Ancient Civilization Picture

Ancient Civilization Reflection

Paragraph #1- Explain what everything symbolizes in your picture. Our houses represent our living areas for people and are represented by triangles. Our rivers are the water sources for all living things in our society and are represented by blue and purple strings. The circles with bird seeds in the middle are the farms and are located in the center so people can go inside the society instead of outward. An index for the drawings is shown in the picture

Paragraph #2- Explain the difference between a neolithic society and a Paleolithic society. Name one invention that assisted the most with this transition. Paleolithic society lives in a nomadic lifestyle meaning that they aren’t in a fixed society and they are bare bones hunters. Neolithic society rely more on agriculture (which they discovered more through their revolution), and decided one place to stay. Also, neolithic societies domesticated animals more and an invention that separates the two heavily is knapping which is the creation of tools and weapons.

Paragraph #3- After our discussion, What did your group forget to add in the civilization? If you did not forget anything, what was your thought process to determine what you’d need? Our group needed a government, animals, and more locations.

Early Pastoralists:

1. What are pastoralists? When, why, and in what areas did they emerge?

2. Describe pastoralist tribes and clans.

3. Describe gender equity in pastoral societies. What is an egalitarian society?

4. Describe the onset of Trade between nomadic and sedentary groups.

5. What impacts did pastoralists have on the environment?

Early Pastoralists Answers:Pastoralists are individuals who lived off of flocks and herds of animals.Groups of extended families move place to place after overuse of land and resources in a designated areaWomen had respectable roles in some pastoral societies more than others and were led by menSocitiets traded to keep the peacePastoral Nomadism changed and still changes the landscape less overtly than arable or mixed farming but still has a huge impact

List your best Thesis Statement: One way that religion changed prior to 1200 CE is the emergence and spread of christianity.

Reflection Answers (Must be detailed and at least one paragraph per response):

The Neolithic Revolution would lead to injustices because of cultural difference, and social classes. Before the Neolithic Revolution, the world would be more egalitarian, with both men and women working towards the same goal of getting food. An example of this was the Caste system in India. This systemmade the goal of life for lower class to die and try to be reincarnated into a higher one.

Neolithic technology would change the world forever and these same inventions would still be used to this day. Some examples are the wheel, which would easily wallow transportation, and also when paired with other inventions such as the levi, would allow more industrial inventions to come along.Interrogation trade routes would help the spread of religion because of the connections with diferent cultures. An example is the silk roads, whic would connect Asia with other parts of the world and many different religions with each otherCentralized governments are where both executive and legislative power is all concentrated at one higher level, instead of being distributed through many different people. An example of this would be the song dynastySix Significant TermsEgalitarian - VVrelating to or believing in the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.Patriarchal - characteristic of a system of society or government controlled by meCenterilazed Government - A centralized government is one in which both executive and legislative power is concentrated centrally at the higher level as opposed to it being more distributed at various lower level governments.Decentralized - A restructure of a governmentSpeciaized Labor - When labor is divided into multiple divisions for tasksCross cultural

SAQ Response:

One continuity in the political system of China between 1200-1750 is confucian concepts. Confucian concepts were used to form the Qing dynasty’s government structure and utilized ideas such as respecting your elders/higher-ups and showing good morals/character. I chose this answer because throughout Periods 1 and 2, Confucian concepts continue to show as a Chinese continuity in multiple dynasties such as the Yuan and Ming. One change in the political system of China was the implementation of the civil service examination system. The civil service examination system added a more strict structure on regulations and more emphasis on confucian ideas in texts. This change caused China to not rely on social status for selecting officials but instead off merit.

One way in which political continuities as China influenced the development of the global economy was by trade in the silk road. During this period, the Silk road was still used as a trade route but stated to trade with the europeans to receive silver for currency. I selected this answer because with the Ming Dynasty trading with the silk road, this shows that even in period 2 it is still utilized for similar reasons.

Renaissance Answers:

  1. Prior to the Renaissance, Europe was Eastern Orthodox Christian due to the Byzantine Empire's influence at the time. When the renaissance began they shifted to Roman Catholic religion because of the conflicts that split christianity into two, Roman Catholic and Orthodox christian and geographically they were located where Roman Catholic influence thrived.

