2	Maya	What is the effect of weight on smooth and rippled potato chips?	Take 50 smooth potato chips and slowly add more weight to each one of them. At the same time, take 50 ruffled potato chips and add the same amount of weight. See which ones break first.	4	Great idea. So you are testing the ability of various chip types to resist crushing, right. This'll be fun... and yummy.
3	Oscar Waterman	How well does one work under pressure?	Have ten people do a quiz with a limited amount of time, and have ten more people do the same quiz with unlimited time.	3	This is an interesting idea and I'd like to see the results, actually. I'm concerned that you won't be able to control for the differences between people's quiz-taking abilities.
4	Prerna	Does text color affect readability?	First I will make a list of colors in different colors. Ex. ORANGE GREEN BLUE RED (in different colors). I will print the same list only in black too. The words will still be the same. Then I will get 30- 50 students to participate. First I will have them read the page with black test and time them. Then I will have them read the color page and time that too. I will also ask how easy it was. I will then present my information on a graph. Materials: Computer printout of color text, Black and White copy of text, 30 test people, note taking materials, timer	4	This will be good. There are other factors about color to consider, including hue and intensity. (not all "reds" are the same). Also, asking "how easy was that" will yield very subjective data. Try to figure out a way to solve that.
5	Elise	In which condition can you smell garlic the farthest away from: a whole clove, crushed or minced	Get garlic. a whole clove,crushed, and minced, and stand at one end of the black top on a windy day, depending on which direction the wind is blowing, and have some people be on the other end of the blacktop, upwind of it, then take a whole clove , have them sniff the air and wrie down what they smell. Then take the crushed garlic and do the same thing,and finally repeat the process with the minced, then look at the results	5	Asking people to detect the exact distrance at which they detect a smell will be a bit of a challenge, but it is possible. I wouldn't wait for wind to do this, as that will add a variable for which you can't control. You could just do it without wind OR you could use a fan and do it in a room. Also, be sure to have many test subjects. This is do-able, but it will be time-consuming.
6	Theodor	What is the effect of different pollutants( like paint or soda) on plant growth?	I need 15 almost identical plants, use water on one, use paint and water( so it won't die) and use soda and water(again so it won't die) and control all other variables like sunlight and how much water they get.	4	Ok, you can do this but test various concentrations of the two pollutants. That way you have a variable for which you control the amount, and a variable for which you measure the result.
7	Naya V.	What is the effect of the age of a person on the ability to differentiate between a pear and an apple?	I would get a bunch of pears and apples and cut them up into little cubes. Then I would get a group of 5 6-year-olds, 5 7-year-olds, 5 8-year-olds, 5 9-year-olds, 5 10-year-olds, 5 11-year-olds, and 5 12-year-olds. I would give all of them a blind taste test of a pear and an apple and record what age they are, what they think what they are tasting, and what it really is. I would then put all the data together and form a conclusion.	4	Gee, what a great idea! Go for it. Maybe in the quesiton you ask, you should have a "how sure are you" question... that will help differentiate some of your data and give you more to explain in your conclusion section.
8	Liam	Does sugar change your heart rate?	I will give 5 people candy and have five people have no candy, and compare their heart rates.	3	Nice. I'm hoping that your independent variable will have various levels to it (not just "candy yes" vs. "candy no").
9	Addie	what kind of music improves your test scores?	I will have 5 experiments and 5 similar tests. 1. will have rap music played 2. will have pop music played 3. will have classical music played 4. will have slow music played 5. will have no music played. I will have the same group of people do each test. Then I will collect the data and create a chart, or something.	4	What kind of data will you collect? Make it quantifiable if at all possible.
10	Alec	Does pressure affect if you make soccer shots?	Take 10 people and have them shoot at the goal out of 10 shots. Then offer them a bribe and have them do it again.	5	What is the function of the bribe? Isn't that just adding another variable? I think that this is a good idea. It will be hard to control for their skill level differences? Also, people's shooting ability might change with time an practice.
