During this lesson we are going to:

Grammar

Can you find the difference between the following two sentences?

  1. “I want to listen to Sean’s CD’, Jay said.
  2. Jay said that he wanted to listen to Sean’s CD.

We use the reported speech in the second sentence to report the meaning of what someone said, without using their exact words. We use a reporting verb, usually say or tell, followed by that (which can be omitted) and the reported statement.

(Ми використовуємо непряму мову у другому реченні, щоб передати те, що хтось сказав. Ми використовуємо дієслово say або tell, за ним слово “що”= that (яке можна опустити) і непряме твердження.)
