Copyright metas

Copyright metas in Bangladesh are quite strong, there is very little deviation.

  • 2022 can be seen mostly in Dhaka and Mymensingh

  • 2023 is consistent in Sylhet, Barishal, Khulna, Rajshahi – these regions have no 2022 coverage at all. Rangpur was majorly covered in 2023, overwriting most of 2022 coverage but not all of it.

  • Dhaka and Mymensingh can, however, have 2023 copyright.

  • Chittagong has both 2022 and 2023.

Some locs have been re-copyrighted with 2024

Shitcam coverage

Bangladesh, like India, received some “shitcam coverage”. Luckily though, it can only be found in the division of Dhaka, more precisely – in the Capital, west and south-west of it.

Several cars can be seen:

It can be of use to memorize the look of the cars to be able to tell Bangladesh and India apart. Otherwise, looking for Bengali in urban areas is your best bet.

Architecture

In general, two types of roofs can be seen throughout Bangladesh, creating an east/west divide.

  • “Western roofs” have a pointy end. Popular in Khulna, Rajshahi and Dhaka.

  • “Eastern roofs” form a triangle. Popular in Mymensingh, Sylhet and northern Dhaka.

  • Barishal, Chittagong and Rangpur widely have both types.

  • Western divisions (Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur) commonly have West Bengal roofs, seen in West Bengal region of India. WB roofs have triangular brick/concrete walls on the sides where the metal sheet of the roof would overhang.

  • Khulna is also known for having tiled roofs.

Rice production

The length and overall appearance (or absence!) of rice is a great clue as to where in the country of Bangladesh you may be. Rice is visible in the majority of locations in NM and can be easily reached in Moving. States of rice are pictured on the next slide.

  • Spring rice can be seen in Khulna, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Barishal. Even though Barishal coverage was taken at the same time as Khulna’s, Barishal rice is usually greener and longer.

  • Winter rice can be seen mostly in Sylhet, rarely in southern Khulna and parts of Chittagong. It is distinctly beige.

  • Early fall rice is long and green, can be seen in Rangpur and Chittagong. Late fall rice is yellow/orange, but not quite beige yet. Can be seen in Rajshahi and Chittagong.

  • Dhaka was majorly covered in the offseason – the rice has been harvested but hasn’t been replanted yet. The fields look empty and barren.

Agriculture

  • Western divisions (Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur) very frequently feature corn and fruit trees. Corn can also be seen in western Mymensingh and in small patches in Barishal. Western bordering pockets of Rajshahi and Rangpur are distinct, with massive rows/orchards of fruit trees.

  • Due to when coverage was taken, jute is exclusive to Rangpur.

  • Rapeseed/canola can be seen exclusively in Dhaka. It is a low-growing bright yellow crop.

  • Sunflower fields grace the southern parts of Barishal. Barishal is also known for watermelons and various low-growing green crops (Grasspea, coriander, chilli, lentil, mungbean, etc)

  • Most of the tea you encounter is in Sylhet, in the hilly south. However, there are tea plantations in Chittagong as well.

Tree guide

Vegetation can also be a major key to “solving” Bangladesh.

  • Eucalyptus is more commonly seen in the north. It is recognized by its white bark. Abundance of eucalyptus in the distance and eucalyptus lining the road is a typical Rangpur / Rajshahi landscape.

  • Coastal trees are self explanatory, can be seen anywhere on the coast. But they are most prominent in Chittagong division, where they can also be seen quite inland.

Districts (Psycho mode)

Bangladesh is divided into 64 districts, which frequently appear on address lines on advertisements/posters all over the country. District names correspond with names of major cities, thus are easy to remember or just scan for. District is the last word in the address line before |

What you need to know in Bengali language is consonants, as the vowels “stick” to them. Most useful syllable is [pur] – পুর , as it is the ending of many district and city names. Also good to look out for word Bazar - বাজার

Being able to tell characters apart can be of great use, as you can simply compare what you see on the ad to place names on the map.
