ਅੱਧੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।
ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲ ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸਦੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ 'ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਮੁਸਕਰਾਹਟ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ।

ਦਰੱਖਤ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ, ਪੁਲ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ, ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਟਰਾਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੂੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਛੱਡੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਜਲਦੀ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਝੀਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਲੰਘਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੱਸਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਦਿਖਦੀ ਸੀ।

ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੋਕ ਸਕਦਾ!
ਉਹ ਅਗਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਵੀ ਭੱਜਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਆਰਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ।
ਕਲੈਂਕ ਕਲੈਂਕ, ਰੇਲ ਗੱਡੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ, ਮੁਸਕਰਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੋਈ। ਕਲੈਂਕਿਟੀ ਕਲੈਕ!

ਅਖੀਰ, ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁੱਜੀ। ਉਹ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੀ ਡਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਸੀ।
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੀਬ ਲੋਕ, ਅਜੀਬ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਿਸੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਗਤੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਉਸਦੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਦੀ ਮੁਸਕਰਾਹਟ ਫਿੱਕੀ ਪੈ ਗਈ।

ਰਾਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਗਈ ਸੀ।
ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਰ ਆਰਾਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਘਣੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿੱਚ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਸਤਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ।

ਅਚਾਨਕ, ਨੇੜਲੀ ਝਾੜੀ ਹਿੱਲਣ ਲੱਗੀ।
ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਡਰਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਚੀਕੀ!
ਇੱਕ ਮੁੰਡਾ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਸਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ।

ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਜਾਦੂਈ ਬੰਸਰੀ ਫੜੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਜਾਉਂਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸੁਰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਧੁਨਾਂ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਰ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦੀ।

ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਨੱਚਣ ਲੱਗੀ, ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਫਿਰ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ।
ਮੁੰਡਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਲਗੱਡੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੰਗਲੀ ਜਾਨਵਰ ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਬੱਧੀ ਨੱਚਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
