Share your Name!

Our names are all very important!

With your table group, share what your name (or preferred name) is and how you got that name

Vocabulary

  • Identity: everything that makes up who you are

  • Sculpture: a three dimensional form

  • Balance: all the elements (line, shape, color) in a composition look stable or have a feeling of balance (like one side is not heavier than the other).

  • Large scale: artworks that are HUGE! Bigger than life size and usually made out of unusual materials (not always)

  • Small scale: the opposite of large scale! These works usually have a lot of detail and smaller than life sized objects

Step 1- Mind Map

  • Create a sketch of your name in the middle of your paper

  • On the outside, write 5 things about yourself that represent who you are and what you like

Step 2

  • Begin drawing your name on the final paper

  • Trace your name using a black Sharpie

Step 3

  • Add drawings that represent your hobbies or things you like inside of each letter

  • Begin to color in your drawings and tracing them with a Sharpie

Step 4

  • Draw a base for your sculpture, it can be any shape as long as it is sturdy enough to hold your letters

  • Color it in and cut it out

Step 5

  • Cut out each letter individually

  • Don’t forget to write your name on the back of each letter and your base

Step 6

  • Cut out a strip of paper

  • Fold it in 3 to create a triangle

  • Unfold your strip to color it in to match your base

  • Glue it to your base

Step 7

  • You will use slots to connect your letters together

  • Place a letter on your base and cut a slit on both to connect them

  • Once connected, secure the letters with glue

Step 8

  • Continue to connect your letters using slots and secure them using glue

  • Finish glueing your letters until your name sculpture is completed

  • Upload your artwork into Artsonia
  • Make sure to write a Title
  • Answer the artist statement question in AT LEAST one sentence
