Sport” comes from the Old French “desport” meaning "leisure." American English uses the term "sports" to refer to this general type of recreational activity, whereas other regional dialects use the singular "sport".

Track and field is categorized under the umbrella sport of athletics, which also includes road running, cross country running, and race walking.�

  • Remember!
  • You can add - -er to the end of many verbs to make nouns. the verb.
  • E.g. bake – baker, destroy – destroyer, rob – robber. These word endings (suffixes) sound like 'er' so be careful with spelling.
