/18/2011 | Shadyside | 1 | $901-$1000 | Colebrook Management | The building is mostly international, older students and only 1 bedroom apartments so is generally very quiet. 2 major bus routes make the morning commute a non-issue. I feel safe and love the location! Besides a bit of a pricey rent, no complaints! | Fifth Ave and S. Highland Ave | 15206 | 11+ | 4 | No
| 1/20/2011 | Shadyside | 1 | $901-$1000 | Mozart Management | 412.682.7000 | Whenever I have an issue (clogged shower, problems with oven), Mozart sends someone within 2 hours - it's amazing! | Ellsworth Ave & S Aiken Ave | 15232 | 11+ | http://mozartrents.com/ | 4 | No
| 1/20/2011 | Shadyside | 4 | $0-$500 | Forbes Management | 412.441.7799 | We had some issues with them re: cleanliness of the apartment when we first moved in. However, they came to fix everything eventually. The maintenance workers are fabulous. They are generally awesomely responsive about maintenance calls EXCEPT in the Aug-early Oct time (that's when a lot of their units are turned over), just an FYI. The apartment is pretty spacious, and with the only neighbor downstairs all the noise comes from roommates (all medstudents) so its pretty quiet and nice. | Spahr St. and Alder St. | 15232 | 2-3 | http://www.forbesmanagement.net/ | 4 | No

| 2/19/2011 | Oakland | 2 | $601-$700 | Sterling Land | (412) 621-5478 | Live in the Old King Edwards - very happy with it. Lots of maintenance staff always available and quick to respond. The place is clean and doesn't reek of smoke, which is a big plus as far as I'm concerned. 59 | 2/19/2011 | Shadyside | 1 | $701-$800 | CA Properties | I love my apartment and will have lived in it for two years by the time I graduate, and I actually took over the lease of a 2009 grad who had lived in it during all four of his years at Pitt Med. It's incredibly spacious and a great price for the location, size, and it comes with a designated off-streak parking spot. A lot of bus lines stop right at my corner which is also incredibly convenient. CA Properties has been fantastic -- they are super quick to respond to issues that I've had (plumbing, heating, etc) which is nice because my building is sort of old and has had a couple quirks. I used to live in a Lobos Mngmt building which was a HORRIBLE experience (do not, do not, do NOT rent from Lobos), so my CA Properties place is a vast improvement -- I highly recommend them. | Walnut St and S. 62 | 2/19/2011 | Oakland | Studio | $601-$700 | Sterling Land Company | 412-682-5000 | The building I live in is called the Royal York and I'm really happy with the landlord, building, price, etc. It is clean, the staff are all very, very kind, and the building is within walking distance to the medical school/hospitals/Pitt's main campus. There is a shuttle to the medical school about a block away for rainy/snowy days. The building is older so be aware that you'll need a window AC if you want air conditioning, but otherwise most everything is newly renovated (kitchen, bathroom). | Bigelow Blvd and N. 64 | 2/19/2011 | Shadyside | 2 | $0-$500 | Gerry O'Hare | 412-372-5585 | These guys are a small, laid-back operation; several brothers run the company. They are reasonably responsive. They are handymen and take care of most issues themselves--which is mostly good, but sometimes you think, "Hmm, why don't they hire a professional to do that?" The location is great. Note that the price per person (above) does not include any utilities. My wife and I live here. Rent is $900/month; utilities are another ~$200. It has a parking space in the back, which is important in this neighborhood. | Walnut Street and Bellefonte Street | 15232 | 2-3 | 4 | No
| 2/19/2011 | Squirrel Hill South | 2 | $0-$500 | Private | Our rent is $800 for 2 people in a spacious 2-bedroom with a garage a couple blocks from Schenley Park. Squirrel Hill is a great neighborhood with everything you could possibly want within walking distance (grocery store, banks, dry cleaners, post office, liquor store, coffee shops). We found it through word of mouth, but there are lots of similar properties (ours is a duplex) I've seen on Craigslist, etc., that are owned by private individuals and rented out. I'm biased, but there's no reason to live in Oakland or Darragh and pay crazy prices with the cheap, awesome housing stock and great neighborhoods all over Pittsburgh unless you absolutely need to be next to the medical school 24/7. | Beacon and Wightman | 15217 | 2-3 | 4 | Yes

