Accreditation puts the Credit in Your Classes

For GTC’s courses to receive transferable credit, they must meet accreditation standards set forth by SACSCOC.

Dual Enrollment faculty help us meet these standards in two essential ways:

  1. Teaching courses that follow the same curriculum, standards, etc. as courses taught on our campuses
  2. Following the same policies and procedures as any other college faculty member and ensuring dual students are abiding by the same policies and expectations as any other GTC student.

Attendance Tracking

  • Attendance must be taken for each face-to-face class meeting.
  • To be considered "present" in a face-to-face meeting, a student must be physically present for at least half the class.
  • When the school district is out and GTC has class, professors should provide a virtual assignment and take attendance through completion of the assignment.

Reinstatements

If a student misses 14 consecutive days (counting weekends & holidays, so 4 consecutive classes), they are administratively withdrawn

Instructors choose whether to reinstate. Eligibility: good standing (passing or close) and no previous reinstatements in the class.

Submit Dynamic Form to your department head for approval

You’ll get an email notification that it was approved and is being processed and a reminder to update attendance to “90 minutes absent.”

The student will regain access to course within a day or two.

FERPA

  • Students, regardless of the location of their class, are college students; FERPA, therefore, applies to their educational records in regard to the class in which you teach them.
  • This means that you may communicate with the student, but the student must explicitly express their consent for parents or guardians to access their information by signing an information disclosure. All dual enrollment students must sign the disclosure form.
  • This also applies to your communication, which should take place via Blackboard or GTC Gmail with students and via Outlook with employees.

Student Disabilities Resource Center (formerly SDS)

All GTC students, including dual enrollment students who may already have IEPs or 504 accommodations through their high school, are required to go through the college’s SDRC office accommodation process, regardless of the location.

Process:

  • Paperwork is provided to SDRC office (SDRC can go to school to complete intake process)
  • Accommodations form is sent to instructor
  • Instructor may provide only accommodations listed on that form
  • Process should be handled in the first two weeks of the course
  • This must be renewed every semester–it does not roll over