2. The shift from being a hunter gatherer society heavily helped Europe develop. Since agriculture helped food production become more stable, the population increased because people wouldn't have to migrate for food.

Food For Thought

Columbian Exchange Cook-off Reflection

  1. Explain the Grade Level project and what you are doing in each class.
  2. How did the field trip to NoMas and the High Museum prepare you for the cookoff?
  3. Describe the columbian Exchange. Also, describe the impact that the Columbian Exchange had on indigenous populations and culture.
  4. Was it difficult to cook with foods from one hemisphere? How did your food taste? What ingredients do you wish that you could add?
  5. What is your favorite meal? Explain the ingredients and what hemisphere each item comes from.

Reflection Answers:

  1. The grade level project is called Food For Thought and we are doing certain tasks that correlate with each class. For art we are making food/objects out of clay that directly connects to our Columbian Exchange activity in AP World History when we made a dish with our group from ingredients depending on what hemisphere we were assigned. In spanish class, we created an entire restaurant menu for the food for thought project influenced by hispanic cultured foods across the world and had a skit of ordering these foods as either a patron or server. In World Literature class, we were assigned to create an original food recipe with the ingredients we were given in AP World History. As we create our recipes we have to incorporate something that impacts or influences our identity. Overall, this PBL project has did an excellent job of connecting all classes for this project.
  2. The field trip to NoMas and the High Museum was a great kick-off to this PBL. I think the field trip to NoMas and High Museum not only helped for the cook off but also helped for my project in spanish. Since we were able to see a different cultural menu and practice ordering in spanish it made it easier for me in Ms. GIlkeys class. Also, it gave me ideas of how to cook some ingredients on the western hemisphere of the Columbian exchange.
  3. The columbian exchange was an exchange between the americas (The New World), Europe, and africa and it was the exchange of diseases, ideas, goods, food, slaves, and currencies. Due to The columbian exchange transferring diseases with the indigenous people traded, it brought a severe decrease in population and increased death rates because of little to know knowledge of how to fight these diseases. A good example of this is the caribbean. The old world brought diseases with slaves to the caribbean which is apart of the new world and brought a heavy death toll to their population.
  4. In my opinion it wasn’t too difficult to cook with the foods from one hemisphere. However, some things would have helped our food tasted better if we had them from the eastern hemisphere such as seasonings and spices. Our food tasted better than expected and we placed 2nd overall. I wish I could have added more seasoning to the meat patties to give it more flavor.
  5. My favorite meal to eat is Spaghetti. In order for spaghetti to make you need ground beef which comes from the western hemisphere, and tomato sauce which comes from the western hemisphere as well. Also, you need pasta for spaghetti and that is made from flour (eastern hemisphere) and you need garlic for the spaghetti which comes from the old world. With this explanation, I can infer that both hemispheres are needed to create a full meal with correct flavors, taste and enjoyment.

ropose? What was it supposed to rectify? The Keynesian Theory believes that there is more demand than supply. Keynesian economists are rectifying that omission by integrating the real and financial sectors of the economy. The Theory also proposed that that governments should increase spending, even if it means going into debt.

Mexican Revolution Notes:

    • What caused the Mexican Revolution? The economic policies of Porfirio Diaz, unequal distribution of land, deeply entrenched economic inequality, and undemocratic institutions were the major causes of the revolution.
    • What’s the difference between a social revolution and political revolution, according to the author? Social revolutions change property rights and who controls a nation's wealth, while political revolutions change the political system but leave economic systems in place.
    • Who was Porfirio Diaz and why did some think of him as a dictator? Porfirio Díaz was known for his decades long presidency and strong centralized state in Mexico. His elitist and oligarchical policies favoured foreign investors and wealthy landowners, culminating in an economic crisis for the country.
    • Why did Madero’s presidency fail? His policies were too radical for conservatives and too moderate for social revolutionaries. For example, he was too slow to follow through on land reform, and he maintained some elements of Diaz's rule.
    • What role did the United States play in the Mexican Revolution? The U.S began to influence mexicans as mexican influence began to decline
    • Who were the two sides of the revolution after 1913 and what each side want? The Conventionistas including Pancho Villa and Zapata sought big economic and social reforms. The Constitutionalists led by Venustiano Carranza and Alvaro Obregon and he wanted to establish a liberal democracy
