TODAY WE WILL ANALYZE & EXAMINE
THE SPSA IN RELATION TO THE LCAP
The SPSA
The School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) is of utmost importance to us as a staff because it is a "site plan created by a school team including the principal, teachers, parents, community partners, and, where applicable, secondary school students. The SPSA is a tool for sites to prioritize particular programs and strategies that will best serve their students, families, and the community." The SPSA must address how funds provided to the school will be used to improve the academic performance of all pupils; therefore, any money that we as a school spend must be stated in the SPSA. Any money that we have that is not allocated and specified in the SPSA we lose as it is absorbed by the district after a certain date.
The LCAP
The Local Control and Accountability Report (LCAP) Process: school districts like ERUSD are required to develop an LCAP that guides priorities in the budget development process.
Each district’s LCAP must be built around eight priority areas identified by the California Department of Education: 1) Access to core services 2) Implementation of Common Core State Standards 3) Access to a broad course of study 4) Student achievement 5) Other student outcomes 6) Student engagement 7) Parent involvement 8) School climate
The SPSA should be a direct reflection of the district's LCAP.

Goal 1 is on pages 54 - 59
Need #1: address learning loss due to distance learning that can affect college and career readiness.
How: - “provide students with opportunities above and beyond the core”
When comparing our SPSA to the district’s LCAP, what does the SPSA reveal about our values at ERHS? What have we chosen to focus on to address the needs of students?
Analyze ERHS’s SPSA in comparison to the district’s LCAP
What are current $ amounts
Do you feel that we are missing anything? (a focus, a population, a need, …)

Goal 2 is on pages 60 - 64
35,000 on parent liaison salary but person left was how was that money used?
SSO shortage so hiring there or actually getting parent volunteers through the parent liaison would help with school safety and stopping the kids from being all over doing questionable things
On strategy 2 what were those parent activities, what do parents want to happen?
What else could we do for school safety? Drug dog was $1000 a year i think BRING IT BACK BRING IT BACK BRING IT BACK less problems in bathrooms and possibly less maintenance costs, overdose on campus in news
LCAP says focus on ELs and reclassify but nothing in our goal 2 mentions that, LCAP mentions Honors and CTE but nothing in this goal area, have ELs been asked about what they really need and their counseling services
How about a blue pride day or multiple blue pride days for school involvement? Other involvement activities needed that not just for sports, ask parents what they want too
Parent liaison could also help with attendance/tardy numbers
When comparing our SPSA to the district’s LCAP, what does the SPSA reveal about our values at ERHS? What have we chosen to focus on to address the needs of students?
Analyze ERHS’s SPSA in comparison to the district’s LCAP
See above, missing EL, attendance, honors, CTE
More lunch time activities and no places to sit and kids start to wander around or want to go into classes
Ask kids what they want to make them feel safer, what do parents want done
Salazar bound kids are not focused on and EL reclassification, counseling for them or asking what they need or really trying to see if the kids need to go before 11th grade for special cases
Get more parent volunteers and parents involved by requests for volunteers, teachers make a list of everything that they would want volunteers to do and maybe have parents sign up to get it accomplished
Do you feel that we are missing anything? (a focus, a population, a need, …)

The LCAP Goal 3
(Single Plan for Student Achievement)
The SPSA: Goal 3 / Group 3
Use the link to access the 2021-2022 SPSA
Goal 3 is on pages 65 - 73
ERUSD is looking at overall outcome, is more broad, focused on final goal
ERHS wants to see growth- climbing the stairway as opposed to taking the elevator
ERHS appears to be more realistic- building towards the end point
ERUSD percentage goals not taking Covid years into consideration
District appears to have different philosophy with CAASPP math and ELA growth
ERHS Annual Measurable outcomes and baselines do not connect
When comparing our SPSA to the district’s LCAP, what does the SPSA reveal about our values at ERHS? What have we chosen to focus on to address the needs of students?
Analyze ERHS’s SPSA in comparison to the district’s LCAP
How does ERUSD determine percentage growth?
Will ERUSD take Covid years into consideration when developing goals? Covid years have impacted socialization and has created learning loss - ERUSD needs to acknowledge the impact on student learning.
Do you feel that we are missing anything? (a focus, a population, a need, …)
Analyze ERHS’s SPSA in comparison to the district’s LCAP
Goal 1:
On paper it appears tech and materials are a priority. In reality, does not appear to be happening- other than chromebooks.
Goal 2:
Big chunk of funds to sports, parent liaison (did we have one). Needs to be more activities for students. Drug dogs, why are they not being used if safety is a priority? Need more SSO’s if safety is a concern. Parent liaison should be utilized to aid with attendance.
Goal 3:
ERUSD needs to share process for setting goal.
ERUSD needs to show a true understanding of how Covid years are impacting student learning.
