A pick-a-path story is a story where the reader ultimately controls the direction of the adventure by making choices through the story.

This is our teacher Mrs Jones’ pick a path so you can get some ideas.

4 of 14

  1. Create the characters and the setting for your book.
  2. Have a clear idea of the story you want to tell, with five different endings.
  3. Write your primary story from beginning to end. (This is Book 1)
  4. Write your story again using only Chapter One from your first book. Continue from Chapter Two onward writing a different middle and ending. (This is Book 2)
  5. Repeat step 4 three more times. (Book 3, 4, and 5)

Recap:

  • All should have the same first chapter.
  • Book 2, 3, 4, and 5 should have different middles and endings.

There are five basic kinds of templates for endings:

a) The main character is captured.

b) The main character is killed.

c) The main character acquires treasure.

d) The main character finds love.

e) The main character fails in his/her quest.

It is a little bit like an upside down tree, starting from the top and branching down.

Spreadsheets can be a little tricky to use so you will need to ask your Teacher for help if you get stuck.

This is a template you can use.

Please make a copy.

Type all your text onto the slideshow first.

The trickiest part is linking the slides to connect when the reader makes their choice when they read it.

9 of 14

Put your 2 choices for your reader.

Then you link the text to the slide on your slide- show that carries on that path of your story.

The link for this is now going to be put into the chat.

If you want to go back over it at school - This slideshow takes you through each step.

When it is finished you can embed your slideshow on your blog.

On the next slide are some of our Pick a Path stories from last term.
