1. GIROLAMO SAVONAROLA (1494-1498, ITALY): FLORENTINE RENAISSANCE REVIVAL (1494-1498).

  • Man of piety and devotion to God.
  • Man who desperately sought God’s revival.
  • “Contempt of the World” at age 22
  • Vision from God
  • "Bonfire of the Vanities" ~ February 1497
  • excommunicated, arrested, and executed in 1498
  • a pioneer of the Protestant Reformation.
  • Martin Luther deems a “Protestant martyr.

MARTIN LUTHER (1483-1546): �LEADING THE PROTESTANT REFORMATION (1517-?).

  • Man of deep Conviction and Faith based on words of God (Rom. 1:17). "For in the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: 'The righteous will live by faith.'"
  • Man of courage and boldness. April 17, 1521, Luther stood before the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V defending his biblical conviction. “Here I stand, I can do no other.”
  • Luther’s criticisms of the Roman Catholic Church led to a broader Protestant Reformation, reshaping the landscape of Christianity in Europe and later around the world.

HOLY CLUB AT OXFORD UNIVERSITY: �THE FIRST GREAT AWAKENING (1714-1770)

  • 1730’s formed the “Holy Club” at Univerity of Oxford.
  • “Holy Trio” ~ John Wesley, aged 35; Charles Wesley, aged 31; and George Whitefield, only 18 years old.
  • Sought to live holy life through prayer, Bible study, and self-examination.
  • New Year's Day, 1739 : love-feast in London at Getter's Lane - later referred to as the Methodist Pentecost.
  • God used this meeting to ignite the First Great Awakening in America and England.

GEORGE WHITEFIELD (1714-1770): �FIRST GREAT AWAKENING (1734-1743).

  • Man of prayer, compassion, ture humility and great preacher.
  • Preached twice day during his weeklong honeymoon, even the day before his death - at age 55.
  • preached more than 18,000 sermons—an average of five hundred a year—10-20 times a week for a thirty-year period.
  • Through his sermons, God ignited the flames of revival across two continents, America, and Europe.

CHARLES FINNEY (1792-1875):�SECOND GREAT AWAKENING (1800-1840).

FATHER OF MODERN REVIVALISM

  • Man- full of the Holy Spirit and led by the holy Spirit.
  • He studied in law and read Bible for the first time at the age of 29.
  • Jeremiah 29:12-13 ~“12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
  • Daniel Nash - prayer warrior who became a key part of every revival that Charles led for the next seven years until Daniel's death.
  • 1930 - Rochester, New York-the pinnacle of the Second Great Awakening and ignited a national revival that spread like wildfire throughout the United States in 1831.
  • Dec. 20, 1831 - Father Nash dies at age 56- Charles becomes a pastor of several churches
  • August 16, 1875 - Charles dies at 83.
  • God used him to trigger the Second Great Awakening and unify the country around the Bible and the power of prayer.

EVAN ROBERTS: (1878-1951): �WELSH REVIVAL (1904-1905)

  • Man of prayer: At 13, he prayed for God to fill him with the Holy Spirit and send revival to Wales
  • Thursday morning, October 27, 1904 ~ powerful spiritual encounter with the Lord after 13 year of prayer.
  • Man of God’s vison: October 1932, "My work is confined to prayer, and it is to such that I have devoted myself for the last twenty-five years... I work as hard at prayer as if I had undertaken any other form of religious work... By preaching, I would reach the limited few—by and through prayer, I can reach the whole of mankind for God.“
  • news of the revival in Wales and bringing about revivals on all six continents of the world.

��JOHN HYDE: (1892-1912)

(CENTRAL AND NORTHERN INDIA REVIVAL: 1904-1907)

  • Man of prayer "Praying Hyde“ : American missonary to India
  • Arrived in central India in 1892, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and began to pray for revival
  • April 1904 - Punjab Prayer Union was found and revival came after 12 years of prayer
  • 1904 to 1909 - number of Christians in the Punjab quadrupled from 37,695 to 163,994. Christian population increased by 69.9%

Campus revivals (17 campuses).

founding of the Student Volunteer Movement, from which in the next fifty years 20,000 students were sent to the mission fields.

1905-1908

Campus revivals (12 campuses).

Out of the revivals came thousands of volunteers for missionary service, and “new interdenominational faith missions” were founded.

Wheaton Revivals (5 times).

(Jan. 13, 1936, February 1943, 1948, February 4, 1950, and 1970)

Asbury revivals (7 times).

(Winter of 1905, early in 1907, February 18, 1908, early 1950, March 2, 1958, February 3, 1970, and Feb of this year 2023).

  • 1995 ~ God gives Exodus 19:5-6 “A Kingdom of Priests and A Holy Nation” to Dr. Samuel Lee
  • More than 1,000 from Chicago UBF attended MSU Bible Conference in 1997, and over 500 worshipers
  • raised many full-time native leaders Ron Ward, Jim Rabchuk, Mark Vucekovich, Kevin Albright, Teddy Hembekides, Ben Toh, and so on

REFLECTION

  • Encounted the Creator God through Gen. 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
  • I came to America Oct.1993 as a missionary and TWD master.
  • In 2020 joined the Helpmates meeting, in Oct. 2021 started mission revival prayer meeting which have been a great blessing on my spiritual journey.
  • God blessed our family to serve God with one heart and mind thorugh prayer and engage in physical exercise together. God has blessed one to one ministry and registration for the conference.
  • 3 common traits they all revivalists possessed: seeking a holy life, loving for the Word of God, and dedicating to prayer.

2. Are you longing for a greater power of the Holy Spirit in your own life and work, and are you convinced that you cannot go on without this power?

4. Do you believe that prayer is the great means for securing this spiritual awakening?

  1. Will you set apart one-half hour each day to pray for this awakening, and are you willing to pray until the awakening comes?
