Introduction

  • Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) introduce a new wireless paradigm by enabling programmable control of the EM wave propagation.

  • My research focus is to develop RIS harnessing magnetism. For this purpose, I chose Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) as magnetic material and phase shifts are obtained by tuning the material properties by applying magnetic bias.

  • My current workflow is calculating required phase shift to beamform along a direction and creating a codebook and validate by creating antenna array simulations and finally manually designing the array.

  • Problems:
    • Results from antenna array simulation and manually created array simulation do not match.
    • Is the method explained in this presentation correct?

  • First I create one unit cell with variable patch dimensions, and assign floquet port and apply de-embedding to place the port at unit cell face.

  • I sweep the patch dimensions and get the S11 magnitude and phase. I take Phases of all dimension combinations at 10 GHz frequency and make a phase vs dimension lookup table.

  • Then, I take Codebook and find the unit cell dimensions required for the phase delays in the codebook to beamform at (θ,Φ) = (30o, 0o).
  • Then create the array manually. Add feed antenna and radiation boundary and complete simulation.
