The style of art that Kruger is known for is PostModern Art. She studied at Syracuse University and Parsons School of Design in NY. Before becoming a professional artist, she worked at various ad agencies and as a graphic artist at Conde Nast. Using her graphic design background Kruger has created a very recognizable style of art. |

Narration/Voiceover: The messages are catchy phrases that are meant to get the viewer thinking. For example, “I shop, therefore I am” is a slogan, adapted from the French philosopher Descartes (Day cart), that is commenting on people in consumer based cultures like here in the US. Kruger explained, “I try to deal with the complexities of power and social life, but as far as the visual presentation goes I purposely avoid a high degree of difficulty. I want people to be drawn into the space of the work.” Here we see a photograph of someone using an eye dropper and the phrase “The future belongs to those who can see it” is cascading down the side of the frame. |
