TODAY WE WILL ANALYZE & EXAMINE

THE SPSA IN RELATION TO THE LCAP

The SPSA

The School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) is of utmost importance to us as a staff because it is a "site plan created by a school team including the principal, teachers, parents, community partners, and, where applicable, secondary school students. The SPSA is a tool for sites to prioritize particular programs and strategies that will best serve their students, families, and the community." The SPSA must address how funds provided to the school will be used to improve the academic performance of all pupils; therefore, any money that we as a school spend must be stated in the SPSA. Any money that we have that is not allocated and specified in the SPSA we lose as it is absorbed by the district after a certain date.

The LCAP

The Local Control and Accountability Report (LCAP) Process: school districts like ERUSD are required to develop an LCAP that guides priorities in the budget development process.

Each district’s LCAP must be built around eight priority areas identified by the California Department of Education: 1) Access to core services 2) Implementation of Common Core State Standards 3) Access to a broad course of study 4) Student achievement 5) Other student outcomes 6) Student engagement 7) Parent involvement 8) School climate

The SPSA should be a direct reflection of the district's LCAP.

-Confusing as to what the total amount is for materials; $47K(page 55) is not enough for materials and supplies for our program

-What is the LCAP funding for each goal?

-The SPSA funding numbers look low compared to the LCAP funding in correlation to the population of students (we have the most students- is funding proportional?)

When comparing our SPSA to the district’s LCAP, what does the SPSA reveal about our values at ERHS? What have we chosen to focus on to address the needs of students?

  • Money being spent on support systems for parents & students as were returned from distance learning
  • LCAP does not identify specific strategies for support/engagement/increasing Desired Outcomes → focuses on measurables (but not how those measurables will be achieved)
  • SPSA provides more detailed outline of strategies to focus on student engagement (social, emotional, and academic)
  • SPSA shows less money being spent on parent engagement, but the LCAP seems to prioritize parent engagement

When comparing our SPSA to the district’s LCAP, what does the SPSA reveal about our values at ERHS? What have we chosen to focus on to address the needs of students?

Group 1: Goal 1

Group 2: Goal 2

Group 3: Goal 3

-Funding- on page 55 there is a lack of clarity as to the amount of money is total

-The LCAP vs. SPSA funding aren’t comparable

WHAT IS ACTUALLY BEING SPENT IS NOT DISCUSSED!

-LCAP doesn’t identify specific strategies for engagement; doesn’t reflect HOW

-LCAP is focused on parent on engagement but SPSA doesn’t reflect that

WHAT IS ACTUALLY BEING SPENT IS NOT DISCUSSED!

-LCAP has a big emphasis on ELA and math progress; not as emphasized on the SPSA

-There is a lack of transparency as to what the SPSA says and what is being spent

-PD is referenced in the SPSA; how often do we train our teachers? (or district only trains our teachers to leave)
