Planning for MLLs -Key Considerations

By referring to the STEP Level, the Task Quadrant and the principles of universal design for learning.

Based on the STEP Level to support student learning of content & acquisition of English.

As a resource using various tools

To make culturally relevant connections to the content.

Including pictures, visuals, video clips, adapted text, graphic organizers, etc.

In a variety of multiple modalities e.g. SWRL - Speaking, Writing, Reading Listening, Graphic organizers (e.g. see Mohan Knowledge Framework)

That teach academic language through content

And how to leverage it in a meaningful way to support student learning and well being.

By developing a variety of effective formative assessment practices based on the principles of universal design.