11	Alec	Do different kinds of computer games give you headaches?	Play different kinds of games for one hour and see what happens to me. If i get headache,dizzy or blurry vision.	5	The headache level will be hard to measure, but if you can figure out a way to do it, then go ahead. Also, test it with a variety of people.
12	Ali	What is the effect of playing on a computer daily and my grades?	I get a bunch of my friends and have half of them play computers for about an hour and half of them study. I collect data and do it again with a new set.	5	What type of data will you collect? This needs to be reasoned out in greater detail. It will be a challenge to hold the many variables constant (intelligence of people, etc)
13	Ali	What is the effect of the falling off a ripstik and your attitude about it?	I get a few test subjects of equal skill on a ripstik (preferably one is my sister) and I make them ripstik. I then ask them about their opinion about riding a ripstik.	3	Hmmmm. Very interesting. How will you get some to fall and not others. Also, just asking how you feel can really be open to too much subjectivity. Is there another more quantifiable way to measure it?
14	Audrey	can other food color your hair naturally?	I will take different food that has a color and mix it with water so I can see if it darkens or lightens my hair color.	4	I understand what you wrote in your experiment field, but I dont' understand your question. Remember... "effect of X on Y".
15	Avi Desai :3	Do Energy Drinks really work?	I will give half the people an energy drink before PE, and the other half just a plain sugar drink. But I will tell the other half they are also getting an energy drink. After PE I will ask everyone individually whether they thought the energy drink helped their performance or not.		Good idea. You'll have to try it with a few classes to see if there is any consistent correlation. Could get expensive!
16	Gabi	How fast can cotton candy melt?	I will use cotton candy have a bowl of water and time how fast cotton candy melts in it.	4	That will give you only one variable of data, and you need two. Perhaps you could test the effect of water temperature on the melting of something.
17	Katy	What is the effect of age on gummy bear flavor?	I will take people of different ages and blindfold them. Then give them a gummy bear and have them guess what type it is.	3	\
18	Katy	What is the effect of gum on flavor?	I will try different types of gum and time how long it will take to lose all of it's flavor and record the data	3	This will be good. You'll have to come up with a system for quantifying the level of flavor that people perceive. Also, are you going to use a variety of brands with the same flavor?
19	Katy	What is the effect of age on determination of gummy bear flavor?	I would take people of different ages and blindfold them. Then I will give them a few gummy bears and they will guess what flavor it is	4	Sounds good. Will you give them a flavor list from which to choose?
20	Lesley	How does music influence your art?	I'll give every table a piece of paper and put some genre types of music and let them draw.	5	Hmmmm. This sounds interesting. I'm wondering how you will gather data in this experiment. What types of differences in art are you intending to measure?
21	luka	how many saltine crakers can i eat in a row	saltine crackers , glass of water, paper and pencil.	5	This will yield a single number, but this experiment should yield data that can be plotted on the two axis of a graph. "Effect of this on that". Can you adjust your cracker idea to fit into that scenario?
22	Lukas Z	What is the effect of reading Asterix and Obilix comic books on your Roman history tests	I take a history test on Rome, then I read 15 Asterix and Obelix and then take the same test again after 3 weeks.	4	The time between learning the stuff and taking the test (right away vs 3 weeks) will have a big impact on test score. I like the question (sort of) but you need to come up with a better way to test it.
23	Nate	Does the brand and type of soccer ball effect your shot power?	Have a friend hold a radar gun behind the goal and shoot three times with 10 different types of socer balls at the same angle with the same shoes and judge which shot was the best. After find the average of all the speeds with each soccer ball and find out which ball is the best for power	5	Excellent. Do you have the equipment for this? It will be best if you could test this on many people and with many shots per ball-type. Maybe even do a few rounds of testing.
24	Nate	What colors affect your mood?	Get several people in different colored rooms to hang out in and in 15 minutes tell them to come out and ask them how they feel?	4	Just asking "how do you feel" is wide open to much subjectivity. You'd need a more quantifiable way to measure it. Also, the colored rooms would have to be similar in all other factors... hard to find!
