Handy forms to request help on the HSL website

Powerful Libraries search of our entire catalog and more

The first thing we recommend is to bookmark our Health Sciences Library website and build that habit of starting your research here. Going through our website is the best way to ensure any databases you’re using know you’re affiliated with the University of Minnesota, and saves you the step of configuring proxy access.

Even if you know you’re just going to search PubMed, having our website easily accessible will help you become familiar with the other databases, tools, and services we have to offer you.

So, I’m going to give you a quick little tour here. (Would you please click that website link?) (0:30)

You’ll see that at the top, our search bar is set to search PubMed by default, but you can also change it to search the libraries’ collections and other parameters.

We have tabs at the top for our resources, spaces, services, and events – but you can also scroll down on the main page to access each section. (And if you wouldn’t mind scrolling down to each section as I discuss them, I would appreciate it)

In our resources section, we have columns devoted to the most-used databases, journals, and guides in the health sciences. But if you click the gold buttons at the top, for example where it says “all health sciences topics,” you can see all of our guides broken down by type, and you can also look for specific subject guides or course guides.
In our spaces section, you can find information about our physical spaces and services, including our hours and contact info, pages for spaces we support like the VR studio and Makerspace, and reservation options for study spaces and our 1:Button Studios which are designed as professional recording spaces.
In our services section, you can view some of the services we can assist you with, and request them directly from this page. While you’re always welcome to contact us directly, this is a convenient way for you to become familiar with the scope of our services.
Finally, in our events and news section, you can view upcoming events and workshops and see recent exhibits and news articles about the projects we’ve been involved in.
And please keep in mind that you can always click on this green button at the bottom of the page for 24/7 access to chat with library staff.
