PROBLEM STATEMENT: Air Pollution from Vehicles and their Negative Effects:
Passenger vehicles are a major pollution contributor, producing significant amounts of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and other pollution. In 2013, transportation contributed more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons emitted into our air.
A typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. This assumes the average gasoline vehicle on the road today has a fuel economy of about 22.0 miles per gallon and drives around 11,500 miles per year. T. Every gallon of gasoline burned creates about 8.887 kg of CO2. The health risks of air pollution are extremely serious. Poor air quality increases respiratory ailments like asthma and bronchitis, heightens the risk of life-threatening conditions like cancer, and burdens our health care system with substantial medical costs. Particulate matter is single handedly responsible for up to 30,000 premature deaths each year.
Objectives
MAKE A SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE WAY TO REDUCE CAR EMISSIONS WITHOUT ANY MAJOR CHANGES
OUR COMPETITORS
Our only real competitor is electric cars. The public doesn’t realise that it will take several decades to even be implemented in developing or undeveloped countries. Apart from this electricity charging stations will also need to be created.
COMPARISON BETWEEN EcoPump AND ELECTRIC CARS
EcoPump | Electric cars |
No electricity required | Most electricity used to power electric vehicles is generated from non-renewable energy sources, which can have a negative impact on both our health and the environment. |
Doesn’t have any batteries preventing toxic fumes. | While electric cars don't emit exhaust fumes, they do use batteries which can emit toxic fumes. |
People already own fuel based cars and they can buy this filter for a meagre amount. | They are very expensive and many people may not want to make this payment. |
Structure
This EcoPump is a pipe which can be put over the exhaust pump. It has an Air Inlet through which the air emission enters. Then there are 4 sensors present there; the Carbon Monoxide sensor, Carbon Dioxide sensor, Nitrous Oxide sensor and Sulphur Oxide sensor, which detects the level of each of these chemicals in the exhaust. After the sensing the air goes through a metal oxide-laser induced graphene which is dipped in Rubidium. Here oxygen and hydrogen are converted to water and electricity and nitrous oxide is make less toxic. After this there is a metal organic framework which converts Carbon monoxide to Carbon Dioxide. After this the pure air exits the EcoPump through the Air Outlet.
Why should the consumer buy our product (Advantages)?
Our product will be a great addition to all cars that run on gasoline to sense harmful gases like carbon monoxide, reduce emissions of these gases and purify the carbon dioxide in vehicles that is converted by a normal catalytic converter in modern cars. Using our method of purifying air in cars is far more superior than the method of using electric cars, as electric cars too cause a lot of environmental harm by the lead in the batteries built in to run these electric cars.
How will the consumer buy our product?
Our vision is that our product will be bought a as a recommended, additional feature to cars. We aim to partner with large car companies. We will provide them a supply of our product to sell to their customer and take a royalty check on the amounts of them sold every month. The consumer will buy this product as it will be beneficial in solving a large problem, the air pollution caused by vehicles.
Conclusion
There is no reason to not buy our product. It solves a problem, keeps you safe and doesn’t make cars feel guilty 😂.
We hope you found our idea intriguing and believe it would be helpful to this problem.