| 2/19/2011 | Point Breeze | Studio | $501-$600 | Mozart Management | (412) 682-7000 | Ravenswood, one of 2 Mozart complexes at Penn & Braddock is a little bit out of the way, but a great value. The appliances and floors are all recently replaced and in good shape. The Mozart responsiveness to maintenance issues has been phenomenal for me - I call up in the morning with an issue and by the time I return home at night it has been fixed and there is a note on my table explaining what they did. There is also off-street parking available both in a lot and in garages for an extra fee. The only down sides are the street noise (I would avoid an apartment that faces the street) and that the buses to Oakland run less often than in Squirrel Hill or Shadyside. They also don't allow subletting your apartment. | Penn Avenue & North Braddock Avenue | 15208 | 11+ | http://mozartrents.com | 4 | No
| 2/19/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $701-$800 | Meyers Management | 412-682-5886 | The apartment building is called Melwood Manor and it's located at 250 Melwood Ave. 20 min walk to get to med school and Pitt bus picks up around corner. 1 bedroom apartments have nice size family room and bed room. Kitchen is small, no dishwasher so get use to washing your own dishes. Street has many other student apartment buildings so pretty safe environment. No central air so need some type of window or portable AC for summer time. No problems with management yet, fix things in a timely manner, maintenance guys are easy to get along with. Close to CVS, Subway, pizza places, barber shop, and other stuff so there's lot of things close by. Has off street parking garage for a fee. Been there 3 years and don't really have any negatives besides needing an AC unit and that the kitchen is kinda small with no dishwasher. My studio is $645 per month including all utilities (except buy your own cable/internet; a window air conditioner is installed in the apartment) and an off-street parking spot. 1 mile away from Presby and <1 mile from Shadyside Hospital. Mozart has been great the past 2 years; very quick to respond to any maintenance issues (came w.in 10 mins when I had a plumbing problem) and they e-mail me every few months to see if I have noticed any problems around my apartment or the building. 80 | 2/20/2011 | Point Breeze | 2 | $0-$500 | John Costello | 412-855-6606 | John does not have a website, but owns upwards of 400 units around the city. He owns the buildings in a small complex on Meade Street that my fiance and I have lived for nearly two years now. John gave us no hassle for pets, not even a deposit. He has responded to all of our requests/problems promptly, including putting on a whole new section of roof when we had a water leak, replacing our dishwasher, and allowing us to paint our apartment without any stipulation for painting it back. We found him through craigslist and then just had him show us more apartments that he had available. We got a two bedroom, two-story (2nd and third floors) of a 3-story building for $850 + gas/electric. There is also street and lot parking. 81 | 2/20/2011 | Oakland | 1 | $0-$500 | Saad Ibrahim | This landlord has been tricking students for years into giving him a non-refundable "downpayment" before they sign the actual lease. I have successfully sued this individual to get my downpayment back which he withheld from me after denying me a room to live in (which he had previously promised me). 83 | 2/20/2011 | Oakland | 3 | $0-$500 | Rekha Rapaka, MD | Landlords are recent PittMed grads. Great about responding to emails and prompt in resolving any maintenance issues that crop up. Apartment is a townhouse in great condition, newly renovated, and only a 3-min. walk from Scaife according to Google maps, even closer than many Darragh apts (considering no stairs, winding hallways etc. to deal with). 84 | 2/20/2011 | Shadyside | 1 | $801-$900 | MJ Kelly Realty | Large apartment with balacony and assigned parking space. Coin laundry in the basement. All windows replaced 2 years ago. Great location. The landlord is fine. I usually have no interaction with him. On the rare instance when I do, it can be unpleasant. However, after a heated debate and me standing my ground, they did replace all the carpet a few years back. 88 | 2/21/2011 | Shadyside | 1 | $801-$900 | Meyers Management | Overall excellent management company. They have been really quick at repairing any problems, building manager (Mike) is a really nice guy, management is always respectful, and they are letting me sign my lease 2 months after the lease renewal deadline because I am still unsure as to whether or not I will move out (I want to move to a bigger place). If I am to move, I will definitely try to stay within Meyers. The only problem I've had so far is with my carpet. It's pretty old and I asked for it to be replaced when I first moved in but they refused and said that it was still in acceptable condition. The single best thing about Meyers is the flexibility of the management. I lived in a Union Real Estate building my first year at Pitt and they were a real pain in the ass when it came to moving in and out. All I needed was an extra day to move out but they wouldn't have any of it--I had to do EXACTLY what was written in the unrealistic contract, no exceptions. Speaking of contracts, the Meyers contract is just as strict and unforgivable (they are not responsible for anything that happens), but the management people have so far been pretty flexible with offering reasonable exceptions. | Ellsworth & Negley | 15232 | 11+ | 4 | No

| 3/2/2011 | Shadyside | 1 | $601-$700 | Trends Capital | 412 444 6677 | Don't make the mistake of renting from this company. Everything I was told when I applied for the apartment was a complete lie down to what utility bills I was responsible for. I had insufficient heat all winter (never really above 60 degrees) - when I complained they told me I was lying. Only when the health department intervened did anything happen. Their solution at that point was to cover my windows with plastic. I've had a flooded/leaking bathroom since the first months of my lease and my dishwasher has never worked. It's horrible and I'm moving out. | Ellsworth Ave & Maryland Ave | 15232 | 2-3 | 1 | Yes

Impossible to keep the heat in during the winter, was a problem for me because I like the heat. You have to commute, plan on 30 minutes, fewer buses than Oakland/Shadyside. Landlord is fine. 99 | 3/2/2011 | Squirrel Hill South | 2 | $501-$600 | Mozart | Very responsive to maintenance for a large company. Expect your rent to go up 3-5% each year. The building is old, but usually quite quiet. The style and appeal of these apartments vary, so you MUST see them in person. They are reasonably priced, but street parking can be an issue during evenings/weekends. 100 | 3/2/2011 | Shadyside | 2 | $0-$500 | Arbors Management | 724-733-1565 | Apartment is in a great location in Shadyside, right on the 500 bus line to Oakland. Parking lot if you have a car, but not all units in building come with a parking spot (if that's the case, there's streetside parking all around the building, though you may need a cheap parking permit for some spots). Building (The Highwood) contains mostly condos that are owned by occupants, but there are also a few apartments for rent. It is a historic building built in the '20s which comes with it's quirks (poor electrical wiring, creaky wooden floors, finicky plumbing) but has the advantage of steam heat that you don't pay for during the winter. No A/C for the summer but window units will keep units reasonably cool. Storage areas in the basement. Communal laundry room in basement, but availability is rarely a problem. Secure building in a safe part of town. Arbors Management can be slow to respond to complaints about repairs or other apartment issues, but they do get taken care of without much fuss eventually. | S.