25	Naya V.	What is the effect of time on the concentration of hydrochloric acid?	I would get 10 bottles of hydrochloric acid all of the same concentration and let them sit for different amounts of time. After one bottle is done with it's time, I would measure the concentration of the acid and record it. Once all of them were done, I would get a conclusion.	4	Interresting and potentially dangerous. Concentration is measured in "molarity" so you'll have to leard about that and how to measure it.
26	Oscar Waterman	Does the type of movie you watch, effect how hungry you are after?	Have ten people watch an animated kids movie, and have ten more people watch an action movie. If they all waited two hours without eating before the movie, and then all ate the same things right before the movie, witch group would be hungrier?	4	Again, it will be hard to control variables resulting from the natural differences between people in your groups.
27	Oscar waterman	Can you tell the difference between similar foods while plugging your nose and closing your eyes?	Have ten people do the test on apples and pears, and ten people do the test on steak and pork roast.	3	This doesn't really fit into the "effect of this on that" parameter, but maybe you can adjust your question to have it conform.
28	Pie_Devan	What is The difference between mountain bike speed and BMX bike speed	My BMX Bike and my mountain bike My street Tape measure. I'll ride and skid 10 times each	4	Hmmmmm. You are going to measure speed by measuring skid lenght? Perhaps you could test "max speed possible" on a variety of bikes, trying to hold most variables constant.
29	Prerna	Does music effect plant growth?	First I will buy about 20 plants. I will buy the same plant species, give them the same soil, water and sunlight. I will also play music for half of the plants, but not the other half. I will monitor the plants everyday.	3	Sounds familiar. What is the first "this"? It shouldn't be just 'music' or 'not, but perhaps level of volume. Also, plant growth is a long-term measurement.
30	Rara	What type of pizza is more popular?	Pizza, and peoples.	5	Too vague. Remember... "effect of X on Y"
31	Rara	What types of music affect your mood and how?	A music player, and five or six people to test it on. I'll play different types of music for each person and look at their mood through the day.	5	Quantifying mood is a really hard thing to do.
32	Ryan C.	How many times would my dog go in circles for a treat im holding? What kind attracts her the most?	I would have some edible object or a toy in my hand and spin it around her head. Then she would go around in circles trying to get the ball or edible object in my hand till she falls over or gives up. Then I will try other edible objects or toys to see if she would chase after peanut butter or a ball more or other objects that she would chase.	4	Ok, I can visualize a bar graph of your data that shows treat type and number of circles. Now, I can't visualize is the kind of generalizations or conclusions you can draw from that data.
33	Ryan Smith	How do different types of shoe tread help better in some situations than others?	Get different shoes with different treads, test them out in different climates and see which ones fair best or do badly.	4	Sounds like a good idea but you need to refine your question and process. be more specific.
34	Ryan Smith	How much distance does abs save instead of a non-abs car	Use mom's car (with ABS) and drive in a straight line and brake hard Measure the distance. get another car without abs and brake hard, and measure distance	3	Nice. Try to do this with more than one example of each type. It will be hard to hold other variables constant (vehicle mass, tire type and size, pedal push, etc). Sufficiently challenging
35	Theodor	What is the effect of the brightness on the amout of headache you have?	1 computer, 10 volunteers, Electricity, Lots of time.	4	Like I wrote to Alec, measuring headache level will be a challenge because it is subjective. If you can figure out a solution for that, then go ahead.
36	Theodor	What is the effect of what hand you prefer and what foot you prefer	I need 10 volunteers and record which hand they prefer and what foot they prefer.	4	What is the "that" in your situation?
37	Tuisku	Does sugar change my work time	For example: if I brought chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies to school not sharing it to friends. How will I know if someone tries to grab it out of my reach as I watch it disappeared? this is what I do for this experiment: I need to know who ate how many cookies? I need long paper with a pen, but when I discovered a principle holding cookies way up in the air since that principle was tall enough in the air as I realized no MORE cookies! so I decided not to buy anything and I started working.	5	You'll have to explain this better so I can understand what you intend to do and measure. I don't think that you should be doing an experiment that involves cookies (or candy or chips).
