iMD stands for MD Motion Detection. It requires Motion Detection (MD) to be enabled on the device (HDVR or IP camera) first. On a Coax unit (HDVR), both MD & iMD events are processed by the HDVR. On an IP unit (NVR), the IP cameras typically process the events. Elite series NVRs (models that start with NVR-EL) are capable of processing iMD events, meaning you can get iMD functions with non-iMD or third-party cameras.
iMD applies an Object Filter to ignore MD events that are not caused by Humans or Motor Vehicles. You have the option to choose either Human or Motor Vehicles, or both. There are currently no other options for the object filter.
The Object Filter will recognize up to 50 objects in the scene. If there are more than 50, iMD will not work correctly. Also, each object must be 80×80 pixels in size, or the events will not trigger correctly. This applies to both iMD & IVS activity when using the Object Filter.

MD Schedule Setup 1
Main Menu > Advanced Settings > Storage > Schedule > Record
For iMD to work correctly, you need to ensure the HDVR/NVR Record Schedule is set to recognize & tag Motion Detection (MD) activity.
Click on any of the Setting buttons to the right of the schedule.
Check the All box to ensure MD is enabled 7 days a week.
Check the box next to Motion to enable the NVR to recognize & color-code MD activity.
It is recommended to leave the General option checked to ensure the NVR is always recording. This allows the NVR to switch between General & MD indexing.
You may use the different Period settings to enable MD indexing only during certain hours of the day.
Once your desired options are selected, click the OK button to save.

MD Schedule Setup 2
Main Menu > Advanced Settings > Storage > Schedule > Record
Once you have set the schedule correctly, you will see green (General) and yellow (MD) stripes across the timeline for every day of the week, as shown in the image on the left. Once the schedule is set as desired, click the OK button in the lower-right corner to save the settings.
MD Event Setup
Main Menu > Advanced Settings > Alert Center > Video Detection > Motion Detection
Select the Channel from the drop-down menu.
The Enable box must be checked.
The Post-Record setting will keep the NVR recording with the MD flag for the specified period after MD activity stops. The minimum is 10 seconds, and you may extend it to a maximum of 5 minutes (300 seconds).
The Record Channel option should be checked, and the channel selected should match the one showing in the drop-down menu on the top left of the menu. You may tag any or all camera recordings with MD from just 1 camera’s activity.
Select Picture Storage if you wish to store .jpg snapshots to the recorder HDD.
Enabling Tour is used to trigger the Motion tour on a local monitor.
Checking Alarm Tone will play an .mp3 file specified in the drop-down menu when MD activity occurs. You must upload .mp3 files to the NVR, and have a powered speaker connected to it, for this to work.
Once all the settings are correct, click the OK button in the lower-right corner to save them.

MD Region Setup
Main Menu > Advanced Settings > Alert Center > Video Detection > Motion Detection > Region Setting
Adjust the Region Setting area to specify where you want the camera to recognize MD activity, and where to ignore it. The camera will ignore MD activity in the areas NOT covered by the colored grid. By default, only the Red region is activated.
You may use the other colors to create regions with different Sensitivity and Threshold values.
Sensitivity is a measure of deviation from a grayscale baseline. The higher the number, the more responsive the camera will be when color changes occur.
Threshold is the percentage of pixels in the entire image that must be changing for activity to trigger MD indexing. The lower the number, more MD events will be triggered.
The graph below Threshold shows potential MD activity in real time. The Threshold is represented by the light gray line near the bottom of the graph.
Click the OK button to save the region settings. They will not be pushed to the camera until you click the OK button on the Motion Detection menu screen.

MD Schedule Setup

The Schedule allows you to set the NVR to only recognize MD activity during the hours you specify. By default, it is set to 24/7 MD recognition.
If you make any changes in this menu, click the OK button to save them. Changes will not be fully saved until clicking the OK button in the lower-right corner of the Motion detection screen.
MD Alarm-out Port Setup
Main Menu > Advanced Settings > Alert Center > Video Detection > Motion Detection > Alarm-out Port Setting
Use this menu if you would like to trigger an external device, e.g., a light or siren. The Alarm Out ports on the recorder are dry contacts; a relay or a timer may be needed to trigger the external device.
The Local Alarm box must be checked, and you need a relay connected to the appropriate Alarm-out Port on the rear of the NVR for this to work correctly.
The Post-Alarm option allows you to specify how long the Alarm Out port will keep the contact open after the MD activity stops. It may be set anywhere from 0 to 300 seconds (5 minutes).
If you modify any settings on this menu, click the OK button to save them. Settings will not be fully saved to the recorder until you click the OK button in the lower-right corner of the Motion Detection screen.

MD PTZ Linkage Setup
Main Menu > Advanced Settings > Alert Center > Video Detection > Motion Detection > PTZ Linkage Setting
PTZ Linkage is used to trigger PTZ behavior (differs depending on NVR model) such as Presets and Tours, when MD activity is triggered on a fixed camera.
Check the Enable box, then select an action from the drop-down menu for the channel where your PTZ has been added. Enter the number of the action in the box to the right of the drop-down menu.
Note: the action must already be programmed in the PTZ for this to work correctly. The PTZ camera will perform the action every time the camera indicates there is an MD event.
Click the OK button to save any changes. PTZ Linkage settings will not be saved to the recorder until clicking the OK button in the lower-right corner of the Motion Detection screen.

MD More Menu Setup
Main Menu > Advanced Settings > Alert Center > Video Detection > Motion Detection > More
Anti-Dither is a cooling-off period for MD events; it may be set anywhere from 0 to 600 seconds (10 minutes). After MD activity is triggered, if it pauses for less than the specified time before starting again, the camera will treat it as the same event. If the activity pauses more than the specified time, the camera will treat it as a new event.
Checking Show Message will show a message on the attached monitor when the camera is indexing MD activity.
Report Alarm is not a supported feature on our equipment.
Send Email will trigger an email alert for every MD event. It will generate 2 messages per event, one when the event is triggered initially, and the 2nd when the event ends.
Buzzer will trigger the motherboard beep while the MD activity is occurring.
Checking the Log option is recommended. It allows you to monitor MD activity in the Alarm Monitor menu for troubleshooting.
Save changes with the OK button. Changes will not be fully saved to the recorder until you click the OK button in the lower-right corner of the Motion Detection menu.

iMD Event Setup
Main Menu > Advanced Settings > Alert Center > iMD
Select the channel number of the camera from the drop-down menu at the top. If the camera on that channel does not support iMD, you will see a The config is not supported message
The Enable box must be checked for iMD events to be indexed correctly.
Sensitivity options are Low, Medium, and High. Medium is the default setting.
The Effective Target options are Human and/or Motor Vehicle.
All the other settings are the same as found in the regular MD menu screen.
Changes will not be saved to the recorder until you click the OK button in the lower-right corner of the iMD menu.
