Registration

  • Every student will complete their base school registration.
  • We will create folders for each student - we take into account early college & magnet acceptances
  • If a student moves or is accepted into a different school after we register for classes, that student will register on paper with Ms. Porter and she will send it to the new school.

Registering for Elective Classes

  • Students will register for electives on paper in science classes, then in Infinite Campus through WakeID.
  • Students must have their own Infinite Campus/WakeID accounts.

Course Selection for 9th Grade

  • 8th grade teachers have made recommendations based on high school guidelines

  • If the recommendation is not what you hoped for, have your student talk with their teacher before or after school..

  • Students taking NC Math I or NC Math II in 7th/8th grade may earn a high school credit in Math, but the grade will not be part of the high school GPA.

Each student will select 8 courses and 3 or 4 alternate elective courses (depending on school):

  1. English
  2. Math - If taking a “bridge” math class before NCMath I or NC Math II, you will be taking 2 math classes. One as elective credit & the other a core credit.

World Language - When to take it?

World Language is NOT required for graduation but 2 credits are required to meet minimum admission requirements for UNC system.

High Schools will give priority to upperclassmen for first credit of World Languages.

If a student earned HS credit in MS, they will be able to take the second or third credit in 9th grade.

If they have not, they will more than likely start in 10th

10th- Part 1 (Fall) / Part 2 (Spring)

11th- Part 3 (Fall) / Part 4 (Spring)

Arts Education (New for Class of 2029 and going forward)

  • All students must complete at least ONE arts education course between grades 6-12
  • Students who have completed semester or year long arts course in middle school, (band, chorus, full arts course) the requirement is met
  • Students who have not met the requirement must complete a beginning arts course
