BEAUTIFICATION UNIT

  • In order to eliminate areas of ambiguous responsibility and duplicative efforts, three business units now work comprehensively to centralize and deliver a beautification strategy with single coordination

​

  • The mission of this unit is to improve the aesthetics of DeKalb County through enhancing the maintenance of rights-of-way, and the removal of public nuisances through education of the public, empowerment of the community and enforcement of adopted codes and ordinances

​

  • With a refined focus on beautification, and effective enforcement application, the appearance and general aesthetics of the streets, business corridors, and residential communities throughout the County will change

BEAUTIFICATION UNIT

  • The Beautification Unit is proposed in FY17 to combine the functions of:
    • Code Compliance (Including Foreclosure Registry-administration)
    • Keep DeKalb Beautiful
    • Mowing & Herbicide

​

  • Code Compliance is proposed to be moved from the Planning & Sustainability (Unincorporated Fund) to Beautification (Unincorporated Fund)

​

  • Positions previously funded in Planning & Sustainability (Foreclosure Registry) are also proposed to be moved to Beautification (Unincorporated Fund)

​

  • Keep DeKalb Beautiful and Mowing & Herbicide are proposed to be moved from Sanitation (Sanitation Fund) to Beautification (Unincorporated Fund)

MAJOR UNDERTAKINGS 2017

​

  • Implement a major initiative and action plan to eliminate blight throughout the County

​

  • Improve the overall appearance of properties, streets, corridors, gateways and rights of way

​

  • Implement International Property Maintenance Code standards

​

  • Increase community outreach and coordination efforts as it relates to code enforcement, litter and blight

​

  • Deliver the most efficient and effective service using industry best practices

​

ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2016

​

  • Received the 2016 Innovative Programs Award from the American Association of Code Enforcement

​

  • Enhanced on-the-field coverage, and expanded service delivery times to include earlier start and later end times, Saturday coverage, as well as evening and off-hour coverage

​

  • Managed the 4th Annual “Sick of Signs” event which removed 1.36 tons of illegal signs from the rights of way of the County

​

  • Organized the county’s 1st illegal dump sweep designed to remove illegally dumped trash, debris & tires throughout the County
