PROPOSAL FOR A NEW SCHEDULE FOR CCHS
Creator: Matt Leman
Committee: Cindy Gerber, Stephanie Vucsko, Emily Kinzler, Tyler Castle, Traci Fritz, Mary Kay Sthay, Dave Sinkular, & Ben Baer
Mission Statement: “Prepare students today for tomorrow’s challenges” The mission is to help students learn independence and find avenues to accomplish their goals while supporting them in these pursuits. |
Vision: What does our new “world” look like? Each student has the tools they need to be successful as they define it. Time is not wasted controlling and pointlessly supervising children. Instead our time is utilized to create teachable moments about what's important to individual students in order for them to achieve their personal goals. |
Goals: What specifically do we want to accomplish with this schedule?
|
CCT
Ineffective
Wasted Time
Teachers and students hate it
Split the Time:
Rotating Time block
&
Mentor Block
Problem
Solution
Make-up work
Quizzes, tests, homework
Rotating block:
Students have another time with their specific classroom teachers 1x every week
CCT at the end of the day:
Students are mentally spent
Reduce classes to 60 minutes
Create 3 time blocks
Academic at beginning of the day, Mentor in the middle; Academic at the end
Problem
Solution
CCT:
Focus on students that are behind
Everyone has wasted time
Focus on students at their level
Differentiate and organize for optimal productivity
Seniors
When do they stay?
Oh yeah, they don’t
Special Events occur on a planned C schedule
Problem
Solution
Not adequate time to build “relationships with the kids”
Mentor block builds in a specific time to “build relationships” with the same kids, possibly over 4 years
Missed Days on the current A/B Schedule
C Day Solution: Flexibility to make up missed A or B days with the C day schedule
Problem
Solution
Desire for increased and more frequent “instruction time” with our students in our classes
Current schedule: Roughly 43 days of contact (5 days every 2 weeks) for 3440 minutes per semester
Proposed Schedule:
72 Contact days (4 days per week) for 200 minutes/week with course teacher
Data time &
Intervention Prep time
We have none!
1x a week
Rotating Block
Allocate “Data Analysis” Time
Intervention Prep Time
Problem
Solution
Students don’t feel like teachers care about them
Mentor block
Same kids every for 4 years
Teachers have designated time to teach “life skills” & build relationships
