The Genesis of ICI dates back to the year 1982, when SERC Chennai and Anna University jointly conducted an International Seminar on Modern Concrete Construction Practices. ICI is focused towards advocating the concept of sustainability in construction practices. Many of the ICI events are focused on achieving sustainability through innovative materials and techniques.

RDC Concrete (India) Pvt Ltd is the largest independent ready mixed concrete company in India established in 1993 .

The company manufactures and supplies Ready Mix Concrete (RMC). Its portfolio of customers includes construction companies, real estate developers, contractors, infrastructure companies, Commercial Projects and individuals house builders. Apart from normal concrete mixes of various grades, RDC Concrete also produces special concrete solutions using its world class infrastructure and technology and ensures product and service quality. ��Currently RDC Concrete has 74 plants across India with an annual turnover of 1500 crore.

National Cube Test Competition

• The objective of the competition is to create awareness & promote the understanding of materials, mix proportioning and right application of cement concrete mix to achieve the desired strength.

​

• Hands on experience of mix design to the participants for development of good quality concrete.

Objective of competition

The competition aims to encourage young Engineers and Professionals to learn the technique of concrete mix designs with adequate precision with locally available ingredients, after testing the ingredients.

Categories

The competition is being organized in three categories

​

1. Student Category: Civil engineering students of engineering colleges

2. Professional Category: Civil engineers practicing in the field of construction, Contractors / clients / consultants

3. Expert Category: Professional Ready Mix Manufacturers and test labs of government or private institutes.

The Competition

• To design workable M30 concrete mix with locally available materials to produce cube compressive strength of 33-35MPa at 28days, which should not exceed 40MPa.

​

• Negative marking for strength above 35MPa and below 33 MPa .

​

• Samples with Strength above 40MPa and below 30MPa Strength will be disqualified.

​

• No Fiber or reinforcement to be used.

​

The Competition

Participants have to submit 3 concrete cubes (150 mm size) along with final mix design and :

​

​

• Marking (X) on the concrete face for testing along with address & contact no. of the team in a separate paper

​

• Code No. will be marked by test lab/RDC

The Competition

The concrete cubes will be assessed by jury members on following parameters:

• Accuracy in achievement of target strength
• Uniformity of test results, Variation.
• Evaluation of Mix sheet
• Visual observation of cubes with respect to shape, finishing, fracture after testing
• Economy of design, Regional material cost values will be shared, over which cost evaluation will be done.

The Competition

• Participants to submit the cubes at the designated test laboratory after 14 days with proper packing

​

• Participants can witness the cube testing

​

• If asked for, the winners may have to come to the place of testing along with all ingredients to produce the concrete mix before the judges prior to the distribution of awards.

• Runner Team – ₹25,000/-
• Winner Team – ₹50,000/-

Trial Period December 2022 – February 2023

Casting of Cubes 1^st Week of March 23

Submission of Cubes 3^rd Week of March 23

Testing of Cubes 4^th Week of March 23 & 1^st Week of April 2023

Result Declaration 2^nd Week of April.

Award Function Concrete Day (7^th September 2023)

Tips for concrete mix optimization with Ultrafine Materials

​

1. Understand the behavior & strength development of the Ultrafine material being used in concrete mix.
2. Understand the water demand of concrete with the cement .
3. Select clean aggregates with least amount of silt and clay
4. Proportion aggregates with a grading optimum for cohesive, non-segregating workable concrete.
5. Cast and cure the cubes carefully to get consistent results.
