High School Graduation Requirements

Earning a Diploma in NYC In New York City public schools, students can earn three types of diplomas: a local diploma, a Regents diploma, or an advanced Regents diploma. All of these diplomas are valid high school diplomas and can be used to demonstrate graduation or enroll in programs after high school, like college and the military. To earn a diploma, students must earn specific course credits and pass specific Regents exams (see following slides).

Exam Requirements For High School Graduation

8 of 18

The Importance of Doing More than the Bare Minimum

44 credits and 5 regents are the BARE MINIMUM needed to graduate. That should never be the STANDARD.

The mindset needs to be not only ”to pass”, but ”to master”. To get the highest grades possible. Both in class and on Regents.

5 passed regents are the minimum. The minimum may guarantee a diploma, but not acceptance in to choice colleges. The focus needs to be the more regents taken and passed-show more exposure and stamina to learn topics and excel in them-making for a more attractive and wanted student for Colleges.

CHARACTER EDUCATION

At Cobble Hill we understand the importance of integrating values and desired life skills into the life of a school. Character is the decisive ingredient of success. This means we can teach core values and desired character traits to students, and in doing so, we can nurture the qualities that enhance their moral growth and development. We prepare young people to grow up and become caring, respectful, responsible, and decent human beings. As a school , we are deliberate and passionate about teaching, modeling and setting high moral expectations for our students. Each month we engage students in a deep dive into the character count values. What do they mean? How can we live up to those values? What is important to us and how does upholding such values helps us and our communities.
