Climate Change activities in CVTL

• Incorporate CC assessment in VCA tools (Seasonal calendar, FGD, Historical profile and Livelihood analysis)
• More focus on adaptation: Included in CAP to prepare and adapt for future climate risk
• CC is not stand alone program but it is integrated under existing CVTL program (ICBRR: Water and sanitation, community health, Disaster Risk Reduction, Livelihood and Youth)

Disaster Risk Reduction

CVTL assists communities at risk from natural disasters such as flooding, landslides, and high winds with training, evacuation planning, and some prevention in 9 villages (6 Municipalities)

• Stated that through the income we have made, we could use it to buy every day needs to sustain their daily life (Seloi, Fatirlau, Beco, Holpilat, Maquelab, Nanu)
• There were a lot of dead chickens in the past, but after they produced herbal medicine and apply it to their livestock, therefore no more dead chickens in their village. (Nanu)
• In the past we were suffer from hunger and did not provide any nutritious food for our children, but now we could provide various foods for our children from our own farm (Beco-Tudilpo)
• Beforehand, we produce plenty of Cassava from our farm, and many were thrown away because we have no enough place to store them, but now we could produce cassava chips and sell it in the kiosk to raise our income for our daily used (Fatirlau)

Challenge

• Lack of disaster preparedness: early warning system, evacuation planning
• Density population and river-bank
• Double disaster: cyclone Seroja and Covid19 pandemic
• Lack of community awareness/ conscience
• Community involvement in dengue operation
• The community are interest in physical activities than non-physical (training, awareness-raising, etc).
