REGIONAL Problem of Practice: What issue, challenge or need exists for individuals with Autism that our Regional Network wants to try to address?
Current Regional Issue, Challenge or Problems of Practice
Our Cadre determined that the problem of practice was related to mental health needs of students, staff, and parents due to the COVID pandemic. More support and coaching was recognized as a need. Cadre are providing trainings in their individual SELPAs on different EBPs. Cadre reviewed EBPs related to Mental Health and prioritized the EBPs. Training opportunities will be provided across SELPAs/within cadre to address needs.
Probable Root Cause of the Problem (identify the top probable root cause)
Lots of new members. Difficult finding the time to attend trainings. Expectations have also evolved.
Change Ideas (list 1 change idea for the probable root cause)
Accessing resources through the Captain website and becoming more familiar with what is offered.
Action plan to support change idea (may need additional space to action plan)
At each CLIC meeting review required documents (training and coaching fidelity forms, pre/post knowledge assessments, fidelity checklists, needs assessments, EPB matrix) and discuss implementation.

To implement coaching and training with fidelity.

Goal Area 1 (Collaboration): Provide training on EBP’s that will support with mental health. Focus is in the school setting.

Cadre will determine teams and plan meetings to develop training, utilizing the EBP Trainings, pre/post assessments provided by CAPTAIN
Secondary Objective (2)
Cadre will use the High Quality Training & Coaching criteria to implement training and coaching on the EBPs for mental health within their SELPA.
Expected level of Outcome (3)
Cadre will complete the training series related to agreed upon EBPs that address mental health needs.
Exceeds Expected Outcome (4)
Cadre will complete training and coaching on 5 or more EBPs.
Goal Area 2 (Dissemination): How can members of our Regional Network strategically disseminate to groups identified by the region as needing to know about ASD and EBPs/CAPTAIN

Cadre are presenting/training/coaching to groups within their own SELPAs; Cadre agree that cross presenting with other Cadre members will support collaboration & build skills as well as benefit staff & families outside of each other’s SELPAs.

Provide 1 information session (90 min) on an EBP to district staff. Conduct a pre/post knowledge assessment.

Problem of Practice: Do we need to change the focus of our current POP?
Our Cadre determined that the problem of practice was related to mental health needs of students, staff, and parents due to the COVID pandemic. More support and coaching was recognized as a need.

Collaborating & sharing EBPs across all educational settings; including General Education!!

General Education teachers - bridging EBP knowledge & understanding-marketing with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 with the MTSS model; fidelity checklists & pre/post tests; using the guidance from CAPTAIN to make sure we are following through with the design of the EBP & its research/evidence with fidelity.

Staffing continues to be a barrier; within our own Cadre we have grown as a region and have had some change of Cadre members over the last few years.
Change Ideas (list 1 change idea for the probable root cause)
Plan and execute a Cadre driven EBP Conference that is available for parents, educators, and college students within our region.
Action plan to support change idea (may need additional space to action plan)
In person meetings where we can collaborate and get to know each other personally would help with developing partnerships to disseminate information.
Collaborating on a “Conference” would help to build relationships & foster using fidelity checklists/process within our group.

At least 200 in attendance for the EBP Conference
Goal Area 1 (Collaboration): How can Cadre Collaborate to address the region’s specific need, issue or challenge that relates to individual with autism and their families
We don’t have a current survey; need to create a survey, plan & facilitate an EBP Conference.

Create a needs survey & send it out to Cadre to share within SELPAs; secure facility and review the data.
Secondary Objective (2)
Based on the needs survey, determine areas to support & create groups/plan trainings

Hold the EBP conference and have representation from all SELPAs in attendance

Follow up with post survey & aim for 80% return.

We’ve identified that reaching out to Gen Ed teachers/staff is an area of need; we have determined that many EBPs align with MTSS and PBIS initiatives. Some districts are being supported by behavior specialists are supporting Gen Ed behavior initiatives.

Our Cadre will contact Gen Ed admin from each of our regions to share information on EBPs- planting a seed on infographic

Offer/invite at least one admin to a training and/or presentation
